I feel like this was something that was supposed to happen a few years ago, but it had not taken off much as a fashion, for some reasons. I suppose most women are too used to their comparatively flat post-1990s hairstyles.

These. Was scene at the time: my hair was huge. But yeah, the big hair never really moved beyond scene and on into the mainstream like one would've expected. Shame really, floofy hair is great. I was hoping that the current trad goth revival would bring it out again into the mainstream, but even that's fizzling now, so I doubt it.

Yes, it will anon.

Just give it time, society is just now realizing how boring we have become. drab colors of black, grey, and beige. This includes have flat, straight, kinda wavey hair it's incredibly boring and been done before. I'm personally sick of seeing it.

We're just waiting for another resurgence of experimental wave fashion to come through, to revive the trend of big hair. Will it be as big as hair was in the 80s? probably not. But any step toward a different and individual style, is good a step for the future of fashion.

Because right now the fashion industry is stuck in the same loop of using the things over and over again. Nothing feels fresh and "new" per-say.

Thoughts?

Maybe a little, but generally; clothing is cyclical, hair not as much.

This applies to women more than men for some reason. But with the exception of a few outliers, women rarely adopt period vintage hairstyles. If 80s hair were to have taken off, it would have been years ago when the 80s revival was in full swing.

My theory for why this happens has to do with men losing their hair, whereas women don't. Women will often keep the same hairstyle from their youth, far into old age. Men on the other hand, lose their hair, resulting in shorter styles later in life and enough time passing in-between for a genuine resurgence of a particular hairstyle among a younger generation.

Dated men's hairstyles are associated with youth... while dated Women's hairstyles are associated with that old lady down the street.

You'll note this in media as well. One of the things that gave Stranger Things characters a stand out appearance was 100% period correct hairstyles and makeup. Typically, media will get clothing correct... but maintain a semblance of modern chic when it comes to hair and makeup... they need their female characters to maintain a level of sex appeal that's rarely achieved when going full blown period. By altering hair and makeup with more modern notions of beauty, you increase the sex appeal and convey social status of the characters considerably easier to younger viewers.
