If summer scents are for the summer (obv) does wearing them out of season some how noticeable to others even on a subtle level?

Wearing very heavy winter fragrances is bad just because they can get overwhelming or cloying, but worst case wearing "summer" perfumes in winter is just that no one would smell it on you because it doesn't project much in the cold.
Normal people doesn't think "oh that is a summer perfume that he is wearing" anyway, as long as it smells good

Also science proves that women get the horniest for men who are genetically different from them so that makes sense with the blonde thing. Girls are turned on just by the body odor of foreign men when they are ovulating because their body wants to get impregnated. Just received my Wafts EdP. First impression is a tart and balsamic white desert wine. I also have the impression of honey and sometimes get hints of the old wood in churches. I don’t get any green or garden notes and miss incense as well.

I’m not really impressed by it so far. To be fair I guess it will need some months to reach maturity and I noticed significant improvement from the second application 1 hour later.

I‘m excited to see how it will develop, but at the moment I’d say you didn’t miss anything if you didn’t participate in the kickstarter.

Man I wish I knew that much about whiskey.
Mediocre that commoners think is quality is basically any designer that is a bit more expensive, such as Prada, but also the way more expensive such as Tom Ford. Not to say that those brands can't do anything that smells good or only have bad compositions, I love some of them, but commoners honestly believe that Tom Ford is full of natural ingredients etc. which is just not true.
Also brands like Creed and Parfum de Marly are seen as the holy grail by common people, but people who are more into fragrances know that it's just a step above designer but there are soooo much better things out there

Speaking of whisky though, you have to try Profumum Roma Fumidus if you can find it somewhere. It honestly smells exactly like a smoky malt whisky

Not the guy you replied to but what about Oud Fleur? Is that a mediocre TF scent? Only ones I've tried are Noir, Noir Extreme, Mandarino di Amalfi and Oud Minerale. I liked them all but they are a touch overpriced for what you get, especially the blue bottle/private blends.

Haven't tried oud fleur no, but yeah that's what I meant, I don't have anything against synthetic and designer scents and such, but like you say, a lot of TF prices are ridiculous. Compare for example TF Grey Vetiver and Guerlain Vetiver, where they have basically the same quality (the guerlain might even be better) but the TF is double the price.

That's not to say TF does bad fragrances! I LOVE Noir de Noir for example.

this is a genuine question, I have owned a few brand name fragrances by Hermes and Armani and tried a friend's Chanel, and I don't see how they're any better than cheap fragrances that go for a fraction of the price as long as you can find one that has the notes you like and the projection you want, rather they just seem one of the many comparable options, though they allow you to honestly answer that you're wearing a relatively expensive fragrance if anyone asks

Your brain is so smooth to not understand the how fragrance works. Maybe if you read what I'm about to say slowly it can finally get through your dumb thick skull. You're able to detect fragrance when it evaporates from your skin and your nose detects the molecules. Just like water (a chemical molecule), if you spread water out, it will evaporate much faster than if the water was a small puddle. Spreading it out = more intensity but shorter duration. There is more intensity because more of the molecules are evaporating.

Spraying in a puddle will allow less of the total amount to evaporate at the same time which will result in a less intense but longer lasting experience. There is no "rule". Just up to which experience you prefer.

LOL trusting what a pajeet has to say about French perfumery.

“Generally, when perfumes come in twos and threes, only one really works, and Dior Homme’s three colognes are no exception. They are all competent and luxurious, but only Eau Noire, composed by Francis Kurkdjian, stops you in your tracks. Eau Noire is the first fragrance since Annick Goutal’s amazing Sables to make overt use of helichrysum (immortelle), an odd, fenugreek-like smell halfway between curry and burnt sugar. The difficulty with immortelle is that it tends to take over the party with its big contralto voice. Goutal had set it in an oriental context, but Kurkdjian takes a different tack and goes for lavender. This fits nicely with a mental picture of sun-roasted garrigue, where both smells frequently coexist. Natural, warm, and comfortable, this is a very good neoclassical fragrance and much more than a cologne. LT”

