>Chrysochroa Fulgidissima "Yamato Tamamushi“ - This beetle is native to Japan. It is typically found in woods or forests during summer and can grow between 30–41 millimetres in length.

>The Tamamushi Shrine, an Asuka Period miniature shrine located at Hōryū-ji Temple, Nara prefecture, is the first known object decorated with urushi lacquer and oil painting on wood, gilt bronze plaques, and beetlewing work using the iridescent wings of the Chrysochroa Fulgidissima beetle. Today, "Tamamushi-Nuri" is executed only by a few Urushi masters in Wajima, Japan.

>The dial of the Tamamushi Timepiece is decorated with a mosaic of close to 1000 tiny squares cut from the wings of this beetle. Since this bug has iridescent wings that glow lengthwise with different colors depending upon the light angle, one cannot be sure exactly which color it is. Therefore it gave rise to the expression tamamushi-iro (tamamushi color), in reference to a convoluted statement that can be interpreted in more ways than one.

Nomos and Tudor are the two worth buying from if you’re really on a budget. Their problem is and always will be that if you just hold off and spend a little more you can get something from a big name brand.

A $1500 basic Club is one thing, but once they get into the $3k+ range with Neomatiks, you’re suddenly knocking on the door of Omega.

Hi all, really want some help deciding on my first watch purchases.
I wear a lot of earth tones and neutrals, not too many loud colours.
I wouldn't say my style is "vintage" but I do wear a lot of vintage clothes that I've thrifted or bought online.

I used to have a basic silver Casio which I loved, but I lost it. I like the look of this other Casio with the day, date, and a lovely picture of the Earth which I don't think would be much use but still looks cool.
I also like the look of these Timex piees, which are quite simple and minimalist without looking like a DW or something.

Any advice or suggestions welcome, thanks

I'd probably replace the Casio as a first point; can never hurt to start a watch collection with something you know you love.

Of those three I prefer the Casio. Timex is really pushing its 'vintage' credentials a little too hard and neither of those watches feel very elegant.

You're obviously not fussed about mechanicals so you could consider Victorinox, Seiko, more premium Casio models, Luch, Vostok, Braun?

This watch is prettier and more elegant than any of the "trinity" sports watches, has more history than the Overseas, has a hand-finished movement, is thin, and is aesthetically perfectly balanced. It has a smarter technical design than a Royal Oak. It is also easy to purchase, widely available, and half the price (MSRP, let alone secondary market price) of any of those other watches.

So why does it get almost no respect or recognition even amongst watch enthusiasts?

For an analog model get one of these guys, high accuracy premium quartz movement, good size, slim case, reasonable price for what you get.

Invictas are future classics. First they'll go entirely out of fashion and many mechanical ones will get discarded as getting them repaired won't be economical but a few decades later they will be regarded as the most iconic watches of the first quarter of the 21st century. They'll be highly collectable, especially amongst a new generation of SEA watch collectors, with the most obscene and morbidly oversized limited edition models fetching exorbitant prices. Unironically the best long term investment pieces in the market.

Just got this yesterday as my first Citizen. Love everything about the design, even the crowded world city bezel. Although I'm slightly disappointed with the QC as the dial/movement moves when setting the time (I read that's kinda normal) and the minute-hour hands are misaligned.

Keep the tank and zenith, get a better diver instead of the gs (that's a dog of a gs anyway). Buy the oris 65 and start saving.

Another option buy 3 shitters instead of the 65 and start saving, sekio diver, st19 and some other $400 3 hander. I fell your just wasting time and money but understand you want a few watches.

I'm graduating from university this week and I wanted to get myself a good watch to keep for my life and maybe pass it on to my son in the future yknow. I fucked up a lot of things in life but 180'd and reached my goal and I wanna be proud of that and reward myself with something special. Being a watch guy it's the perfect thing.

I'm broke as a mufucka tho so I can't get the watch I really want. Maybe you can recommend me something?

My budget is 500 - 1000 euro. I really like the look of the patek philipe chronograph or the white dial moonphase watches on a black leather band or old vintage watches on a brown leather band.

I'd say go for the absolute opposite of what you mentioned. I'd be looking for a super simple but well done stainless steel sports watch. Not buying too heavily into any of the meme vintage inspired divers trends, you don't know how well they are going to age.

avoid getting any dogshit budget moon phase or chrono movements get a simple workhorse eta, Sellita , seiko movement. Something anyone can service and they will be parts from after a nuclear apocalypse.

Something dressy/casual that you can wear every day regardless of the environment. That will gain a bit of character after it gets rouged up a little. I'd suggest something like a Sinn 556i which you can dress up or down pretty reasonably

I think going that route will get you and whoever you pass it on to a little more timeless than some faux heritage piece. That being said it's your money do what ever the fuck you want to do

Good advice. Get something stainless with an ETA/Sellitta or NH35. The Sinn 5561 would be a great pick, maybe a hammy if you really not into bracelets that much (though a few of them do come on one) and with a conservative colour.
If you happen to be super set on a chronograph but are willing to give up a more dressy option I'd suggest a Hamilton Khaki Chronograph second hand. Valjoux movement (therefore repairable in perpetuity) and can be picked real cheap if you shop around, one sold on r*ddit for 600usd not to long ago.

Imagine buying into "watches"

>I like everything about it except REEE Seiko
Stop drinking the /wt/ koolaid, Seiko is a storied watchmaker. Their SARX line is not intended to be Luxury grade, but is very solid and arguably nicer than anything else you will find that is similar under $1,000.

It's definitely the same mentality. It's easier for the 4chan posers though as they can pretend via text and don't have to document their glamourous lifestyle in pictures.

It's the strangest progression in a forums mentality. Life removed me from posting here for the best part of a decade; I've only been coming back since WFH due to covid. Every other poster is supposedly the rakish second son of an aristocratic family now. I'm not entirely sure they're all telling the truth.

The hands on the KS are wrong though.

SEIKO is the logo though. GS used to be just another line of models, along with KS, LM, Business-A, Presmatic etc. and the line name/logo was always in the same place, above 6. The new change is more about branding GS as something different from Seiko.

>SEIKO is the logo though.
And the "Grand Seiko" branding shows that.
Saying "seiko" twice on the dial is retarded.

I love how it's always poor third worlders shouting the loudest about "if it isn't a mainstream "luxury" brand it's trash." Most of the people who actually buy luxury watches are the first to appreciate less expensive alternatives.

You mean the first to virtue signal even though they wouldn't be caught dead in it (unless they had a Rolly or two in the safe already).

Cute kitty. I'm really starting to have the Explorer grow on me. I love the simple and legible dial. The only thing I don't like is the bezel. It's just so plain and a scratch magnet.
