I have long hair and it's very dry. After every shower I let it air dry. I use shampoo only and always by the way. Then put coconut oil in wherever necessary (so not too close to the top and the back is fine by itself), and then make it all soaking wet again and let air dry again.

This works super well, only problem is that it takes literally hours to go through the whole process of air drying twice. But got the best looking hair afterwards. If not enough time available, I only press in some water with my hands instead of making it soaking wet after applying oil.

Also I might change this, I think using less or no shampoo would be good for making it less dry but I was fighting a very dry and flakey scalp for a long time, I think it's finally over so will start experimenting with less shampoo.
