Trying to find rain gear that isn't a shell or umbrella.
Obviously there are certain types of clothing that look spergy on most people, wide brimmed hats, biker jackets, trench coats, ect. Do ponchos fit into this category?
Feels like a retarded question, but I've literally never seen someone wearing a rain poncho in the city.

I don't see the problem with a rain poncho

looks more homeless than edgy, although there was that ex-marine or whatever filmed doing some murders in a poncho a while back

Those see-through plastic ponchos are fairly common, at least so much so that you wouldn't make a second glance towards someone who wears one.
I would say it's about as "edgy" as any military surplus. Just make sure to wear it only when it's raining.

Maybe but they are arguably more practical. I could be wrong, but I feel like it would be more comfortable than a form fitting rain jacket if you were doing outdoors activities, and you can drape it over your bag and still have air flow
