Any suggestions for casual black boots for women?

I generally just wear black jeans and flannels, nothing special. I'm thinking of getting some kind of black Doc that goes about a 1/4 up the calf. I'm not sure if they'd look like clown shoes on shorter people though, I've never owned a pair.

Buy a pair of black combat boots, there's a few sites where you can get european military paratrooper boots that are nice and probably under 70 dollars, save that go on ebay and look for used paratrooper boots. What you want to look for is a nice thick sole and a shape you like. As for shine, many used ones may not be as shiny as you'd like due to age, go to a store and find shoe polish specifically for black leather and use it every 6 months or so depending on wear

Hi friends, looking for some boot advice. I'm looking for a very solid fall-winter-spring boot that doesn't look silly. I have some nice Sorels for winter (which are extremely functional), but they look very unfashionable and don't work at all for fall or spring.

For context, I live in northern Ontario along the Québec border, and it gets very cold and snowy in the winters.

I generally trend towards a folky-knit-vintage military surplus kinda style, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know. I've heard that old military hiking boots would work well for me, but I'd like to see if anyone more knowledgeable about footwear would have an opinion. Thanks :)

I've always wanted pic related and finally got a 16eye pair and regret it
I also don't know why I thought they'd have a steel toe and they don't
They are indeed clown shoes and although it wouldn't look so bad on anyone else, I am skeleton and I just feel like I'm clunking around everywhere
Can someone pls rec something with a smaller toe profile? in a similar price range
I'm willing to spend a bit more, especially if made in a western country

Varying shades of brown, including reddish browns, and particularly work and service boots (mostly because they acquire patina that gets highlighted in contrast to the jeans). Dress boots don't look that good with jeans, usually.

Grey boots also work, but they're kind of an odd look in my opinion.

It's been several years since Truman started and they really seem to have got their shit together. They were rough back in the day as they were a new small operation and their owner had absolutely no customer service skills and basic used to blame the costumer when his crew fucked up. Now that they're bigger and can handle things, they seem to be a lot better.
Anyone here have any experience with them recently? Their leathers are probably the most interesting of any brand out there.

yeah definitely. put a foot insole and wear it with thick socks and you're good to go. i usually wear 45 and i bought a 46 size years ago. i think they are pretty narrow and stiff.

btw, can anyone recommend me some good brands for brown boots? preferably dark brown. i have a pair of austrian paramemes and i look like a colombian paramilitary soldier all the time no matter what jeans i wear.

You only really need a conditioning shoe cream, it will typically contain oils to nourish the leather and other stuff like waxes to enrich the colour and make them shine. You could also look for one that additionally provides water repellence, though that is not necessary if you don't often wear them in rain and give them time to dry, plus the shine already creates some barrier. There's polishing creams too, that contain harder waxes and are used to create a high shine, but with boots you won't really want that.

Shoe creams come in neutral and coloured varieties and can also be used to modify the colour and patina of a shoe, though you probably won't want to do that yet. Get black shoe cream for the black pair, and neutral for oxblood.

For cleaning them there's saddle soap, but unless you are cleaning them often, it'll not hurt them to just use a bit of regular soap - if you even need that, a damp cloth is usually enough to get off whatever a brush didn't.

You want two brushes, one for rough cleaning, one for polishing. The cleaning one can be much of anything, polishing brushes usually use animal hair.

Shoe trees are good to have, as they help the shoe dry and combat wrinkles. Alternatively stuff paper into the shoe.

I usually apply shoe cream with my bare fingers, but a cloth is still good to have as it can also be used to buff the shoe to finish off the polish after brushing.

Leather is usually pretty durable and will live a long time even with minimal care, unless it is being terribly abused. What usually gives way first is the sole or sole construction. You'll have to make do with glue for that, or pay for a cobbler to deal with it. You can install/have a cobbler install tip and heel protectors, they come in metal, rubber or plastic and make sure the places that see most wear on the sole see little to no wear (you just replace the protectors once they're through). For the heel you want to go with rubber protectors.
