Damn lads, it's so good. The smooth, creamy vetiver with chestnuts note smells here like walking through Place Pigalle in Paris among all of the stalls with roasted chestnuts. All of that is broken by some fresh dark green note that brightens it and makes this frag more than a simple cozy gourmand. It dries down to a beautiful woody vetiver with some fresh spiciness rounded by a touch of florals.

1. Don't blindbuy bottles. This will be wasted money. When you are starting out there is absolutely no chance you won't change your taste down the road.
2. Buy samples instead. You can use eBay (simply write 'fragrance name' + sample) or websites from the OP post >>15887978 (btw we should add fragrantworld there).
3. A 5ml sample/decant will give you at least 10 wears during which you will understand if you truly like the fragrance and it's worth buying it.
4. If you're an absolute beginner then it'd be good to try first about 10 popular mall-core fragrances from brands like Dior, Chanel, Valentino, Prada, Versace.

To respond to the lad commenting on the similarity of Bianchi’s fragrances, she said that that’s because she just makes what she likes, and that Orris DNA is something she enjoys so much that it appears in most of her fragrances. I feel like she really has an artistic mindset towards perfumery which I respect a lot. She makes what she wants and if people like it, great. If they don’t, she doesn’t care. It’s about her expressing herself and doing what she wants.

They are definitely similar, but I like having that consistency throughout. I guess it’s like having nothing but beef dishes every day for two weeks. You’re always going to get that consistent beef flavour there, but the difference is what you envelop it with. Bouef Bourguignon and Steak au Poivre aren’t the same thing, but they have a similar core flavour.

Posting my thoughts on Tyger Tyger like I said I would. To start off, some niche perfume fans might call it unisex, but it's definitely feminine. Anyone you pass on the street will think you're wearing a woman's perfume. I get very dense honey and orris. The honey is almost sweet and bitter at the same time, like most honey accords in perfume. I smell some leather too. I don't smell much white floral in here. I can smell what is being called peach, but it's not quite there. Similar peach accord to Kiste. I don't like it very much. I prefer most of her other perfumes.

I have Bruno Fazzolari/Fzotic's Vetiverissimo on my other wrist. I like this one a lot. Similar vibe to CDG 2 Man. I smell Vetiver, cedar, and some vague spiciness. The write-up on it is all about it being a calm, meditative scent but it would work great as just a masculine "dumb reach" for fall or spring.

SOTD: Rich Mess from Ryan Richmond. It was a 2019 Indie category winner of The Art and Olfaction Awards created by Christophe Laudamiel. It was also a true pain in the ass to get it in Europe. You Americans are lucky to have so many lovely niche houses that are readily available for you but near impossible to get here. Don't obsess over our European fragrances and just look around. I got a 3ml decant of it and now around 30 minutes after applications I can say that the effort to get it was worth it. It's an absolutely phenomenal leather scent. The bitter-fresh opening that smells to me of a mix of galbanum and citruses blends perfectly with a petrol leather. You just can't forget it after smelling it once. After the opening is gone it settles to a woody leather with some dryness coming from saffron that is contrasted with slight floral-fruity undertones. Beautiful stuff and the best leather fragrance I've discovered over last few years (together with The Black Knight). Can't wait to see what does it dry down to.
>>15888608
I also love it. It's my favorite CdG after CdG 2. You are looking for a coniferous resinous incense fragrance. Have you tried other CdGs from their Incense series? Kyoto is a close cousin of Hinoki. However, you know what to expect performance-wise from them already. Today I got some samples from a new polish brand called 'Wolf Brothers' for tests. Their 'Wolf' has a similar vibe as Hinoki and lasts longer (actually it survived to some extent a shower I took earlier today). However, it clearly trades longevity for projection as it stays almost a skin scent. You can get it from Lulua if you're interested. A less obscure recommendation for 'coniferous resinous incense' atmosphere I am talking about would be DS Durga. I've tried plenty of their frags and they generally are recreating it very well.

The other brand's forte are woody notes that I reckon you must also like. You should try their Bowmakers for its remarkable sharp, almost cutting woody opening and Mississippi Medicine that is a great example of a resinous pine and incense. If you end up liking Mississippi Medicine perhaps circling back to CdG Incense series would be a good idea as it shares powdery qualities with Zagorsk. Finally, their Amber Kiso is an amber fragrance but has some hinoki undertones you might like. I was also recently stunned with fir note in Mendittorosa Archetipo.

Some text messages were posted a couple years back with Jeremy acting like a fuckboy. Harassing a woman for sex, getting shut down, and then threatening and insulting her for not obliging. The texts were posted online and he wanted to take legal action against her.

