Day 8 since testing positive for corona, day 7 of not being able to smell anything. My taste is coming back though so maybe smell will soon follow. I got Dior Homme in the mail a couple days ago and the shithead eBay seller sent me the 2020 even though they had the previous version as the listing picture. So now I have to bother with sending it back. Fuck them, they should just refund me my money and I'll use it as a spray for my cat's litter box. Or maybe it's actually good, but I want the previous version.

Wow. I didn't think Encre Noire smelled anything like Guerlain's Vetiver. Guerlain is fresh, soapy and spicy. The Lalique was woody and musky.

For what it's worth, the Guerlain also has incredible longevity while the Lalique was gone in a couple hours on me.

Encre Noir is great and could be sold by some niche brand for $100+ easily. It's a bit of acquired taste and hence the hate from people who except something easy to wear from a $20 fragrance. It's great though however not the typical foresty scent. More of a damp, swamp forest. What's your budget like. I may recommend some other foresty scents.

Are you the anon who bought it recently? I'm always so glad when people end up loving recs I make. Plenty of similar classic colognes: 4711 (German), Agua de Colonia Concentrada Alvarez Goméz (Spanish) etc. If you rather are looking for something that would last longer then try Eau de Guerlain from the same Guerlain's cologne line. It should last about 4+ hours. Another option are Note di Colonias from Acqua di Parma. They're on the pricier side of things but Note di Colonia I is gorgeous - it's an Eaux de Cologne with classic powdery Italian twist. Also the bottles are designed and created by Lalique. Absolute class.

Another pricier option is Guerlain Le Frenchy. It's Eau de Parfum of natural extraits from citruses, petitgrain (that I adore), neroli and more aromatic-herbal ingredients like verbena, sage and lavender that behaves like Eaux de Cologne. This one and Creed Pure White Cologne are the best smelling Colognes I've smelled. Literally transport you behind the wheel of some classic convertible driving winding roads of Côte d'Azur with a model sitting on the other sit.

Still sniffing Un Bois Vanille from this morning. It’s died down a lot and it’s so good in the drydown. The opening is sweet, but a kind of pleasant sweetness, not a cloying one. What’s a good high quality summer frag similar to L‘eau D‘Issey?
I hate every Aqua di Gio because of this disgusting sea note (calone?). They all smell the same after an hour or so.
I like Eau Sauvage but it’s a bit too mature. I like Beau de Jour as well but it’s too mossy and woody. I love Layton but it’s definitely not for warm weather. My winter frag is Oud Wood.
I don’t really like Versace pour Homme but I love Prada L‘Homme.
L‘eau D‘Issey has it all: it’s citrusy fresh, has a perfect amount of wood/moss sort of masculinity and a good sea note, unlike the Gio shit.
But it’s just too classic and doesn’t have that special factor like Layton for example.

I seem to only fall in love with winter frags (TV, TO, Memoirs Of A Trespasser, B*) as they can mix woodsyish and sweet notes. I would love recs for spring/summer. I am 28, white, in shape and have a buzzcut (not a nazi or tankie). I wear mostly black, occasionally a surplus jacket. I want something I'll enjoy first and foremost, something that'll fit my look second. Gypsy Water is the closest I've gotten, but it's dominated by something like candied lemon rinds. YSL L'homme has treated me nice, but the GF doesn't like it and it's not a 100 % personality fit. My father donated his Boss Bottled, which is nice but too youthful for me, and he wears ADG daily to good effect.

Thanks for the suggestions anon. Regarding fragrances like Avignon that are dominated by frankincense and myrrh, I realize that lots of people strongly associate these scents with catholic church. I’ve basically spent no time in catholic churches in my life except on a field trip as a kid and a couple times as an adult to admire the mosaics and stained glass. So to me frank and myrrh just smell nice and there’s no deep-seated associations there.
