You know, I sometimes forget that none of us are six foot five inches tall, Greek god framed and built, and make $1million a year. Try this instead. That shirt would go well with classy pants or maybe nice jeans and nice black shoes. Some accessories like a watch and stuff would really add to the look depending on the setting

What I'm seeing in this thread is really just grayscale stuff. Is including something more colorful (not necessarily bright or saturated) with a black top hard to pull off, or is this just the most obvious combo?

In terms of suits you can actually wear a black shirt with virtually any colour, as long as the quality and fit of them are good it will look nice. Not usually nicer than other colours of shirts would, but more interesting perhaps. Outside of the typical black and greys, it also works particularly well with reds and browns. Think burgundy velvet suit, or tan linen. Skip the tie and have a black pocket square instead.

Outside of suits it's hard to come up with nice ways to incorporate or let alone dress around a black shirt. You can layer it into gothninja-esque fits pretty well, but that's kinda cheating the challenge because it just ends up another black layer hidden under stuff conventional to the respective style. Monochrome is still the best way to go about it however, and if the ninja stuff is too out-there for you, you can also layer it more conservatively, such as under a black V-neck pullover, maybe a nice knit to contrast the shirt texturally, shirt unbuttoned to reveal skin.

It can work with white, ideas being white jeans or slacks, particularly as a linen shirt, obviously with black shoes and potentially belt, perhaps tucked. Or under a white pullover, then probably with black pants however, white shoes then being a possibility.

I don't see good ways to bring brighter colours into it, but you can wear the shirt open, and then try and play with the colours of whatever you wear under it.
