what are some watches you know you should not reasonably want but still want?
I really like some of the the Holzkern watches despite how clearly overpriced they are. They're the only brand that seems to be pulling off the "wooden watch" meme correctly by not just making a basic watch except wood (well, not for all their models anyway).
They're still complete shitters when it comes to the movement but some of the wood and marble combinations are on point.

how about this $200,000 watch with a real, working wooden MEMEBILLION.

Like, the Amphibia can actually withstand 600m pressure yet it's still sold for less than a hundred bucks meanwhile every swiss brand acts like it's impossible to build a watch that won't explode unless it costs 500 bucks or is a Swatch.

It's a shame that you can't really find mechanical watches that have a moonphase that accurately follows the actual path of the moon. Pretty much every moonphase dial rotates clockwise, while the moon travels around the earth counter clockwise.

It's literally because they needed to market themselves as heritage and luxury to appeal to people with more money than sense, otherwise Seiko was going to shart down their throats during the quartz crisis. They had to start targeting pompous rich assholes or die. Eventually they just memed it into reality.
I hear that the average cost of production for a luxury Swiss watch is 700-1500 dollars. The rest is wank.

Apparently, the watches are fucking huge (46mm by 16mm), use very dense essences and basically over negative water resistance.
You'll probably have to watch for air humidity or it will fuck itself on the long run.

AP aren'ty really known for their movements. Most of their lifetime they used JLC or others. Even now their movement finishing is good but not great. However their dials, case and bracelets finishing are top tier.

Other brands would be Blancpain, Chopard L.U.C, Moser, and maybe Piaget.

Then you have the independants like Voutilainen, Grönefeld, Roger Smith, Akrivia, and of course Dufour.

Time only reversos look much better and lets face it, closer to the original design and functionality.
I think that there's something off with complicated reversos, they are fatter and longer, the proportions are off, also not a fan of the subseconds dial on them.
My favourite reverso is the current classic medium, love that guilloche dial with those blue hands.

You'll get a lot of good recommendations for classic dressier pieces, for something automobilia related you can find car "grille" or car "radiator" watches, vintage solid gold pieces resembling the front of 1920's to 1960's luxury cars.
