I don't get what's the point of spending 1000€ for watches without in-house movements? you're paying for a 150€ movement and a nice case? saying this because I love the junghans max bill but I'm not sure about buying it (yes they did slightly modify the 2824 by adding the date, but it doesn't really count as a different movement) Also a thing that i hate is that even the no-date max bill has the movement with the date. What the fuck? You can literally hear the date click when you wind the crown and when you take out the crown it stops at the first position, to adjust the date that isn't there and the second one for the actual time.

I'm still going to buy it for 750€ probably though

Because there is nothing inherently better about in house. If an in house movement offers no real improvement in specs over it's off the shelf counterpart, while being more difficult and expensive to service or repair, then it's actually worse. The only time in house is worth it is when it can offer a significant upgrade in specs, form factor or features, which is only really the case at higher price points. This obsession with in house is an extremely recent phenomenon and throughout history the ebauché has played an incredibly important role in watchmaking. Rolex bought in movements. The holy trinity bought in movements. Lemania made many of the greatest chronograph movements ever. None of these watches or movements are any "less" because of it.
TL;DR in house is a marketing tool, try to look objectively at what they're offering you

At least you don't want the ceramic Pepsi GMT Master, the colors look really bad in person. The Batman and the all black one are much better.
Alternative: I've held two Steinhart GMT watches and they were both pretty good. Bezel is a classic dive ratched bezel though with 24 hour markers added. Got a good movement for the price though and they now make it in 39 mm and ceramic bezel. 540€ for pic related, 640€ for Pepsi bezel with Jubilee bracelet.

Recriational diving limit is about 39m. After 60m you need to get into gas mixes and certification and all that gay shit. Not many dive with their actual watch. This watch is safe for a casual pool session. Not defending oris tho. They could just use a better gasket system and upgrade depth ratig without making the watch thicker. Yeah i know the 4r36 has hacking and handwinding, but there has to be some reason why seiko revamped the 7s26 with hacking and handwinding to make the 6r15 and put that into their one step up the ladder automatic watches instead of just dropping it entirely and using 4r36 movements in watches like the SARB.

Im looking around Getat for a Panerai homage, I just cannot decide on the finishing. All brushed for that hunk of metal industrial timekeeping device, or fully polished for maximum bling? Brushed case with polished bezel looks odd to me.
How about a brushed Luminor (1950 case for a bit more eyecandy) and a polished Radiomir with wire lugs (and california dial)?
Might be the perfect two-watch collection for me.

Ideally I would get an 8 day base Luminor, but no way Im paying 6k for one. I could get at least two of my other grails for that kind of money. I know Panerai have been under a waterfall of shit, and I want to like them, but I just cannot justify the price, just like with IWC.

Being serious though there does seem to be a shift in the market atm and precious metal watches are becoming more popular. Why pay 3 times list price for steel when you can get a gold version of almost the same price.

Yeah the Blue Moon is still very nice and versatile, but the Starlight is still the prettiest of them all, to me at least. I was too anxious and didn't do a proper research, i could have gotten one for nearly the same money as the Blue Moon. I did the same mistake again a few months later when i bought this awkward and heavy piece that i can't get rid of now. I did somehow improve by changing the crystal after scratching it and reducing the thickness by about 2mm, the new crystal now sits flush with the case and looks better as well (pic on the right). Anon I don't know how to tell you this but the only one being a tryhard here is you. You're just an elitist snob who measures his value by how much he spent on overpriced trinkets that only impress superficial people. No one with real money cares about what toy you wear on your wrist, they're interested in your dmarts and skills, they're certainly not impressed when you spend a considerable fraction of your yearly earnings on a fucking wrist watch.

Almost true. Those that care, care a great deal and those that care have real money.

Also a cheap watch looks cheap even to people who do not know about watches. That same applies to clothes, sneakers, cars and so on. Quality matters and can be recognized by everyone.