When he mentions it in his videos he plays it off like the woman was obsessed with him, he didn't return her affections, and she tried to sue him as punishment.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, given the kind of women a guy like Jeremy attracts, but it's no surprise he hit the powder and tweaked the story in his head canon to cope.

>Silphium (probably of the genus Ferula) was a plant that grew in the area of Cyrene, pre sent day Libya, and was widely renowned as a spice, medicinal herb and perfume ingredient throughout the empires of the classical antiquity. It was praised by Greek philosophers and writers, as well as Roman emperors and cookbook authors. There were many attempts to cultivate Silphium, but they inevitably failed. It would only grow wild in a limited area of the north African coast. This is combination with its qualities as seasoning and medicine made Silphium the most valuable spice in the world, outshining both saffron and cinnamon. The demand for Silphium eventually became so overwhelming that it was harvested to extinction, and the taste and smell of the once greatest spice in the world was lost in time. Our rendition of this historical plant is created by researching surviving assumed relatives of Silphium, using aromachemicals (the molecular building blocks of scents) to create an accord that we feel represents what descriptions remains. This is set against a background of ancient incense, woods and leather
If one is fond of smells like petrol, varnish, industrial glues and paints this is something worth getting a sample of. Something for fans of DS Durga Bowmakers for sure, too. It's quite abstract but when focused enough I can pick here smoky incense, zesty citruses, dusty, earthy labdanum and some pepper but how this altogether sums up to this piercing, synthetic (in a good way) smell is beyond my comprehension. Can't stop sniffing my wrist anons.

Very expensive fragrance like Roja, Clive Christian or Henry Jacques is a meme that was created purely by the current luxurious goods market logic where agents like rich Arabs who simply want to have the most expensive things and don't care about anything else (I've seen some of the spending thousands of pounds on fragrances in Harrods and Selfridges without even smelling them). So these brands they keenly provided this demand with some supply.
Expensive fragrance is mostly meme. The rule of diminishing returns applies here just like to every other market. The further improvements past some threshold (about $100-ish) are minimal and the market of fragrances that cost more than that exists mostly because it caters to people who are looking for something special and unique not simply 'smelling good'. You can find designer fragrances for $20 that are of better quality than some niche ones for $200.
However, on average, if you care about how much of money you paid went into ingredients and creating the scents then you're more likely to be fucked buying a designer fragrance. Most of the price you pay for them is marketing, packaging etc. They cut money wherever they can on ingredients. The prices of niche are higher because they don't can't use the economy of scale like big designer houses. Chanel owns literal hectares of lavender fields in Grasse to cut costs. If you are a niche perfumer you must buy it from some third parties that also want to take some profit.
Here is a very insightful article about the actual cost of fragrance in the industry by Andy Tauer: https://www.tauerperfumes.com/blog/2016/10/02/the-price-of-things/
>In perfumery, the regular model is: a coefficient of 4.5 to 5.5 goes to the distributor. This means: A product that is sold in stores for 135$ US: the distributor pays the producer 135$ divided by 5.0: 27$.

I would pay twice the money for Fatih Sultan Mehmed if it had twice the performance. Wouldn't pay much at all for it the way it is now. I'm sure other people can smell it, but after you wear a perfume for a couple hours you tend to not be able to smell it anymore, and with FSM two hours in it's weak anyway. Really do love the smell though, it has a similar feel to Aventus, but higher quality.

So after a day of wearing Bogue Lita I’m not terribly enthused by it. I vaguely get the T Rex comparisons but they are very different scents. Lita has smoke and resins, but it is also plasticky, dark, and bitter. Someone on basenotes mentioned a vinyl accord and I absolutely agree, that plastic vibe dominates the scent for me. The drydown has been a bit more enjoyable once the vanilla and booze peek their heads out, but it’s not a favorite

I definitely agree with your sentiment about weak performance. 30 minutes after the application it's almost a skin scent. I reckon that's a classic dilemma of a perfumer: should I use predominantly natural ingredients and scarify performance or make it last longer at the cost of smelling edgier. One can tell that he definitely went the first road by how smooth this frag is. Have you tried Mr. Bojnokopff's Purple Hat or Amber Absolutely? I find their performance to be better (especially the latter) and the osmanthus used there is to die for. The only fragrance I've smelled that used it so well was Auphorie Miyako.

I have tried Bojnokopff, haven't tried AA. Bojnokopff was ok, seemed to have good longevity, but mediocre projection. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a "beast mode" faggot, but with expensive perfumes I want both me and people around me to smell them. Anyway, I honestly didn't get much oud out of it. I believe it's natural oud, but I prefer the stinky, pungent kind. After wearing at least 15 oud oils and at least 15 natural oud perfumes, I think oud does best on its own.

