Holy fuck was it a monumental pain in the ass to attach the chinkshit combi bracelet on the square G-Shock, or the strap adapter for that matter. What's worst is the case of the watch is made from plastic so as you're doing it, the lugs are disintegrating in front of your eyes. So much for muh durability. But I already knew this from my old Casios. All Casios are definitively trash as long as they do not upgrade to a metal case. Those lug holes gonna erode. That's how my old W-800H died.

Last time I inquired at my AD I got a smirking sales rep who acted as though simply asking about a no date ceramic submariner was somehow funny. This is at an AD where both my partner and I have spent quite a lot of money over the years and I was already on the list for the discontinued model. Annoyed the @#$% out of me to be honest. I would rather have them politely take my name down and tell me they will do their best with all the earnestness they can muster even if they can not promise on when they will deliver.

I know it is a pointless move and I am not doing myself any favors. But I did let on that his overall response (a combination of amusement and reluctance) was not appreciated. It is not like I came in cold and asked if I could buy their stock of Steel sports Rolexes. I was literally there to have the size adjusted on 7k worth of rings that were bought (by my partner) in their store, while also asking after another (non-Rolex) watch. You can tell me the watch is not available in a professional way that is not quite as dismissive.

>> No.15851066

>>15851057

Perhaps my sense of pride in this is silly. But should you really have to feel like you are being mocked, or you are somehow "begging" to buy a watch? I left the store first feeling ridiculed. Then afterward when I calmed down feeling guilty and hoping the sales rep was not taken aback by my response. Which would not have been so negative if they would just give some hint or indication of whether the wait for the discontinued model somehow translated in a significant way to the wait list for the new model. That kind of secrecy to me is not due to the relative scarcity of the product. Or even due to the fact that they have to be careful whom the allocate watches to in order to avoid flippers. I understand and respect those are realities they have to deal with and I can completely accept that might mean I can not purchase a watch I want. But an AD can decide on the way they communicate that to their customer. i.e. not put them on a wait list for 2 years then laugh when they dare inquire about it.

>> No.15851069

I walked in to a local AD, asking about the latest sub 1204060 with genuine interest...all the readings and hype about the newer 3230 calibre really had me excited. I had the most abrupt brushoff I believe I have ever had....he gave me the same sideways glance my dachshund gives me. Maybe it's the Roseville, CA area or possibly I should just really stick to ordering online. He told me if I was willing put a down-payment on the watch I might be able to place hands on it sometime in 2022....before then he did not have any in the shop he was willing to put in my hands. Ending the sideways conversation with, "you can always view them online..." and then went back to polishing the showcase. Is this typical in your area?

But if you want to go down that route, Rolex movements feature no hand finishing despite the extreme price and they have no display casebacks to show off these impressive movements. A display caseback with a decorated movement would do a lot towards justifying the price, and since Omega can get 300M water resist on a watch with a display caseback there is no reason to say that this is for maintaining specs.
Yet nobody ever criticizes this shit whereas if other companies were to do this they would get "hmmmm well it's a nice watch but this is an automatic, why not put in a display caseback so people can see what they're getting? seeing the movement is part of the joys of owning an automatic watch..." Ok, let's try an exercise to find a watch that's superior to Rolex in these categories:

a) it has to have the same level of finish or better (since Rolex is apparently so basic)
b) it has to be a lot cheaper than Rolex (since Rolex is apparently so overpriced)
c) it has to have decent and universal design (not mall-like, tool design is fine, preferably between sporty and dress, not ultra-dress like Patek, not ultra-sporty like watches for black people)
d) it has to have a certain *something* that Rolex doesn't have (for example a display case back, or a rare complication, so that when your friend has a Rolex, you can show off your watch and say "but does your Rolex have this?")

Please list anything that fits the criteria and we can analyze it.
