As someone who wears it for work purposes as a geologist for a civil engineering firm it is deeply perplexing to me. Most of the construction workers and drillers I work with make fun of people who clearly don't work with their hands but still wear it. The jackets are pretty durable but I don't wear any of it when I'm not going to a job site.

Regular Carhartt is effay and personifying a blue collar worker, though embracing a tasteful color palette, is god-like. There are so many individual facets between ethnicity and even eyebrow prowess necessary to perfectly pull it off without any compromise. It becomes a personal, and then soon, you're actually blue collar.

Carhartt WIP, on the other hand, is the same exact shit except it was penciled on by some has-been collaborator and spending nothing greater on fabric despite the drastic difference in cost.

Either way, you're an utter faggot for thinking that people outside of this miniscule sample of the population actually care.

I got the golden brown jacket from Goodwill. I really liked the quality, but I ended up not liking the color. It later got improved with a professional dye bath, which turned it into a rich hunter green color. The threading was also dyed green. I finally gave it a wax treatment. Thanks for reading my blog

I did everything myself with a reactive fiber dye, like Procion MX dye. Procion MX dye is considered the professional standard of dying. It is more durable, colorfast, and more vivid than RIT or Dylon in all respects.
>washed jacket with neutral detergent and hot water, Dr. Bronners soap works best
>mixed dark teal, black, and forest green Procion MX dyes for the hunter green color, used a separate container
>used oil based fabric marker to color the threading green, using a heat gun to set in the color and ensure color retention
>a second thread treatment is always good
>soaked jacket in washing soda (not baking soda) bath with hot water, for 20 minutes
>added dye in bucket, plus non-iodized salt, and then mixed continuously for 45 minutes
>removed jacket, disposed of dye in toilet, and thoroughly rinsed jacket with cold water
>all excess dye needs to be washed off in cold water
>an additional soak with Dr Bronners soap and cold water works well
>washed jacket alone with cold water, low tumble
>hang dry jacket
>once completely dried, used Fjallraven canvas wax and a heat gun to waterproof the jacket
It’s a process, but it improved the jacket. I also removed the logos. It’s far better than the golden brown stock look. I’ll post a picture when I feel like it

Ugh. Please don't. If it gets popular for fashion, everyone's gonna buy it, and build quality is gonna eventually suffer. All brands known for durability cheap out and get fucking awful after they get popular. Carhartt's already on their way.
This isn't one of those, "You can't wear this if you can't fucking WELD," posts, but just look at the clothes you have that were from formerly-reputable companies that are now fucking cheap-ass garbage.

I’ll post a pic tomorrow night if this thread is still up. The collar didn’t pick up the dye, not even with two dye treatments. I forgot to mention that Procion Mx dye works only on organic fibers like cotton or wool. The collar was made of a synthetic blend, which repels the dye.

I've been using procion Mc dye but I get very mixed results. As we speak I have a milsurp swiss army jacket in a black dye bath; i'm gonna leave it for 2 days just in case but the previous attempts I usually get something halfway between 'overdye' look and an actual colour change.

Here we go. Mind you, I suck at photography, so the lighting looks harsh. Despite my best efforts at coloring the threading, I couldn’t make them truly green. However, my oil based colorant and heat treatment did alter the golden threading somewhat. It’s hard to see in the photos, but the color is in between a gold and green. It blends in quite nicely in person. Everything else is colorfast, going through several cold water soaks and two additional cold water machine tumble washes.

I’d post a fit pic, but I’m too lazy for that. Thanks for reading my blog post

work wear is just their "brand identity" or whatever. you're not supposed to actually work in 98% of their clothes. I think they have a separate line for that which accounts for ca. 0.1% of their revenue.

it's ok, anon. just wear whatever the fuck you want. you can wear denim even if you're not working in a coal mine. you can wear a military parka even if you're not in the military. and you can wear sneakers, even if your life style doesn't require you to sneak around a lot.
