What do you think about lofts and cieling cubby holes and that type of thing? Every burger home I've been in has giant vaulted ceilings that seem like a massive waste of space. 12 foot ceilings seem really unnecessary, cut them down to 8 and have a warm place to lie down in and read a book in overhead.

>> No.15803303

Lucky for you that could be a cheaper option. Although the material of >>15801825 doesn't look like plywood.

>>15802185
It takes experimentation to figure out what works for you. Figure out a hierarchy to each room. Figure out which pieces of furniture take up the most space, for example, and then orient the rest of your stuff to accommodate those pieces. Organize "clutter" to sectors where it's more allowed, allowing other parts of the room to remain relatively bare. In those areas of clutter, try to make it so that you don't have to move one thing in order to access the other. Decorate your space with a variety of material types, but make sure that all your stuff is high quality. Use storage furniture to hide the necessary but ugly things you have in your home (I for instance hate having to see my dumb, plastic modem/router, so I'd ideally have them tucked away from view)

>>15803299
I love homes that have cozy spaces to basically nest. Vaulted ceilings are generally just a show of wealth and too tacky, so I'm all about utilizing the space you have as long as it doesn't make the place feel too cramped.

Guys I need some advice on what I should put in front of my window for seating. The wall is pretty narrow and I would need some space to the left and right (wardrobe left and moving in and out of the kitchen to the right).

All in all I could fit at most a couch with a width of 120-130cm or buy 2 nice Eames dining style chairs.

I also want to put a wall mounted folding table on the right side for when my girlfriend comes over for dinner.

>> No.15803842

>>15803815
I like "two chairs and a side table" idea, with the table in the middle, but would opt for something more "lounge-y" than table chairs. It would mirror the three-paneled window, and with that mirror on the left-hand wall it would will out that horizontal space of the wall instead of being anchored by one larger piece. If you aren't able to find a non-dining chair, then the IKEA piece you mentioned would be a good option too. In that case I'd probably add a large lamp to the left corner and a small table to the right with either a plant or some colorful knick-knack (since the room itself is very white, color would balance it out).

Depends on the person. My roommate is a writer and knowing that, it doesn't surprise me that he has a lot of books and I expect he's read most of them. I read a lot and have a lot of books but haven't read all of them. People gift me books or I pick something up on a whim and then it just goes onto the list of 'to read when I'm done with the five other books I'm reading'. I also think it's pretty easy to tell when someone's bookshelf is a larp either based on how it's arranged or what books they have.

why do people in 2020 obsess over laminate flooring?

i know it gives the ikea vibe but it literally is trash IE "post consumer materials" aka landfill compressed with a sticker ontop to make it look like wood.

there are multiple options for the low income, be it engineered flooring (cuts not good enough to make it into OSB), even epoxy/resin based strited bamboo blends

what i mean by that is spaces in europe i've been in are most often older, so the home owner is somewhat limited in what they can do with the space. it's hard to preserve the integrity of the space and maximize its potential. conversely most places in the US or canada are relatively new builds. there's also not much history or any reason to be conscious of preservation, so you can justify additions, knocking out walls, replacing old finishes etc.

First of all, congrats! To get a sense of the space, move around your current furniture at least 3 times over the coming weeks, to get a feel for what layouts are possible.

Don't cheap out on furniture you're going to be sitting on. A cheap table will still be fine to work with, at least for the time being. A cheap couch won't be fun to sit on, and a chair that hurts after sitting on it for a couple of hours won't be used much. If you're anything like the average person, you'll spend quite some time on a couch, so this is something you can splurge on.

It's hard to give specific advice on what to do, it's always a very fine balance between not having too much stuff (you don't want to make it feel stuffed) and not having enough stuff (you don't want to have only the essentials, there has to be room for the individual.)

Oh and add plants! There's nothing worse than seeing people live on their own without plants. At least 2-3.

Pretty good quality so far, arms could be a little more padded but I use cushions anyway. Fabric is synthetic (polyester I think), but feels nice.

I got it on sale for about $800. Definitely good enough for that price (about the cost of an IKEA leather loveseat), getting a little more of a question at full price of $1,100.

Hmmm, I like the idea but I feel like interesting legs require more skill than I have to make. If I could salvage some materials to use them that'd be a good option.

I'm currently planning on making a very skinny C-shape out of dimensional wood. I really only need enough space for a mug and maybe a phone, plus it'd be neat if I could easily move it between my couch and my chair.

>Need to buy a new sofa

>There are a shit ton of companies making sofas that look halfway decent

Jesus fucking christ, it's overwhelming. The worst part is that the "best" sofas tend to have no reviews I trust and thus they're best because of ignorance. I'm looking right now at one by Allform, for example, and it's
>Made in the US
>Decent materials
>Lifetime warranty on non-upholstery
>100 day free returns
>modular
But no one seems to have any opinion on them except they ship slightly late. It's not like Joybird where people threaten their children on twitter, or Article where people cast doubts on longevity, or Poly and Bark where they charge you 30% to return if it's not packed well.
