The vast majority of them are shills or just pandering to coomers. Pretty much Wafts are the only really trustworthy ones as far as I’m concerned. Dua honestly is just junk. All their stuff smells incredibly synthetic (relax guys, not saying synthetics - bad, just saying they SMELL synthetic which IS bad) and cheap. Like the other anon said, you could get decants of the real thing for less than what they charge. There is no scenario where their stuff is worthwhile unless you’re too lazy to find decants.

>> No.15779763

>>15779759
Ma Nishtana is amazing. Smells sort of like chlorinated pool water and smoke to me, which sounds bad but it’s really not. He’s somehow managed to make a really light, airy, fresh incense and resin frag. It’s pretty remarkable.

Tom Yum is cool, smells exactly like you’d think it does. Basically citrus and green, aromatic herbs. Very gourmand but not sweet.

Sloth is legitimately one of Zootopian’s best scents. It’s super comfy and relaxing, smells sort of like spiced apple pie, but with a little funkiness from the mushrooms and cumin and a bit animalic. I can’t really compare it to anything, you really just have to smell it for yourself.

Honest answer: it is a very good scent, but it’s a victim of its own success. Too many clones, too many people wearing it, you can even get shower gels that smell similarish now. The DNA is ingrained in people’s minds, everyone’s smelled it somewhere before. Doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it doesn’t have that wow factor anymore.

Also, Jeremy is a shill.

>> No.15779826

Guys, am I jaded and my dopamine circuits are fucked up or are all the HOOOH memes a meme? I've smelled more than 100 scents and I've never felt like "hoooooh this is really beautiful", and yeah, they were pleasant for the most part, some were more or less different from the shower gel meme that is currently leading in mainstream, but there was nothing that could blow my socks off
the more expensive ones i've tried often were more complex than the cheap fragrances, but outside of sitting in your room and smelling your wrist, it doesn't really matter if the scent is complex or not, because you won't even be able to identify slight nuances when walking down the street, and neither will other people, so I don't really see the point in splurging large amounts of cash on expensive shit, when you can wear cheap shit and it will be almost the same
like, there's no point in buying tuscan leather, when there's la yuqawam and I bet that there's something even cheaper
or whats the point in buying br540 when there's burberry her, or even whats the point in getting burberry her when you can just buy some ariana grande shit and no one will be able to tell the difference

What’s funny to me is how I legitimately “hoooooh” and did so before watching Wafts. Now I’m just aware of doing it.

It sounds like the artistry of perfumery isn’t for you. To some people they could taste one hundred whiskies and think “yeah, that’s nice” every time, but nothing more. What’s important is you enjoy it, but if you don’t feel you gain anything from it then it sounds like this isn’t for you. And that’s fine of course, I’m sure there are things you’d love that I don’t.

>> No.15779850

thing is, i really enjoy smelling things and exploring, but i just can't get excited by anything
for example I picked up musc ravageur recently and i was expecting this ANIMALIC SEX SCENT thing, but it turned out to be just a pour un homme de caron with some added nuances. And while i'd prefer wearing it over the Caron, it doesn't really make much difference to me when i'm outside, as every now and then i'd be getting wafts of practically the same thing
And I like to explore stuff and educate myself about the world of scents, but I think the ultimate conclusion is that there aren't better or worse scents, they could project better or last longer, yeah, but the scent doesn't have any intrinsic value in itself, maybe you could have some associations to the scent like that anon from the previous thread did, but it was that association that shaped his opinion, not the scent itself

Got a 10 ml of this 2 weeks ago. Man this is a nice scent. It's a dry oud, not too soapy.

clean, oud woody dry, would be the best description.

There's something about this blend that makes wear it again and again, even on days when I don't want to wear a fragrance. It's one of the most comforting smells I have, and smelled.

I heard it's the most "modern" ADP, could be because I also have a sample of Colonia Intensa, and let me tell you, it smells like first soap ever created. if you think TDH smells old, check colonia intensa.

But back to colonia oud concentree, wow. Anyone knows if Colonia OUD is the same fragrance? The one in the black bottle. It's cheaper.

He's good at marketing and this was one of his selling points. Now he has an audience that follows him just to hear good things about it so he wants to maintain that. It's nowhere near as good as people want to try make it online. I've asked multiple girlfriends when I was in department stores what do they think about it and their range of reactions was from 'eww' to disliking it. If you feel so hyped about it then get a decant instead of clones and test the real thing yourself tbf.

