This is one of the better anime tie-ins though. Watches are very mechanical, it's an iconic Japanese company doing a collab with an iconic Japanese franchise, and the watches look pretty thoughtfully done although the Char's Zaku version is a bit uninspired and maybe they could have used a pink shade of lume for the lollipop seconds hand to better represent the mono-eye.

A lot of people say I'm a Gundam nerd so I guess I'll try to explain it.
Gundam was created by an autistic anti-war guy named Yoshiyuki Tomino and it was kind of a subversion of the dominant style of robot anime at the time. At the time robot anime was basically like The Iron Giant. The robot was usually separate, usually had its own intelligence, and it was usually incredibly strong to an almost magical and indestructible degree. Mazinger changed the formula a bit by having the robot directly piloted but Gundam took it a step further by having the robots be at a "realistic" level of strength and changing them so that they were a suit encasing the pilot so it's really just a glorified tank/plane. This was to take out the superhero aspect of robot anime and make it more about the human pilots than the robots themselves. Then he also showed that the bad guys were just normal people on the other side of a war rather than super evil hell demons and shit so you had the evil side, Zeon, being shown with their families, having dreams and talking about normal things like fishing. It was meant to show that war is not about good and evil and war is awful and traumatic. Of course Tomino fucked up by making too many cool robots so the franchise became totally merchandise-driven around cool robots blowing shit up in an epic way and having Zeon be literal space Nazis with one of the leaders openly admiring Hitler and then gassing people and weaponizing asteroids. Also there's this concept of Newtypes where being in space makes you so autistic you develop literal autistic psychic superpowers and it's the next step of human evolution in response to space conflict or whatever.
The original series didn't do well at first but picked up interest in syndication and when compilation movies were released and it took off. There are many series, some that take place in the same universe as the original one (UC) and some that take place in alternate realities (AU)

...But all the series share certain themes and tropes like a masked rival, a mid-season upgrade, usually some form of Newtypes, etc.
Half of Gundam is pretty much junk but some of it is good. It's literally boomercore because zoomers don't think giant robots are cool so most Gundam merchandise buyers are 30 year old boomers who are really into the mechanics of either the robots or the model kits (kind of like watch autists)

That watch you posted is a watch made in 2020 that has the same if not worse specs than watches actually made in the 70s. Try to find images of the backlight, literally shittier than Casio F91W LEDs and then placed in the wrong position so you can't even use it to read the time. It's a total joke.
