AP is completely dead, pumping out royal oak after royal oak with only a few other ugly designs
VC is going decidedly down-market with steel shitters and "value" watches and was absolutely cucked by Saudis in its recent history
PP is staying the course and just killed off its meme/rapper watch

There is no winning when it comes to Archimede Outdoor, unless you dont give a shit about antimagnetism or diameter. At which point you still have the 39, for a watch to rival 556 (neither of them having memetech), the 41 titanium or the chrono.

You have to be really deep into the archives in the first place to even know what you are looking for.
There are a zillion of styles over the years, several different manufacturing plants, going through different styles.
Keep in mind, though, I am no wizard of ancient slavic horology, so my voice might count for nothing as I dont know shit.

But if you would allow for a few comments on your pic rel, I would argue that:
>polished case
a case from that era, whichever it may be, would be pretty dinged up
so either somebody buffed out the old rickety case or bought a new polished one from chyna
>the hands
quite the peculiar set of hands to be on what seems to be a military style of watch, much too elegant
>the dial
Im not aware, Im sure they did to some extent, but dont know how much the soviets used the minute marker pattern on their watches, most of what Ive seen is hour indices, they often left the seconds dial bare
>the crown
seems much too thick for whichever time period this piece is supposed to be coming from, the crowns before the turn of the century were all slim disks
>the movemet
what are we looking at here? can you tell the difference between a combloc made movement and a cheap repro or entirely non-fitting movement? Ive seen jewtube restoration vids of classic omegas with miyota quartz movements running a meme scam. do you know what to look for?
even if supposedly mint soviet example, a bit of green oxidization on the edges of the case could be a good indicator of the genuinity

As I would like to repeat, I am no expert, I may or may not be under the influence at this time, but something smells fishy, and if it does, in the watch world it either means you dont know shit, or you are dealing with a cat in a bag.

Keep digging, the journey is the fun.

Breguet has been a comedy of errors for the last decade or so. The modern marine is horrific, the Type XXII is a 44mm mall watch and laughably overpriced. Omega, because even though they make decent watches today, the Omega that exists today has effectively nothing whatsoever to do with the Omega that existed before the quartz revolution and yet plenty of people still buy in to this Omega's "heritage" in a way that no one actually does anymore for brands like Longines, Tissot or Hamilton.

>Underrated
Seiko. One of the few large scale watchmakers to retain true historical continuity with its pre-quartz revolution form and design language. Hell, it's watchmaking operations still remain fundamentally organized around Daini and Suwa Seikosha as it was in the 1950s and 1960s.

Girard Perregaux is another one, mostly seen as a haute horlogerie also ran today but they were one of the finest mass production watchmakers in the world before the quartz revolution.

>> No.15966046

>There are few, if any, good watches between $1,000 and $3,000
I’ve said it before and hope I never have need to say it again: the vast majority of watches that fall in this price range are pure, unadulterated rubbish. Even the best of the lot put a polish on a $100 machine-made stock movement and drop it into a Chinese-made case and then, since the back was tightened by a Swiss housewife earning some part-time money, they put “Swiss Made” on the dial and mark it up 400%. If you just want something to tell time and match your last season’s Kenneth Cole shoes, go right ahead. But don’t have any illusion that you’re getting a fine watch.
> And finally, I will repeat what I have written in the past: There is no watch between $1,000 and $3,000 that is worth buying. Not one. In fact, it is a stretch to find more than a worthy handful under $7,000. I’m not sure why this comes as any surprise to readers, who continue to cry foul and sing the praises of inferior watches. My commitment to fine timepieces is well known, yet you continue to submit questions about $1,000 watches. As I said above, there are other websites you can visit and bloggers to read that will happily tell you what a fine watch you can get for a week’s pay. So don’t come here looking for the same drivel. You don’t see men’s fashion sites or magazines advising their readers to buy their suits from off-the-rack warehouses (or “wearhouses,” as the case may be). So if you seek advice about haute horlogerie, I am at your service. But for those who persist to beat the same drum of mediocrity, prepare to be ignored.

Also why can't the put lume into some of their sport models? It doesn't make any sense. They are sport models, with steel cases and bands, not dress watches! Where is the LUME!?

For these reasons alone, GS will always be a cope brand.

There are tons and tons of quartz Seikos from the 1970s that have never been serviced and still work fine, and they don't have sealed mechanisms or super long life lubricants. Today only Sinn and Damasko make mechanical chronographs that have that feature, and historically there was only one mechanical chronograph movement made in any quantities that had it. It was discontinued.
