It doesn't have some kind of cultural movement to back it, it's literally just a gay pretentious homogenization of a bunch of different styles with zero utility or reasoning behind it.

It's probably something to do with the audience of TikTok being so young and as they age their tastes change, and it's just more obvious when it's such a mono-generational thing. It'll come back for sure. I used to dress my IMVU doll in this style like 10 years ago lol.

Name one millennial trend that had staying power? I'm a millennial and we had pastel goth, street goth, seapunk, pastel grunge, and all those early mid-10s micro-trends that had no staying power. And no emo, grunge, and normal goth were not millennial subcultures.

Subculture died in the 2000s, the internet killed it and now you have micro-trends/subcultures because everyone can just get into their own groups. It's not at the behest of malls/musicians/the music industry anymore. Everything is niche and for the most part normies don't care and depending on where you live you'll never see any of these people irl.

>And no emo, grunge, and normal goth were not millennial subcultures.
Maybe where you lived.

What about skate culture? That was a HUGE part of 2000s subculture and has show to have lasting staying power. Zoomers are now directly influenced by early 2000s skateboarding and some influence never fully left to begin with.

>the internet killed it
Emo subculture became bigger BECAUSE of the internet. Remember Myspace?

>Everything is niche and for the most part normies don't care
This is always the thing with sub cultures. At least until they become mainstream and normie and then die out as a result

Terrible example. The Netherlands is always behind on trends or misinterprets them. They had housewives wearing UGGs when in the rest of the world it was only teen girls who wore them to highschool.

Not Dark Academia, but I personally think the aesthetic is neat, it's pretty respectable and it is timeless if done right
