What are some key pieces and brands fo authentic skinhead fashion? Before anyone freaks out and drops a Twitter rant I don't mean modern day racist skinheads, I mean 1970s skinheads when they listened to Jamaican music and half of em were black, but you can add nazi skinhead clothing too I personally don't care since that's also part of the fashion for better or worse, I figured it was the same thing just with skrewdriver shirts and red straight laces. just wanted to clarify before a Karen started autistic screaming thinking this was a /pol/ thread...

look I know lots about skinhead fashion. Skinhead style is crazy varied, there's lots of pieces and colors that would be 'authentic', even more if you include derivatives like seude, gabber, and old hooligan shit. All of it runs the gambit from very classy to incredibly trashy; I think its a great style just because of the variety

Idk much about skinhead culture - I assumed they were Nazi types.

skinhead stuff started by white kids dancing in Jamaican dancehalls back in 1969, there's always been black skinheads, all the way through the 80s. Way more than there were ever black punks

the look you’re talking about is popularly called “Trojan” skinhead or “Traditional” skinhead. It shares a lot of similarities with British mod fashion which was also hot at the time but a few staples are:
Fred Perry polo shirts (Ben Sherman too), Levi’s jeans (like the 511) sometimes bleached to look like camo, referred to as “bleachers”, Dress trousers/slacks, short sleeve button down shirts (Ben Sherman still popular here) Ska/Punk band tees, white is classic, Levi’s jean jackets, MA-1 Bombers, Harrington Jackets, Long wool coats, etc.

obviously you have staples like the boots and braces/suspenders (10 or 14 eye docs, straight laced, no red or white laces unless you’re a racist, yellow or black is safe) and the shaved head. sideburns/chops are a popular choice of facial hair among skins.

One thing to consider though. Skin has always been working class, the whole "racist" skinheads thing naturally came out of it because the guys working in the factories didn't appreciate being replaced by pakis who will work for two cents an hour.

I don't remember where I heard this, but apparently part of the style came from the guys getting drunk and barfing all down themselves. The bile in their vomit would bleach their jeans.
Once again, it could be complete bullshit but it's still a fun origin myth.

it’s worth mentioning: educate yourself on the skinhead subculture. i was rocking a shaved head for a while and i was asked several times at punk shows what i was claiming while wearing a t shirt tucked into a pair of levi’s with docs.

yellow laces/braces or black. white or red will get you called a nazi pretty quick. i’ve never really claimed myself as a skinhead but people are still aware of them.

back in the original skinhead days, you had people wearing black bombers and crombies, but THE two skinhead coats were fly-fronted macs, 3/4ths length or fingertip, or (the more iconic) shearling sheepskin, anysize. The sheepskins are easy to find second hand and I think still look real good