I've smelled more than 100 scents and I've never felt like "hoooooh this is really beautiful", and yeah, they were pleasant for the most part, some were more or less different from the shower gel meme that is currently leading in mainstream, but there was nothing that could blow my socks off
Welcome to having a developed nose. It takes me similar amount of frags to get one that's HOOOOHHH-worthy. The last one for me was Bianchi's The Black Knight and (the opening of) Etruscan Water. >the more expensive ones i've tried often were more complex than the cheap fragrances, but outside of sitting in your room and smelling your wrist, it doesn't really matter if the scent is complex or not, because you won't even be able to identify slight nuances when walking down the street, and neither will other people, so I don't really see the point in splurging large amounts of cash on expensive shit, when you can wear cheap shit and it will be almost the same
Depends on your goals. For me frags are mostly about how do they make me feel like. It's like having an extra aura around you. There are frags that put me in a comfy mood, there are frags that makes me really confident or sharp. Wearing a knock-off destroys all of that for me.

I don't have one but people may definitely associate me with some as I wear different scents to work, when in leisure, go out etc with different groups of people. They typically know me from one or two smells while in reality I rotate 10 of them across all of these groups. However, I've been thinking about it and I think the 'signature note' or 'signature accord' is the patrician way to go. A friend of mine has many bottles of fragrances but all of them have a common denominator of being really powdery or heavy on Iris (ELDO Putain des Palaces, Chanel Misia, Malle Lipstick Rose, Zegna Iris etc), so people associate him with that and may just think that he has one fragrance but it smells different on him because of the weather/skin chemistry etc when in reality he picks up the appropriate scent himself.

I hope you enjoy Anatolia when you get around to it. This is what I wrote in my document of various thoughts on various fragrances:

Smelling like an almost two metre tall lump of Turkish Delight isn’t something I ever thought I’d do, but here we are. It opens with a pleasant sweetness that seems to convey the smell of the aforementioned delicacy beautifully, including the icing sugar. But despite that lightness there’s plenty going on beneath it in the form of gorgeous spices. The typical Turkish Delight might be made with rosewater and it gives suggestions of rose but without what some may see as the downside of it being a floral rose. The spice and subtle smokiness take me to a Turkish market, but not the immediate chaos of one but a side street where you can still feel the business and smell the delights, but with a sense of respite. It’s calming, but at the same time exciting. The leather doesn’t announce itself until a while later, and it never truly becomes a leather scent (Despite the original release of this fragrance being called Turkish Leather) but goes to show that this is a scent that truly takes time to develop. One of the most interesting and fun fragrances I’ve tried.

The opening was really snice with all of the fresh-fruity nuances with tart ginger and some spices but sadly it's gone soon after spraying and the scent slowly converges to creamy vanilla that's slowly takes over this composition. At mid-stage it has the same feminine character as Layton. Here you have sweet vanilla contrasted by blackcurrant whereas in PdM there's rather apple. I don't really get why this combination of spicy vanilla and fruits has became so popular over last few years as for me it smells like women's fragrance, Good thing about Ani is that it's better quality than Layton but still nothing to write home about. Drydown is almost one-dimensional custardy vanilla. If you love vanilla or are just looking for a metro/fem scent then Ani could be for you. It's sad how it gradually becomes worse and worse scent as it dries down after the lovely opening.
>D.S. & Durga El Cosmico
I have no idea what's happening here and that's not surprising given that I have no idea what are half of the notes listed. It's woody, it's smoky and it has some strong greenish herbaceous-aromatic, but refreshing in a minty way, note that I can't identify but in my mind coming from some plant. I imagine some succulent mix between an aloe vera and a cactus smelling like it when you cut it and all juices are coming out. The drydown is way drier and dustier. I think there's a solid dose of cashmerean or ISO E Super as it has a very well known for me woody vibe. It's a love or hate type of scent given it's uniqueness. I haven't made my mind yet to which group I belong but for sure appreciate artistry that went to this fragrance.

