Terra Mia, Keronese Follow, Piotr Czarnecki Shihan, Muglers and Killians all smell not like freshly ground coffee but some faggy sweet spicy lattes with a big dose of flavored syrup added to it. Do you know any scent that would really smell like coffee not this weird mix of vanilla, tonka bean and some faint coffee aroma? The closest smell to real coffee was an attar Mukhallat Corleone by Abdul Karim Al Faransi but the citruses there ruined it for me. Do your thing /frag/ and recommend me some *real* coffee scent.

There’s no such thing. If you’re doing well financially, fragrances give you great pleasure, you understand they’re a luxury and don’t feel you’re buying them out of compulsion there’s no problem. I stopped buying full bottles when I had around 30 and now spend my money on sampling.

People spend far more on cigarettes and things than I do on fragrances so why can’t I enjoy myself?

As long as it’s not causing any problems in your life, you do you. Even 1 or 2 bottles can be too much if you’re poor and are in danger of not being able to pay rent. If you’re a millionaire or something who won’t even feel a few hundred bucks coming out of your bank account, no real reason not to have a huge collection if you enjoy it.

Basically, it’s like all things: as long as it’s not negatively affecting your life, it’s not a problem.

How heavy is this on sandalwood? I adore the smell of sandalwood in things like shaving cream, but would this be a perfume equivalent or is it more well-rounded with other notes? I don’t blind buy fragrances, but this seems to be regarded as one of the best sandalwoods around, especially for the price.

>> No.15700562

>>15700550
It's quite heavy on sandalwood but it's not a sandalwood soliflore so to speak. I'd say that sandalwood, vanilla, lemon and spices are the most prominent notes in this order and the rest of the notes (that I can't really distinguish properly but I reckon there is leather, patch and some flowers there) form a darker-floral counterpart balancing it out. You can notice all these notes including sandalwood if you know what are you looking for while smelling it but otherwise it's quite abstract and blended very smoothly.

>> No.15700583

>>15700562
Thanks. I might try and sample it then, it sounds more complex than I expected. I was thinking that maybe it’s just pure sandalwood and it would be a good one for a dumb reach when I just want to smell of “something”.

Do you like Chanel Egoiste? This is a good point of reference for Trumper's Sandalwood. It's like implementing the same platonic idea of a spicy-woody fragrance with zesty lemon top in two different ways. Dandy, heavier and spicier French one (Egoiste) and simpler, more airy, British way (Sandalwood). They're not identical (nor very similar) but liking one is a good litmus paper test for liking the other.
However, for sure I can tell you that it's not just pure sandalwood.

Typically there are 50+ ingredients going into a fragrance with 5-10 notes. yes I have all of the glassware and pipettes. I was joking about slumberhouse, I really just want to make some cozy minimalist fragrances (ginger + iris accord + iso for example). once I feel like I can get the hang of proportions, then I'll start incorporating actual naturals and interesting ingredients.
thanks for the links. I'll check em out.

This. If you’re just going into a store a few times a week and buying random shit, yeah, that’s not a hobby. But if you’re spending hours reading articles, watching videos, chatting with other people on message boards about frags, going to stores to sample ones you’re interested in, ordering sample kits, learning about different notes and accords, learning about the science of perfumery, etc... then yeah, that’s a hobby.

Coomers just looking for panty dropper juice aren’t hobbyists. The people who post here regularly are. And yeah, the notion that we’re all autists sitting in a dark basement huffing Civet oil or some shit is obviously fallacious.

If it can be citrusy oriental then Memo Winter Palace, 4160 Tuesdays Freeway are fucking great (the latter has tobacco but it's done in absolutely brilliant summery way).
Otherwise you know it's hard to find a summery fragrance in general if you don't want citruses or aquatic notes. Probably you can go into white florals or some abstract aldehydic way (e.g. Craft by Andrea Maack). For the first one try Sir Gallahad Isabey that's the most beautiful gardenia 100% masculine fragrance that I know. It's very sensual and apt for date nights. It has an oriental undertones thanks to gorgeous ambery-tobacco accord. Very gentlemany stuff that I'm considering wearing for my wedding in future.

If you want a new zesty cologne try one of the classic Guerlains. Eau de Guerlain and Cologne Imperiale are one of the best colognes in existence and completely gone after 30-60m (Eau de Guerlain lasts a bit longer), so you don't have to worry about conflicting scents. If you want some more unique cologne try the pic related from Bravanariz. It's made all from natural ingredients and you will smell like a pine forest. Beautiful Eau de Cologne.

do you know anything about Intense Velvet Rose & Oud by Jo Malone? did my bit of research on fragrantica and it seems to be what i've been looking for. Maybe i didn't formulate what i said well, I want to stray away from zesty smells for something more woody, spicy. I use cologne after shaving anyway, since the high alcohol content sterilizes.
As for perfumes I'm still conflicted about picking in between Jaipur Homme and Chypre Palatin. Both have fragrantica descriptors that wouldn't be in conflict with the cologne. I don't really know much about perfumes, I've been using Bleu de Chanel for years but feel it's time for a change

My samples came in, I sprayed DS&Durga Bowmakers and am positively surprised. It smells like I wanted Olympic Orchids Woodcut to smell like. Quite realistic woods (I reckon Woodcut is better quality though) to the extent that you smell like a furniture shop without any additions (I disliked the caramel note taking over Woodcut). Quite snice stuff. Is it worth price? No, like most of DS Durgas. I got 3 free samples including their Amber Teutonic, so looking forward to test it. Another free sample was Belle Bete Les Liquides Imaginaires that hastily let my girlfriend spray herself with because of my poor french thinking it means 'soft beauty'. Whereas it's the most disgusting animalic fragrance I ever tried (and I am quite fond of Kouros and tried things like Musc Koublai Khan). It literally smells like some unwashed nerd with greasy hair on public transport till you don't take big enough sniff and get something more 'perfumey' going underneath. I told her to take a shower already lol.

Try Xerjoff Alexandria II man. They are clearly playing in the very same genre but XJ is imo better. You can get an official sample set from XJ website for more or less the price of the OJ sample set you bought. Any other favorites among new OJs? I frankly liked some but nothing blew me out of water.

Re: masculine roses.
You probably should try some classic Oud+Rose combos: I'd suggest Oud Palao and Montale Black Aoud to start with. Then try Malle's POAL - it doesn't have Oud but the dark patchouli there is really convincing. Floris No 89 is completely different - british, gentlemany fresh rose. The new Amouage Crimson Rock is also a solid soft rose for men who are afraid of rose. It's served with honeyed woods and spices that wrap you in a warm cozy blanket.

Could try The Vagabond Prince’s Enchanted Forest. Very strange, interesting scent, maybe not exactly what you want but sort of fits the vibe. It’s inspired by Slavic folklore, it’s supposed to smell like riding a sleigh through an icy Russian forest in winter. Very cold smelling, lots of coniferous notes, but layered on top of that is a sharp black current and sweet berries and red wine. Very cool stuff, very high quality, and I’d call it quite unisex.

I sprayed it after the shower. It's a very pleasant balsamic fragrance with velvety, almost creamy, vanillic woods and spices with a lot of brightness to it.
