Anyone else have trouble keeping extremely fine hair in good condition?

My hair is fine when it's around shoulder length, but as it grows longer it starts getting impossibly tangled and brushing it not only takes ages but also pretty much scalps me every time do it.

Well now it's been closer to 3 years since the last haircut.

Went through a ton of hair loss when it first grew out though, might never recover (fucking CG routine)

I actually cut my hair after 4 and a half years this summer and now Im regrowing it, it got really in a bad state and I kinda wanted to see how Im with short hair, and Im pretty happy how I look with short, but I will regrow it kinda like long hair Keanu. Cant grow it really long again.

there are hair treatments you can get that are like an anti-perm
you should look up "permanent hair straightening" and call salons near you that do it. While you're at it, look into what level of curl you have because the salon might ask but you could always walk in.

you can still get a hair cut now. wear a mask and ask your stylist to wear one. or look up tutorials, it doesnt look that hard just get really sharp scissors. i like the method where they section their hair into 4 low equally spaced ponytails. Consider the shape of your head when you do it, point cut after (with point facing upwards). you'll be fine.

I didn't know how awesome hairpins were until the pandemic hit but these are super good at keeping hair in the right place. Using one or two to keep your hair out of your eyes is a godsend.

I also use simple black hair ties. My hair's not long enough to make a real ponytail so I get this sorta dinky little handful of hair above my neck.

The other poster isn't giving the best advice. If it's truly dandruff then it will only get worse by adding oils. What he's suggesting would help dry scalp (which is not the same as dandruff). Both cause flaking which is why people tend to confuse them. Your hair does look dry so it is more likely to be dry scalp but not guaranteed. STOP using harsh shampoos containing sulfates which strip the hair of its natural oils and use the right kind of conditioners. Look up "curly girl method". Sounds dumb but it will give you the info you need to turn your dry frizzy hair into the luscious curls they were meant to be.

How long is too long?

Ive never actually tried doing anything with it but Im trying to put the effort into myself. Im going to a salon soon but I don't even know what to ask for other than getting the split ends trim.

I have long hair that reaches to around just below my pecs on both front and back, I have two problems.

1: My hair seems to have stopped growing, least as far as I can tell. I know getting split ends trimmed is good but is there any supplements or oils I can put in my hair to maybe make it grow faster? I'd want it to be like 4 inches more at this point, nothing too crazy.

2: My hair is curly(not super curly but still noticeable) and I prefer it straight, but I don't want to use a flat iron because I know that can damage my hair and cause it not to grow. What are some ways I can naturally straighten my hair? I don't need it pin needle straight, just more or less.

1: cut split ends is a definite yes, especially if you catch them early. a good way to grow your hair out without any product is to wash your hair every 3 days or once a weak, your natural hair oils help with growth
that or vitamen E oil, you can get a bottle at trader joes

2: brush your hair after you shower, preferably when its in the mid stage of drying and is damp and malleable
just be careful how you brush it, my hair curls out at the end if I brush it

Same anon here, if anyone here is also wondering about the second part, I tried out the method of wrapping your (damp) hair around your head tight and securing it with bobby pins and letting it dry overnight(or just over a period of a few hours really) and it actually works.

All I did was lightly dry my hair with a towel after a shower, split it down the middle into two sections and brush them both while it dries, then when it was relatively dry but still damp I just put it in a pony tail, wrapped the pony tail around to my forehead and secured it with a bobby pin, then left it and it's not pretty much dry and much much straighter than what it normally is.

Very good method of doing it without needing any flat irons or blow dryers.

My hair gets super greasy super fast when I grow it out. To top it off, I'm going with a semi curly look, but it only happens if I shower before bed and sleep with wet hair - so I can't shower in the morning. Any idea on how to make my hair less greasy? I condition and detangle daily, followed by a bit of leave in conditioner when I get out of the shower. I use coconut oil weekly, have tried many different shampoo/conditioners and hair masks, but nothing really works for me... It looks beautiful and healthy while wet, but as soon as it dries it gets ugly af.

How’s this attempt? I don’t own a single pair of jeans that looks as good as some anons on here and I’m not sure where to start. Maybe it’s my body type but I don’t think many jeans flatter my legs.