I've finished some of samples I was writing about couple threads back, so short recs:
>Trumpers Sandalwood
Elegant sandalwood+lemonpie fragrance. For some reason it fires the same neurons in my mind as Nicolai's NYI despite not having much but citruses and lavender in common. Classy, quiet confidence type of fragrance that anyway have something playfully youthful about it. This is what I expected Habit Rouge to smell like based on notes breakdown but unlike Guerlain it thankfully smells modern. I'm frankly blown away by how good it is for its price and my gf loves it the most out of the lot of 14 samples I bought. Also the performance is amazing given that it is sold as EdC, I still could smell it faintly after 8h of sleep. It's a perfect choice for work and formal/semi-formal ocassions. Gonna buy a full bottle.
>Piotr Czarnecki Kiviskin
Disgusting. Smells like immortelle and vegetables.
>The Different Company De Bachmakov
Brilliant green-aromatic perfume. The way it uses shiso makes it conceptually similar to Tom Yum by Prissana, both using oriental cuisine herbs and spices inspirations for making unusual fresh fragrances. Shiso here has this interesting scent profile where one time I get mint and on another sniff I get freshly cut grass. All of that is served on a fruity (fig+citruses)-woody background. Very compelling warm weather fragrance for everyone who wants to look beyond standard combinations of citrusforward and aquatic notes in summer perfumes. I might cop a bottle for the Spring/Summer next year.
>Olympic Orchids Woodcut
Amazing bitter-herbal (pine?) opening together with some smokiness coming out shortly after (a bit akin to Profumum Roma Arso) but eventually it converges to smooth photorealistic woods (oak and cedar that smells a bit like sauna) and caramel accord. The woody-gourmand accord brings PG Aomassai 10 to mind. My gf liked it. It also won The Art + Olfaction award.

I don't really think it smells like black ink (compare it to silver CdG 2 has quite prominent black ink note). The aldyhede-like synthetic note that you're probably mistaking for black ink is the interplay between ISO E Super, cashmeran and vetiver.

>[The] price of a dinner for two with a decent bottle of wine in a decent restaurant [is] about the upper limit for me, so let’s say $120 or so for 100 ml of EdP or a half ounce of proper extrait. To my mind everything way above that, e.g. Lutens’ Section d’Or and a swelling host of others, are simply sad jokes perpetrated on sad sacks. And if anybody tells you that the exquisite raw materials upped the price, just laugh. LT
Andy Tauer's take:
>In perfumery, the regular model is: a coefficient of 4.5 to 5.5 goes to the distributor. This means: A product that is sold in stores for 135$ US: the distributor pays the producer 135$ divided by 5.0: 27$.
>Now let’s put this into perspective with production costs. (I use European prices here. You can source in China, too. I do so, too, but where feasible I try to source from here, Europe)
>A semiautomatically produced flacon, made in Europe, costs somewhere betweeen 3.5 $ and 6$ , not landed (meaning without transport and taxes), depending on how many you buy and where you buy them. If you happen to have a packaging that is not just a cheap cardboard box: Production costs in Europe are maybe 2-5 $.
>Then you need labels, pumps, caps: Add another 2-3 $.
>All buying prices above: No blingbling, not fancy gold decoration.
>Add whatever amount you want for the perfume.
>Then add work to the equation: Sourcing, scent production, dilution, filtration, bottle filling, crimping (fixing the pumps on the flacon), labelling, putting things into the packaging, cellophaning, and doing the paperwork like dealing with authorities, preparing shipping papers.
>And now you do the math.

