Ok so there is some stuff you're gonna have to accept as a bassist

>nobody is going to notice your playing outside of a handful of fills
>if you don't have good speakers, a sound system with subwoofers, or high end headphones, you wont hear the bass at all (don't listen to bass through a phone dipshit)

Once you can wrap your head around that, its a very relaxing and intuitive instrument to play. Writing a good bass lick isnt nessecairly playing the most notes the fastest (ignore Instagram wankery), it's about sitting right in the mix, sculpting your tone, learning the circle of fifths, understanding counter melodies, ghost notes, and just feeling the music. A good baseline brings a song to life, eiher live or through good speakers (again you're stupid and gay if you're trying to hear bass on a phone's speakers). Once you learn the basic scales and how to "feel" a groove you can have hours of fun just jamming along to DNB tracks, drum loops, punk songs, etc etc. Highly recommended IF you dont need to be the center of attention.

Yeh. I'd say most amateur bassists began with guitar and switched over out of necessity while in a band. Start with guitar and learn the fretboard nut to bridge. Bass is easier to learn, but not better to start with. If you learn chord construction on a guitar, making basslines becomes much more intuitive
