You can tie it up or wear a headband.

Trim it every 2-3 months to keep the ends healthy and yeah, use some kind of oil - argan oil or coconut oil. All are good

i’ve used this before. it left my hair feeling like straw. i buzzed my head about a year ago after a botched haircut, although there is no way to make hair grow faster, you can assure that your scalp itself will be healthy. oils themselves cannot provide this but changing up your habits in regards to your hair will.
1. get rid of shampoos with sulfates or any harsh detergents. these strip your hair of its natural oils and can make it feel like straw. as much as ogx harps on being “organic” it’s a load of horse shit. i recommend using something like love beauty and planet. i’ve been using the coconut water and mimosa flower shampoo + conditioner and my hair doesn’t feel dry and frizzy like it does with other brands.
2. use a microfiber towel or a cotton t-shirt to dry your hair. don’t rub, squeeze or pat your hair dry.
3. learn scalp massages. this is where oils will come into play. a little goes a long way for most oils. oils themselves are a very personal thing. the only thing i can say is: keep it organic and check for carrier oils.

as for keeping yourself cool in the summer, i couldn’t tell you. i hate the heat. i’ve always worn my hair fairly short and i still get a sweaty scalp/neck.

Get leave in conditioner instead. Washing it out is counter productive. I have wavy hair so I use curl activator so I don't have a specific recommendation if you got long, straight hair. Check reddit.

I second this

My hair reaches my waist and is extremely healthy. I use love beauty and planet, which is sulfate free, and shower everyday however only shampoo about 2-3 times a week. Now, when i do use shampoo with sulfates, my hair gets stringy and I get a flaky scalp.

As well, try using a hair mask or castor/coconut oil on your scalp every two weeks or so. For best results, wash out the oil with conditioner rather than shampoo.

Also, it's best to avoid heat as much as your can- However if you do what to use a straightener or blow dryer aim to use the low heat setting.
