How to pull off casual waistcoats?

not

Wear under knit jackets. Or leather jacket, but that's pushing it.

Here is the thing anon. When you wear a waistcoat in a casual environment you come across as too serious and too smart. Waistcoats can only be worn casually when the dress style is already smart. This way you're dressing down your smart outfit to be smart casual instead of dressing up your casual outfit to be casual smart (cringe).

It also largely depends on your age and statues. If you're a 20 something, don't think about it. If you're 40+ you'll look suave af.

Unbutton it. Seriously, works wonders. I've always been ambivalent about them and I think they only look good buttoned-up when worn under a jacket.

Age doesn't matter at all, that is an even bigger meme than race mattering in fashion. It has no effect whatsoever. It's just a perception you have because you see those garments as slightly old-fashioned, it has nothing to do with the actual look of the clothes at all.

Age and race very much do matter. If you're 60 dressing like a 9 year old or 9 dressing like a 60 year old you'll look odd

Race matters more for colour combinations. Having black or white skin means different colours may look better on you. Of course you can work around it but for the most part it's true.

>age doesnt matter at all
If I see an 18 year old in a suit and coat on his way to the school bus Im gonna laugh at him
If I see a 65 year old man wearing a thrasher tee and doc martens im also going to laugh.
Not mockingly but more laughing at the fact that theyre so out of place. In no way malicious. Skater Grandpa and Young Reviewbrah can wear whatever they want. But there is no denying that age is a very big factor in what you can and cant wear anon.

You're not even saying anything that contradicted me. I'm well aware there are social norms that dictate how you should look, I was just telling the guy I replied to that they don't matter. I only care if the outfit itself looks good.

Are you saying age doesn’t matter in regard to how you dress?? that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard bc
It absolutely does. Wait until you’re past 25 or 30 and see if you can even imagine wearing teenager shit. Omg age is a huge factor in dressing. And hopefully when you’re old enough you’ll just wear more classic shit that is timeless.

The stuff contemporary teens wear just looks awful no matter what age you are.

it's an undergarment, same as a shirt. But shirts developed to regular clothing.
Waistcoats did not make this transition. So wear it with something over it. Otherwise it will look off.
