The LF1 was called bizarre and hated by sneaker fans and Acronym fans alike and initially sat on the shelves. 5 years later, both the design and functionality have been ripped off by Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, Y-3 and many more.

As much as I hate the yeezys I at least respect them for being an innovative shoe. Most sneakers are just
>woooooow let’s put some zip ties, zippers, stitches, cum stains as accessories
>oh uh maybe paint a part of the shoe
>let’s give it a wild and impractical color scheme
That being said puma is underrated In term of sneaker design

You really made me dig up my old sufu password and go through pages and pages of the Acronym thread just to prove you wrong. Yes, the LF1s eventually became more popular and a meme shoe but they were unanimously hated initially; even by the die hard Acronym heads on sufu. Errolson himself dubbed them the "most hated shoe of all time": https://www.highsnobiety.com/p/errolson-hugh-interview/
And I'm not even going to bring up the reactions from sneakerheads and hypebeast, but if you want to take a look for yourself, it doesn't get better:

The side zip was not revolutionary functionality, both the Stan Smith Zip Lite and the Adidas x Porter Superstar released in 2011. And the zips on the Y-3 Stans allow you to remove the lacing system, changing the look of the shoe.

y-3 had zippers on shoes other than stans lmao, yohji mainline as well. also this >>15879429 and i bet theres other examples of zippers on sneakers well before errolson did it lmao

the lf1 is not and was not an example of avant garde design. it's a fucking nike with a zipper on it. acronym fans and sneakerheads aren't exactly reknown for their foward facing design sensibilities anyways

That's like saying Duchamp's Fountain isn't avant garde because it's "just a toilet with some writing on it". We get it, you don't like the Acronym LF1 and that's perfectly fine. You don't have to. But saying it isn't an avant garde sneaker is straight up retarded.

it's a nike with a zipper how does it constitute any of those things? is that what you consider radical or unorthodox design? an aesthetic innovation? seriously lmao?

the only thing it has going for it is that it wasn't well received initially which isn't actually inherent to the avant garde, especially in fashion

>it's a nike with a zipper

It's an iconic silhouette that hadn't been touched in 35 years, radically reconstructed with a disruptive yet functional zip-entry along the lacing all the way to the toes. That is both radical and unorthodox. I already outlined the aesthetic innovation of the colorblocked preformed VAC TECH heelt, hat inspired many brands.

Please, show me your idea of an avant garde sneaker.