>Fort & Manlé Amber Absolutely
I picked it up as I read that that's the amber fragrance to rule them all and a reviewer that I respect said that it's strictly better than Ambra Aurea, so I had to give it a go. First thought after the initial spray - amber with a big dose of honey. The scent that I know it from my grandfather. He used to have a few beehives in his orchard where bees could collect fruit trees' flowers pollen all summer and what resulted in a lovely and very fragrant honey he used to give us each year a big jar of. Then I looked at notes and I wasn't very off - the dominant note is plum and blackberry + sweet benzoin. I understand the comparison o Profumum Roma as it seems to be the same kind of complex amber used here. The fragrance has the same sweet-fruity and dark-resinous vibe throughout all phases. It's too sweet for me and I prefer Ambra Aurea/ACCD over it but if you're looking for something sweeter or love plums then oh my, you're for a treat here.
>Menditorrosa Osang
I'm surprised that no woody note are listed. It smells like Ikea or Home Depot furniture section remains smoldering after the fire. But it's much more complex than that. Very dry woody, incense fragrance with something fruity-floral hidden deep underneath. I must test it on my skin and give it a proper day or two of testing. It's very meditative and mysterious. Almost like a koan waiting to be solved.
>Filippo Sorcinelli LAVS
Now that's an amazing story. The guy who stands behind this fragrance has been creating vestments for popes for any years (what makes it even more unbelievable that the dude is very far away from the image of a meek god-fearing choirboy you might have in your mind) and LAVS is what he sprays these vestments with before sending them. Now when it comes to the scent then it's your typical Catholic Church incense with a refreshing bright peppery-citric accord as known from Avignon, Heeley Cardinal and handful others.

Hey guysa, on my quest for edginess I’m looking for something with an extremely smokey or incensey base with a fruit top. Obviously Aventus should be the first answer, but I want it challenging. Maybe breath of god or something...
Chypre structure probably preferred. I already thought of layering PR Arso with something that photorealistically replicates a fruit or berry.
Please advise!

>> No.15782749

You want smoky or resinous/ambery is fine? If so Chypre Palatin might be what you're looking for. It has a gorgeous plum and is the best resinous chypre I know of and I smelled plenty. Also can it be sweet-fruity?

Thank you for the input! Nope, resinous is not really what I’m looking for. I did like Chypre Palatin, but I feel like Chypre Siam did the same thing for me, but more coarse, which I like.

On another note: I sampled Chypre Siam extensively, loved it and ordered it. However, the actual liquid that Manuel sent me felt less oily, not the same green as the sample (more a brown), not as long lasting, less coarse in the opening and less smooth in the dry down. Should I just let it macerate for a while? I’m actually quite disappointed right now.

If citruses are fine as fruits then try.
>Maison de Parfum Berry Cathédrale
It's incense + bergamot. As the name suggests it smells like an old European cathedral. You get mostly a lot of incense and the smell of dusty wooden benches but there's more to it. There's a a strong fresh bergamot giving this otherwise quite austere composition some bright sprinkle. I can also get benzoin and lavender smoothening all of it sharp edges.
>Monsieur mon Amour Atelier Flou
These are again citruses + incense (oilbanum). It's probably the only incense scent that asks to be worn in warm weather. It's not really challenging though and turs quite soapy quickly.

Quite a good review
>What Frederic Malle and J.C. Ellena had in mind when naming this creation, I could not really understand after the first spray. But slowly I think I have understood it.
>Rose & Cuir is without doubt a floral fragrance, although not as expected. It works immediately after application on my skin, green, light, bitter, and a touch biting. The black currant gives it a slightly fruity and acidic note, which calms down quite quickly. The Szechuan pepper remains and gives a spicy pungency.
>Somehow I have the feeling that the rose geranium has wandered completely into the mixer, with leaf and stem, because Rose & Cuir keeps its green dress as it goes. After half an hour the second performer finally crawls up your nose. There was someone else, oh, yes, Mr. Cuir.
>He does not occupy the leading role in this game, and gives the lady priority at all times. He is now slightly present, grounding the scent and rounding it off in a wonderful way. Even with this fine leather note, the fragrance surprisingly retains its transparency, and helps it to last. Because over 8 hours are on my skin without any problems.
>The perfect companion for windy spring days and mild summer evenings, when man or woman want to wear something other than citrus scents. Perfectly unisex because, although flowery not a bit sweet. It's not really rose, and not really leather either, but it's wonderful

