The explorer and the bb are great watches and extremely solid picks. I love the geneve and the penis but neither of them are the versions I'd personally choose. Full lume divers are really cool but the two tone is a bit much.

No I do not agree. All that matters is the proportions of the watch on someones wrist. Diameter alone isn't even a good indicator. Lug-to-lug length, are the lugs curved or not, how does the bracelet fit etc. So many factors go into the how a watch looks and wears.

Rolexes appearing in movies and such because they were good, reliable tool watches at the time gave the name some traction. The floodgates opened once bling-era hip hop reared its ugly head and Rolex understood they could charge you 15k for the freshest innovation of 1956 and get away with it.

Can you Rolex fanboys shut the fuck up with your historical revisionism? Hans Wilsdorf was a marketer, not a watchmaker. Rolex was, from the very beginning, sold through hype and they were snatching up celebrity endorsements before it became illegal to discriminate against negroes.
The whole reason that "OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER" text appears on Rolex dials to this day is because Wilsdorf got the certifications, at a time when no other watch bothered to get them because those certifications were for big ass tabletop clocks. He got them purely to put advertisement on the dial.

For a non-meme answer, the real problem is that every mechanical watch has some kind of shock protection now, meaning that being a neat tool watch is pointless. The main things they have are high production compared to others, some of the best bracelets out there, and movements touted to have a service life of 10 years which is double what other manufacturers claim. I would certainly not turn down a rolex, but if I want a "tool" watch in mechanical form I'd go for Sinn, Bremont, or Damasko which use some form of case hardening.

I guess versatile and outdoorsy, I have a vintage watch that I use at the rare situations I need to be dressed up a bit because I never wear suits or something similar unless I'm at a wedding, I'm more of a casual wear, jeans, some sneakers/brown leather boots, and t-shirt/shirt with sweater/pullover.And the outdoorsy because here the hiking culture is strong, many people wear hiking clothes/goretex boots/shoes on their daily life, even old people.

Dressy for the most part.
I have a really hard time justifying extra costs for complications I know I'll never use. Realistically, I don't have any use for a chronograph, nor have I really met a situation where I would wish I had one at hand. Main "complication" I find myself using are timing bezels, which aren't even complications.
I have a Vostok when going out and doing the outdoorsy stuff and I haven't felt the need for anything more since I learned how to use a watch as a compass.

Get an entry-level G-Shock if all you want is something that tells the time and won't die if you drop it in several puddles.

It is but it's all stuff you can probably do already if you have some outdoors gear.
So if you want to pack everything into the watch, look into the Mudman line and be ready to get confused at the controls and find yourself not using half of it because you forgot what order to do things in to get what you want and you don't carry the instruction booklet with you, or look for a more simple G-Shock that will be just as sturdy, cost a fourth of the price and has fewer gimmicks.

It's a Seiko 5 and there is no point to servicing it. You can source a movement yourself. I don't know if 4R36 movements will go in it since those use a 7S26, but it probably will. They cost 40 bucks. You can probably haggle a watchmaker to pop it in for you for 20 if you don't want to do it yourself. That's 60 to upgrade the watch. Servicing it would probably cost 80-100 and they might just change out the movement anyway.

For vintage automatic, I'd say 5646 if it didn't have the annoying breaking quickset problem. So instead probably 5246. Both are slimmer and much more elegant in design than the high-end models of the 61 series. For vintage hand wind, the 4502.
