Redpill me on IR /fa/, are they just the metrosexual man's choice to walk around the office, or are they actually good general purpose boots for men who go outside?

I recommend crepe sole Red Wing boots that pair well with cuffed raw Japanese denim. Pendleton flannels or a starched white t shirt pairs well with the jeans. Put everything together with a full grain leather belt with a patinated belt buckle. If you don’t have a coat already, I would go for a Carhartt duck canvas chore coat.

Very few GYW boots that aren't explicitly built for hiking are actually good for going outside- for a definition of outside that actually involves soft ground. They're fine city or town boots, work aight in rocky areas, but they're fundamentally a heritage aesthetic that compromises on both tread & flexibility.

Bertl arbeitsstiefel are so robust they're impractical (some say...) Other options... trabert (high price, solid but fancier), steinkogler (comparably cheap, mostly black stuff, including austrian memes). Schwangau and Hanwag make some more fancy boots too. I'm sure there are plenty of manufacturers like that in other countries, but I just don't know them.

>>15943620
Have some. Hard to don one of them because I have high bridges. Even worse, the lining has a little unsecured fabric so if I just jam my foot in, it folds over to the front and bites into my bridge. I'm sure they'd fix that if I sent it back to england, but it's not worth it. Gotta sell them one of these days.

Sorry to hear that. Not really pleasing stuff to read. I'm really worried about fit of their boots (78TC), but at the same time I hope they will be fine. I ordered them without lining, so one less problem...
As you say, sending them back now (for resoling, refitting, etc.) is not worth it. Plus extra paperwork due to Brexit. Wonderful.

Also thanks for naming more manufacturers. Wish I had known about then sooner. Here in Czech Republic, I have not seen a single manufacturer who would make such style of boot. Of course, some bootmaker would make them, but price would jump too high for me (€400+ which is over my budget.)

I wear a pair of Iron Rangers as general purpose boots. For work (teacher), light yard work, outdoorsy stuff and walks (3-8km). They are by far the best quality boots I own. I got the moctoe's for winter (snow and ice). They suffice, but in hindsight I let myself get hyped too much. The thing that gets me is that I'm trying to be economical, which is why I want good boots, as they'll last me a long time but I can't for the life of me decide to pull the plug. Like it's a lot of money on one pair of shoes, no matter which pair.

But on the other hand I do actually need a pair of boots or shoes since nothing I have is suitable or even healthy on my foot.
