There's a bright side: by having a generic movement, is going to be much easier to service/find parts in the future.
Rule of thumb I agree that in-house is better, but now everybody trying to do in-house, if these companies die or refuse to services watches with a certain age? is going to be a pain in the ass servicing them down the line....

True. I doubt JLC will be dying anytime soon though

Come back in a few more months when you regret your 10k watch as well.

People make this mistake all the time. I always cringe when I see someone buy a Junghans when they can buy Nomos for roughly the same price. Live and learn

Obviously with those classic companies like jlc you are safe.
I was talking about this idea of "in house always better", in the world of cheap/mid tier watches you can end up with a brick in the future. Paying someone to custom build a part or finding the parts can easily get more expensive than the value of the watch.

Can you give an example of a brand that does this in the range you’re talking about? I agree in theory but can’t think of any smaller brands that actually make their own movements. One could argue Nomos fits the category based on price, but they’re extremely successful and I doubt they’ll be going out of business any time soon.

When I first got to /fa/ I was obsessed with watches ~2008. And thought that dressing well meant business casual.

I was buying vintage watches and shit and took cringe pictures like this

Honestly. These days a $100 smart watch has more technology and development in it than a credor

It's about the craftsmanship, not what videogames you can play on it.

shut up retard, I get more value out of a casio watch than some faggot core 40k watch. Now, if I see someone wearing one, I openly mock them in public, especially when I can kick the shit out them anyway

I can talk into my wrist, from anywhere in the world. And a few seconds later my 3d printers back home will instantly turn on and start making things. (This took a lot of setup and skill but it's a thing now)

I can turn my lights on to my southern california home in Japan with my watch.

I can turn on my xbox with my way h anywhere in the world and tell it to download shit.

Also my smart watch can show me all the security cameras in both of my homes. Including every webcam aimed at each 3d printer to monitor prints anywhere in the world + make a little bit of money from the 24/7 live streams that people donate to to watch of them printing.

As well as earne store credit and cryptocurrency for every step I take.

Also monitors my heartrate and syncs with the power meter on my bicycle....

I like Nomos but some look too "modern"

yessssss plug more and more of your home appliances into the machine, give it even more of your personnal info, the companies managing all of that are totally reliable and would never do anything with that data

Junghans does have some nice looking watches. It’s just foolish to pay ~$1000 for one. The rule of thumb is that you will pay around $3k for a decent watch with Nomos as the exception wherein you can get a basic Club for $1500.