Damn, sucks. Maybe order from Olympic Orchids directly? Or the shipping costs are not feasible? We could recommend you some other of their scents if you want, so you don't order solely the Night Flyer. Also, don't go crazy about the OG Bat. Night Flyer is close enough. If you want to try the famous damp/earth accord of the OG Bat (that makes 50% of this scent) then I can recommend you
>Rabbit + Moth The Lobster
It's like taking the greenness of Xerjoff Nio, replacing its citric freshness with bitter smoky qualities and take the soil-animalic facets of the OG Zootopian Bat and attach it beneath a fresh water accord you could know from the new Zootopian Beaver. Very snice, nontrivial warm weather scent. It turns more bitter, galbanum-like on the way to the drydown
>Amouage Figment
That's probably the most original fragrance from the entire Amouage line up so I'd recommend sampling it to everyone. The opening smells like being closed in a cage in zoo full of exotic large cats that sprayed themselves with Chanel Egoiste - the animalic cat note is dominant but you get some lemony-spicy-woody nuances. Soon after the note of damp soil as known from the OG Zootopian Bat takes over but you still get this absolutely unique animalic note and sweet geranium smoothens the smell making it an actual perfume not just a conceptual smell. This is absolutely signature worthy for an eccentric or a person with a very strong personality who wants to make sure that they are going to be noticed from the very first second they enter the room and remembered for long.
Hope it helps.

I put a lot on my hand after reading that review, and it is quite describing honestly. A beautiful creation, although too green and sharp for my taste (I've yet to try a green-ish perfume that I loved)

you buy layton!
I'm kidding but maybe you liked certain parts of some of those in the chart and try to order samples of something else that perfumer has made or perfumes that contain the same notes which you liked

Go to Fragrantica and search on your own or watch good fragrance coutube channel, IMO not Jeremy, because his recommendations are sweet, citrusy, showergel type of fragrance, i.e. Aventus, Invictus, Bleu de Chanel or Prada l'homme, not offensive, sweet, citrusy, IMO boring.
After your research sample your findings, don't blind buy full bottles.

Based...?
Based on what? BASED ON WHAT? ON WHAT SHIT? Fucking braindead motherfucker. Everything I read is "based, based, based, cringe based, cringe, based", can't you think of something else? can't you come up with something else? It feels like I was talking to people with some kind of dementia and all they know to do is repeating the same fucking words in a loop. BASED ON WHAT??? ON THE BIBLE? ON THE DICTIONARY? ON MY HAIRY ASS? Oh, shut the fuck up, is like you can't write a single coherent text without using one of those overused and retarded words that lost all their meaning through time. "BASED BASED BASED CRINGE CRINGE KEK REDPILLED CRINGE KEK". FUCK OFF. Fucking moron, bitch, idiot, little shit.

It's meant to be more of a starting point to hone your taste, so you can figure out what notes/accords/genres you like and how some fragrances can smell like than a definitive powerranking of fragrances. Tell us what you liked and disliked out of the 10 initial frags and for what reasons and we'll help. I think it does an excellent job at this even if you didn't like everything. It's really repetitive and unproductive to have this kind of conversation with newcomers (not that there's anything wrong with not knowing much)
>/frag/ recommend me a fragrance please!!
>Ok, what kind of fragrances do you like?
>Idk, rather fresh masculine ones maybe
>Any specific notes?
>What are notes?
>What occasions do you want to cover with this fragrances?
>Idk, just a good all-rounder, something for work, dates and leisure
>What's your budget?
>How fragrances are priced?
and so on and so on. Now that, as you said, you tested almost everything in the initial circle tell us more about what you like and dislike so you won't be this guy and we can recommend you something working for you. I wish there was a chart like that when I was starting out instead of randomly trying different fragrances without any understanding

Agreed. It's really green. I would even say that piercing bitter green at times. Like a rose mixed together with stalks and everything (the picture I posted is quite suggestive imo) but it's one of the most masculine roses I've tried and has bonus points for not being yet another iteration of rose+oud accord. I know that these posters I'm responding to have been on the quest of finding a good masculine rose for quite a long time so they might be interested. Also leather is getting softer while woods take over it in the drydown, Good stuff.

Copying it here as the lady from Papillon doesn't know how instagram works like and it's a mess to read it there from the mix of comments
>Every now and then you make a discovery which brings you a very welcome before and after perspective. I have had a few of these in my life, before and after the beloved, Schubert, Lebanese Red and of course my perfume hobby. I always feel profoundly grateful when such discoveries happen and find myself asking the somewhat cliched question “Where have you been all my life?”
One such case where I have been delighted to ask that magical question beloved of love affairs, is that of Papillon Perfumery. This house was founded by perfumer Liz Moores, and she is clearly a wonderful talent. I had in fact seen her perfumes in their clear and elegant bottles sat happily on the shelf in Les Senteurs in London and never thought to try them. It was in fact my dear friend and brother in all things olfactive, Dan who introduced me to todays chosen perfume and I will be eternally thankful that he did....’
>So day 12 brings us the altogether pivotal Tobacco Rose from Papillon Perfumery. This perfume was launched at the start of the brand in 2014 as part of a powerful trio every bit as influential as those in Der Rosenkavalier, The West Wing ( Josh, Toby and Sam) and those 80’s Choctastic biscuits in red wrappers. The trio included Anubis which is about as glorious a smokey and opulent leather as you will find and Angelique which feels more like Spring than Spring itself. Tobacco Rose sits between them with both something of the depth and complexity of Anubis and the youthful brightness of Angelique. If you only owned these three perfumes, you could quite happily seek nothing more in my opinion!

