I do it for my nipple's sake. They're visible sometimes (Very disrespectful!) and it helps cover them. Some shirts also chaff against them and that's unpleasant.

Literally always yes, the only appropriate time to wear a v-neck is as an undershirt. Prolongs the life of your nicer dress shirts and keeps them clean. Don't wear crew necks as an undershirt.

It does not make sense to wear a wife-beater as an undershirt because your pits can still bleed through.

Always wear some sort of undershirt -- crew, v, or tank-top/beater if you're more athletic.

In winter they can provide warmth, while especially in warmer summer weather they absorb perspiration and odor.

Absorption of sweat for guys is especially important to reduce staining on shirts, sweaters and jackets and prolong life of clothing -- especially better outfits.

Less perspiration on outer clothing layers also means less staining and odour. This in turn means that clothes will require less dry cleaning and laundering, which will also prolong the lifespan of m clothing fabric color and texture.

Under-clothing is basic for upper and lower body. Simple as.