So a bunch of sample fragrances I ordered came in to pick my daily and here’s what I think
>le male
Very unique sweet and pleasant. Idk why it’s marketed as a sexy fragrance tho, I mean I can get some subtle sexiness but I think this is just a fragrance that screams pleasant and inviting
>la nuit de l’homme
Very sophisticated and refined, would definitely wear as an office fragrance but doesn’t work well as a daily
>oud noir
Hated it. Smells like you went out drinking vodka all night
>Dylan blue
Really nice and safe. I’m pretty sure anyone will like it. My issue is that it’s really youthful, almost in a naive high schooler sense, something you would wear to prom or something. So while I would wear it it’s kinda too childish to be my daily
>pour homme
Very basic and safe. Honestly reminded me of an adidas cologne I bought at Ross when I was in middle school. I don’t think anyone would really care if you wore this
>the dreamer
Really nice scent that I loved. Definitely one of the most unique scents here. People say it smells like an old fashioned scent but I disagree, I think it gives off that mature and wise but very youthful and passionate at heart vibe. Would definitely wear as a daily
>Eros
Holy fucking shit I thought it was just a running gag on here about how Eros is an amazing fragrance while it is some tacky smelling fragrance or something. This shit smells so fucking sexy and amazing even as a guy I just want to stuff my face in it and huff it in. I love that it comes off as sexy and bold without being in your face about it but definitely makes itself known. Would wear this with more cheekier and I guess edgy outfits and I plan on using the dreamer for more refined and casual ones and maybe some pretty boy esque ones

It's good that you sampled first albeit most of these should readily available in most of mall pharmacies if they're open back in your city. Give all of these 2-3 full day wears (1ml should be enough for that), opening notes on paper blotters often don't tell you the whole story and you might like drydowns of some of these. I perceive some of these radically different than you but if you're a teenager or in (early) twenties all of these should work for you. In any case don't jump into buying a full bottle of any of these before finishing its sample.

You don't need to try so hard to fit in on a Vietnamese pangolin poaching forum. Be open-minded to try what people recommend and avoid the coomer-bait.

Thanks for the recommendations and advice anon, definitely gonna check those out. But yeah like you said fougere really should be my starting point since it does really set in with me well. The dreamer was nice because i liked the mature but youthful vibe like pic rel. le male just gave me this cafe vibe that I really liked and the fact that it smells versatile was a bonus. I think I’ll definitely get those two and check the fougere genre more

yeah no prob, senpai. I've been thinking of checking out Bois 1920 Spigo as well, and many people here recommend Penhaligon's Sartorial. I've never smelled it, but Duchaufour usually delivers. All of these sweet fougeres are pretty similar, so you just have to find the little twist in each that hits you right. Ironically, my dad's daily driver is le Male (even in 100F+ Florida heat, yuck), but I don't particularly like it since I find the vanilla/mint too overpowering compared to the Dreamer I'm used to. If price is an issue, there are other fragrances that can be signature scent worthy. If we're being honest 80-90% of designers are focused grouped to make sure they are versatile and appealing to the opposite sex. So just pick something that you also like smelling on yourself. For mainstream designer houses as long as it also smells good to you, you're good to go. Nobody hypes or talks about Fahrenheit 32, but my gf loves it on me. It is basically a cold, intoxicating, vanilla fragrance that has a masculine edge but can be androgynous. No point in considering it since it has been discontinued and resale is absurdly expensive since it mainly targets Fahrenheit or Dior collectors.

Although people compare Bleu de Chanel with Dior Homme 2020, they really start differentiating themselves from the dry down. Dior Homme 2020 has a more masculine feeling in the dry down that gives it a little bit of a bad boy edge. People who complain about longevity of DH2020 are idiots. I usually spray a test strip then I trap it underneath a cup when I'm analyzing the feeling of a fragrance. It helps me artificially stretch out the life of each phase of the scent to "slow down" the process.

Personally I'm not a fan of Eros (love the opening, hate how it is combined with that warm dry down), AdG Profumo (has the scratchy wood base that I'm sensitive towards), and Ultra Male (I have no complaints about the scent, it just doesn't match my not as party/playful demeanour). Eros for sure effective, but there are other effective fragrances too. I was walking around in a supermarket pre-covid and got caught girls whispering to themselves about what smells so good when I walked past them while I wore Eros. The minty fresh opening is killer, but too bad I don't like the dry down.

