15932246 No.15932246 [Reply] [Original]

Getting married this year, bros.
Fiancée asked me to pick out a wedding band I would like. I had never given this any thought before so I'm stumped.
What are some effay wedding bands for men? What color, thickness, material, etc. should I be looking into?

This, except avoid white gold since it's for pussies. ESPECIALLY avoid any kind of retarded bold dark band, they're meme rings and the only statement they make is "my marriage is going to fail". A plain gold band is all you need.

24K Gold. Even if the Jeweler tells you it's soft buy it, they say to you it's soft because they don't want you to buy it and would prefer you to by the 18k ring because they make more of a profit that way. 24K Ring is Pure Gold Pure Love.

>> No.15932445

24k being too soft for rings isn't a meme.
My wedding band is 14k and it's a scratched mess after 2 years of marriage. 24k is way too soft for a ring you will wear every day.

14k yellow gold. 18k if you're richer and don't mind the scratches.
Yellow gold is classic and will never go out of style. White gold is boring because it can be mistaken for silver which is tacky and cheap or tungsten which is very tacky and cheap

>> No.15932489

i like thinner rounded gold ones. keep it simple and classic imo.
a lower k gold like 14k might be prefferable since they get scratched. my dads is 18k and is pretty wrecked after 40 odd yrs.

Just from an aesthetics kind of view I’d go with 750 white gold

I have a friend working in jewelry manufacturing and he told me that platinum may be nice to and looks the same but needs to be cleaned more often cause of oxidation

Also gold rings are kinda tacky for white/blonde people
Does not really match as well as white gold and platinum/palladium

Yellow gold has and always will be the standard for men's wedding bands and has for decades, centuries.
White gold was a trend in the 80s when a bunch of boomers got them and they've been popular since, but it's always been yellow gold for anything classic, elegant and not trendy.
Black bands are a meme and are popular among poor millennials who can't afford gold and reddit beard and bootfag types. You see them a lot on poor types like military members and construction workers.
If you want a band that will never look dated and will be something you'll enjoy wearing at 30 as well as 80 then it's gold. Imagine wearing a black band at 45+ and thinking you don't look like a child

You realise the price of platinum is currently 40% lower than gold, right? White gold is never purely white and requires replating if you want it to remain silver-coloured. An identical ring blank in platinum currently costs only 7% more in platinum than 18c white gold and its a wedding ring you cheap fuck. Platinum is also significantly harder and a much better material for a ring as it will scratch much less over time.

Solid gold is a relatively soft metal. For jewelry it’s mixed with other metals to increase durability but depending on the metals used it can effect the color.
22/24k is the purest you can get in jewelry but it’s easily damaged
10k is so low in gold content that it barely looks like gold anymore and tarnishes easily
The vast majority of gold jewelry will be 14/18k. 18k is the ultimate middle ground in that its mostly gold and doesn’t tarnish but has just enough other metals to make it very durable, 14k is cheaper but also has enough other metals that the shade of yellow becomes more straw-like and less gold
