How does one achieve samurai core without looking like an autistic cosplayer?
I've seen waistline yukatas on aliexpress. Is there a place that sells decent ones instead? As for bottoms I'm thinking either drapped joggers to simulate the hakama or tight-ish pants, and running sneakers.

I think that's more like a "I don't give a fuck" look. The objective here is achieving the samurai look, but with a modern twist that doesn't make it look like a costume.

Go outside more. Or go for the feudal lord look instead.
>can't grow facial hair
Not all samurais had facial hair. I would say most didn't, unless they were ronin like pic in op.

>you can't because the outfits is from another era
That's why I'm putting a modern twist to it. It's the same thing with other styles, like cowboy one.

Harem pants or other baggy and loose fabric equivalent, oversized T shirt to keep it a little bit less larpy, alternatively a shirt with a mandarin collar, the idea is to keep the samurai silhouette so wide bottom and nothing around the neck (no hoodies or collars).
To bo quite honest i don't think you can base an entire fit solely on a samurai aesthetic, you'd have to pair it with something else, let it be an influence rather than the focal point, otherwise it's either gonna fall flat or be a larp

I think this kind of look can be achieved without looking autistic.
Get a noragi jecket (like pic related) it's the Blue Blue Japan Black Sashiko Farmer Coat.
Pair it with some Yohji Culotte or Balloon Pants (a sub label of Yohji called S'yte has them for decent prices).
You would definitely stand out, but that's a given if you're actually trying to dress in this sort of way.

blue blue japan might be an interesting brand if you're into that kind of thing, it's mid-expensive tier priced. casual baggy japanese clothing and a limited color palette (blue, navy, brown, white, black, maybe grey) could make it happen if it fits well and the clothing hangs nicely. sandals, maybe suicokes, would probably be the best footwear for the look but it's winter and it'd probably be too cold so you'll probably have to settle for plain minimalist footwear like white sneakers or black boots. as for personal styling, a long beard or long hair would probably ruin the look as you'd either look like a weeaboo or a hippy respectively, but anything else would probably be fine

Working from this. Full samurai would look very out of place, and people would probably avoid you, but this is as close as you could get whilst still looking socially acceptable. Sneakers would ruin the outfit and would mesh horribly with the look, and regardless of how "japanesy" they look, it'd be counterproductive to wear modern sneakers if you're going for edo period japan.

Fuji Mae keikogi for 50 bucks, remove the Fuji Mae label.
Any pants that have a wide cut (but do fit on your waist), try rougher fabrics, not joggings pants. Jeans will do, cut depends on your build. Try it on with your new jacket and find what works.
Everything else is optional and you should find it in your closet or just put a basic piece in there to complete the fit. Go only for solids or patterns, no graphics. Don't bother with sandals, they are not really comfy and they look significantly more tryhard than the other part of the look.

That's if you need to buy new pants. You could get them cheaper by thrifting or just have correct jeans laying around. The only crucial part is to drop 50 on the gi. I'm only mentioning pants because he's considering jumping headfirst into a new style because he self describes as having no style.
And that's a good price all things considered. If you go too low, you're gonna loose more money than you save as the shitty piece rips at the seams after 3 days.
But ofc if extreme tight belt budget means under 60 for a whole outfit you either need to reconsider that clothes should be bought over longer cycles or you should shop at goodwill.

>>15716722
my answer to this is 1) like others have said - an idgaf attitude and carrying yourself in a realaxed but authoritative way. I think long hair and being in shape will probably help a lot. 2) big shirt and pants. I dont think you need to go super big, but it wouldnt hurt. I think maintaining some sort of defined waist is important to match the silhouette. Material is also important - you want fabrics that are somewhat substantial but also move easily and drape well. I think a good way to start would be big canvas pants with a tie waist and some osrt of jacket or cardigan with big sleeves. You want the sleeves and pants to be slightly cropped and quite big.

>>15718650