>i keep going from not caring about compliments to wanting to wear something for compliments, why am i like this. and this isnt a country where people randomly compliment people.
It isn't about actually receiving compliments from pure strangers. It is from enhancing positive responses from girls who are already into you. #1 rule is always be attractive. #2 rule is to smell good. Think of it as olfactory steroids that make you more attractive to people who are already attracted to you physically. I feel like someone's wardrobe can have a balance of scents worn primarily for themselves in the privacy of their own home as art, and scents used for seduction purposes...and everything in-between. Why limit yourself to just one category, why not have both in your wardrobe.

I think it is better to break apart the category that Eros occupies. It is a playful fresh and sweet fragrance with a masculine dry down. There are tons of fragrances that occupy this genre:

- Versace Eros (and flankers...basically Flame)
- Invictus (and flankers)
- Wanted (and flankers)
- Le Male (and flankers)
- Armani Code (and flankers)
- Emporio Armani Stronger with You (and flankers)

I might have missed a few since I'm not particularly a fan of this current genre in the marketplace, so I'm happy with my Fahrenheit 32 and I just don't become a hoarding buying multiple bottles of a genre.

Yeah do whatever feels right for you. Some want to take steroids to enhance their bodies, some don't. No rules at the end of the day, it is down to the target market you're trying to attract and whether you want that extra edge or not. If you break it down and put fragrance as a spectrum, one could logically wear Secretions Magnifiques too. All down to the demographic you're trying to attract.

Le Male (and their flankers) have their audience. Of course no fragrance is going to capture every girl's heart, so it is up to you to do your own research and testing. I can only point the way.

>> No.15560075

>>15560051
The logical conclusion then means Le Male is not worth buying. I wouldn't waste time on it if I don't even like the smell of it on my skin. Depending on whether or not you want an edge, you now have other fragrance pillars and their flankers to investigate.

La nuit felt like a office fragrance to me and egoiste is polarizing I heard

Current (and going back a few years) formulation of la nuit is apparently shit. Terrible performance. Idk about you but I wouldn't buy a vintage bottle, therefore no point sampling.

La Nuit definitely doesn't smell like an office fragrance. It doesn't smell competent enough. Bleu de Chanel or Aqua di Gio Profumo are better office fragrances.

La Nuit, at least my 2009 bottle, smells like intense bee pollen with sweet cedar woods on the dry down. The freshness of the opening mellowing into a sensual sweet woody feeling is quite nice and unique amongst designer fragrances I've smelled in malls in 2019. I'm not as into the reformulated version of La Nuit, so I can't speak too much on that. However, I think it smells a bit too "night/sexy/after hours" for a daytime office worker.

2009 version is alluring and sexy without being overly sweet, anchored onto a cedar wood base. I don't like smelling too close because it reminds me of a make up bag or a grandma. The sillage smells pretty good and overall it gives me a more mysterious modern man smell. The man is dressed in black but not necessarily goth. Metrosexual for sure.

I didn’t say it was the perfect office fragrance, just that the sophistication reminded me of one. Probably good as a dinner night fragrance

If it was an office fragrance, it would be for a hip office where people wear black suit/shirts instead of the more traditional and classical feeling. They might even wear a dressy leather jacket to work.

La Nuit 2009 definitely can be paired with something like this...in a hip office...or afterwork, or dinner

This could work in a hip office where you're not really expected to wear a suit and tie but you like to do it anyways to try hard. It could also be something to wear after work when you still keep your tie on but you loosen and relax it a bit.

La nuit definitely has some "mainstream edgy" so it isn't really edgy but it is what cookie cutter types imagine is "bad boy" or "edgy". More slightly mysterious metrosexual than anything.

I could see that desu it was Sophisticated but still casual. I personally would go with l’homme for an office fragrance

La Nuit is trying to make a statement and an impression but it is still well within the confines of normality with some elegance to it.

Leather jacket would work with La Nuit as well, I can imagine. It isn't rugged but still more on the elegant side.

Posting 5-6 times in a row about the same thing is spamming, yes. Has nothing to do with the content, it’s the fact that you’re wasting 5 posts to do what could be done in one post.

But it doesn’t matter, you know exactly what you’re doing.
