I have a couple buddies who are WW1/WW2 militaria autists, so I've done a shitload of camping with ever flavor of old ass military shelter.
Wait until the temperature will stay above 45F through the entire night.
They're a bitch to setup in such a way that they're truly wind/rain proof. Do a number of trips with perfect weather before you attempt a day rain predicted. Especially if it's predicted at night.
Set them up on the flattest possible ground and experiment with ways to elevate yourself and your kit incase water runs under the tent.
Bring an assload of cordage.
First few trips you should pack gear with the expectation that you will not be able to properly setup the shelter.
Each party members must have a rifle and cigarettes.
A chunk of cheese, crusty bread loaf, and a length of unsliced sausage should be each party members main source of nutrition.
Liquor should be the only alcohol consumed.

Well the older stuff was more in tune persay, yeah there was *some* nylon/early rubberised shit that was atrocious for the environment, and lots of other shit too (in regards to the WW1 soldier, duh). but compared to modern gear most of the stuff is way more friendly, wool/cotton/leather all break down unless taken care of, unlike modern stuff that just keeps on keeping on. even the reclaimed stuff (although a way better choice than "new") gives off the microplastics meme. But desu it really comes down to the user, wool/leather is probably less environmentally friendly if you lose/rip/destroy the things thats made out of them constantly (thereby wasting more of the resource) than some dude with a synthetic jacket or tent that lasts them years.

I have a question if anyone could help with, i really like neofolk but i tend to like mixing old/vintage with newer or more futuristic looks. Is there a way to look neofolk but more futuristic? The people often associated with neofolk were modernists in their time if you look at it in the pagan/fascist way, so how would a nu-folk look if it was popular today?

Maybe check out solarpunk? Not nearly as militaristic, but it is futuristic while sharing some ideas with neofolk.

It's great to shop responsible and since you're buying milspo you're buying second hand, which is great anyways, no matter if it's leather or plastic. I just don't buy the whole in tune with nature routine. When I went hiking superlight I was in nature all day and by the evening I set up my tent, got inside and slept like a stone. I'm not tormented by neon visions nor plastic noise. My tent is green so I am not bothered by cops. My equipment is leather and wool and plastic according to what's most practical. I have done the whole larp camping and while it makes you feel in tune with some things, such as history, it doesn't add anything to the nature experience and it's just a detrimental chore in many regards. Like skiing or mountaineering in old equipment. A fun exercise but you're not more in tune with the mountain when your gear sucks just like you're not more in tune with the lake if you swim in a 1910s knit swim suit.
