i'd say if you go raw get a one wash (not pure raws but it holds the dye better if you get it with a one wash).
there's also a punk vibe to getting blue everywhere. Looks good on converse, kinda a wabi sabi vibe

I don't wear them often currently because they need repairs. The denim was either bog standard Cone Mills stuff or the special denim they made for ROY, but it wasn't as dynamic in fading as other fabric I've seen. The stitch work was excellent, better than most raw denim brands, and I liked the rounded back pocket stitch (and a few other details). Over all, I think they're great. I wish I could score another pair.

raw is overrated, just get selvedge that has a wash. it takes forever to fade, you have to not wash them much at all, etc. you have to be really into it for it to make sense

Most unsanforized denim fades fairly quickly, and washing hardly matters. Sure, maybe more frequent washing will mess a bit with the contrast, but high contrast fades are the exact meme everyone hates raw denim for.

I have some levis 511 that I’ve owned for some time now, they have completely washed out to an even tone of soft blue, the problem is that one time I sliced my hand open, bled a bit over them and I never managed to get the stain out fully. I have around 30 pairs of selvedge denim. Budget brands like Unbranded and Brave Star all the way up to Iron Heart and Momotaro. In all honesty one of my favourites have been a pair of fake RRL I got from taobao for about £30 out of curiosity because they looked good in the pics. Fit is perfect, faded well and they’re comfy as hell. I hate myself for it.

Cuffing needs to die aswell. IMO it immediatly gives the so y vibe that people trying to emulate workwear look like.

Like if your wearing sneakers sure but when your wearing boots you look extremely childish with a cuff. Stacked or just regular length look so much better. And you also dont have to fork out more for the selvedge and can just buy cheap levi stf.

This guys is dressed in the regulat so y outfit but look how much manlier/cooler he looks without the cuff.

501 STFs should still have a high-ish rise and some taper. If you're looking for something fancier, then scope the usual raw denim shops for something with a high rise and a tapered leg. If you want something in a lighter wash, try Orslow's 107 in a "2 year wash." The rise does look a bit more medium though.