That's understandable. It's better for a fragrance to perform well in general - one can just go easier on sprayer if it's supposed to be quieter. You can't do much other way around but perhaps spray it on clothes. Is AA marketed as an oud-forward fragrance? I think he used it in a rather instrumental way there (just like Nicolai does), to improve the structure and accentuate some facets of the frag. It was marketed to me as the amber to rule them own and making Ambra Aurea look bland in comparison and while it's definitely a great amber fragrance I don't think it fulfills these promises, so I also had a slight mismatch between expectations and what AA actually is but in a different way.

I blind bought this and am having a tough time with it. I can spray it on a piece of clothing (I use shirts lying around for testing, I think they do much better than paper) and smell it strongly and really enjoy the smell. It's right on that line of "feminine, no longer unisex" that I occasionally enjoy. However when I wore it a couple days ago on skin, I couldn't smell it for the life of me. It's like it wasn't there, but I can smell it over and over again on the sleeve of a shirt. Also the general consensus is that it has enormous projection, so it's not an issue like that.

>yes, it's not about the price, i don't want to have full bottles laying around of stuff I don't like or wear. if you're a hoarder/collector of course you can buy it. even if the sample price per ml is not that great with cheap scents, at least you can save 20 euros that you can use for a full bottle of something you like.
That's the same case with me. I have a pedantic and maybe slightly OCDish personality. If I don't love it then I don't want it on my shelf.

This is a great recommendation that I agree with wholeheartedly.
By the way has anyone here tried Ormonde Jayne's candles? Turin hyped me up for them quite a bit in this column. However, I want to hear some opinions first as he also praises Nicolai's candles. I bought some of her candles for Christmas for my gf and they disappointed me severely - you simply couldn't smell them. Maybe I bought wrong ones though.

You're looking into a wrong place to improve then. Fragrance will give you a very marginal edge at this mate. Get a gym membership, improve your style and grooming habits but foremostly develop some personality. You're exactly the reason why Jeremy got so popular - his channel is entirely built upon a promise of getting laid simply by buying something that he gives to to young guys struggling with women. That's also the reason behind Aventus success - years of internet rumors on the grapevine about how well received by women it is and lying about compliments that started on some PUA forums decades ago (btw it was the same with Escentric Molecules - it was claimed to be a 'getting laid pheromone'). No fragrance alone will get you laid.

i've tried it on paper, so can't claim I know it well. to me profondo smells like orignal ADG with an aventus touch. Just a bit. I feel it's more citrusy than the original. Not better than Profumo, doesn't have that profumo patchouli bite. Don't blind buy it, you might like it, but test it before. Seems to be longer lasting than original ADG yes, but so it Profumo.

However, I went back years later and now I’m basically trying to decide whether or not to buy it. I think it’s beautiful. My only concern is that the reason I like it with such a gap between samples is that maybe it’s not what it used to be and I simply didn’t like what it once was.

I want to get into fragrances, but I am very sensitive to scents.
I am yet to go around anyone who wears a cologne that I don't feel like I'm breathing in chemicals.
I do like aftershaves, and shave soaps a lot.
Maybe it's an issue with it being sprayed? Although I can't say that explains why I have an issue with other peoples? Is it that aqua freshness smell that I maybe dislike? Maybe that's like a trend with colognes now? I do kinda like aqua velva aftershave so maybe not idk. I tend to prefer more darker scents with a bit of spice. Bay rum, pumpkin, cinammon, etc.

I was considering ordering one of Southern Witchcrafts Eau De Parfum's. I have an aftershave and soap from them I really like.

It smells like Ophelia painting. Their release notes sum it up perfectly, too:
[Fathom – A unit of length equal to six feet, chiefly used in reference to the depth of water]

Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange. – Ariels Song

Broadly taking its inspiration from The Tempest (in which Shakespeare conjures images of violent weather, shipwrecks and magical islands), the chief theme of ‘Fathom V’ is a phrase gleaned from “Ariel’s Song” within the play.

‘Sea-Change’, which we now have come to understand as ‘a transformation’ or ‘metamorphosis’ first appeared in the play, and has now passed into common usage. The eternally changing state of the sea – in constant flux between calm and wild – is our departure point here, explored though the use of seemingly contradictory raw materials in ‘overdosed’ concentrations: Salt meets earth, sparkling herbals blend with dark mosses, bright floral notes meet intense dark spices and pepper.

By contrasting the above and below, light and shade, we imagine the shifting state of the sea: its intensity – the allure of its dark depths.

A fragrance for the intrepid: challenging preconceptions of what ‘Aquatic’ truly means…