>> No.15784819

>>15784814
>>Now you may be asking at this point, where is the tobacco? This is where I think the genius of Liz Moores comes to fruition, for there is no obvious single tobacco note as such, rather the feeling is created from the combination of the mossy base with its inherent dampness, the dry grass and hay sitting in the sun, and the more chocolatey baritone nuances in the Bulgarian Rose itself. So rather than a single tobacco accord, we have it dispersed through each layer of the perfume and it only makes itself felt when your imagination is free to construct itself yourself. I cannot think of many perfumes where I have been made to come in closer and work for it, and to allow my imagination to transport me wherever I like. Some days if I want a red and fruity Rose, I have got it. Other days I want a green perfume with hints of Rose, yes again. Other days I want something which feels like an earthy and sensual affair, more about a feeling than the focus on notes ( a word I like less and less) themselves and again this delivers. Beauty is here is genuine and inherent, it is honesty personified and is all the more beautiful for that. It smells luxurious without trying to be, it is homely and familiar. It is traditional and yet feels utterly contemporary. It is simply stunning, and I will never be without a bottle. As I cannot write with the eloquence I would like, I want to leave you with Friedrich Rückert. I imagine were he confronted with the false pomp personified in Auden’s revolution filled “Beauty’s conquest of your face” might answer in essence “Liebst du um Schönheit, O nicht mich liebe. Liebst du um Liebe, O Ja, Mich Liebe!”

>>The middle and base have a huge amount to be thankful for in making this far more than just a Rose, for it provides that wonderful realism of being in a garden rather than in some gilded and opulent fantasy. The base itself is not so much a long and empty finish or sad afterthought as sometimes happens, rather its Oakmoss serves to really bolster and support what happens up top. It gives me the nuance of soil and dampness which provide balance alongside the top and mid, rather than being the sad remnants of the lost glories of hours past.
>This opening for all its beauty and plush fruitiness is balanced by the beginning of the earthy aspects which make this perfume really speak to me. Firstly is a segue from the hints of jammy sweetness, in the form of the Beeswax. This has a gentle honey but also what I always think of a papery, cardboard note. I can't really explain it. Perhaps I mean biscuity or even toasty. Either way, it makes for a nice bridge from the top. I also get flashes of Vetiver which for me give that feeling of grass sitting out in the sun. It is green but not so fresh as the opening Rose and Geranium. There is also a hay note, which has a slight green sweetness and even the faintest hint of something animalic, not dirty but just somewhat like warm skin. There is also the very clever use of ambergris to bind these aspects together and leave a somewhat sensual salty/sweet trail. I don't smell the ambergris but I feel its presence in the way it interacts with its neighbours. Much like a french horn in the orchestral texture, you feel its warmth radiating but not unless everything else stops will you hear it cleanly.

>We open perhaps unsurprisingly with Rose, and what a stunning Rose it is. It is the finest Bulgarian Rose and Rose De Mai singing a duet so beautiful that you cannot help but smile. We have so many facets here, both the darkness and brooding colours, and the fresh green and herbaceous energy. There is also a Geranium playing alongside the Rose which lends its green flashes of light, rather like a squeeze of lemon in rich jammy syrup to keep it lifted. It does not come across as especially dominant or like a big dose of minty cleanness. Rather it just keeps gently suggesting a light to illuminate the interplay of the Roses, it provides a real sense of foreground and background which to already be happening in the top notes is so exciting and feels very generous. It feels a million miles away from the Rose that you might associate with faux luxury, the sort of thing that comes with connotations of middle eastern palaces and vulgar displays of wealth. I have had my fair share of this stuff pushed on me in shops I won't mention, thinking that I must obviously want to choke out the room with the latest Oud and Rose combo costing all my kidneys. It probably lasts on skin for 6 weeks and on clothes for 6 months and tends to be louder than most jet engines. I always say please show me the honesty of a perfume. I don't want beauty or luxury for the sake of it I want something direct and real. This has it and then some.
Jesus, it's longer than my undergrad thesis
