Continuing on in my series of trying each of Zoologist's offerings alphabetically here. Next up is Beaver.

I wore this Friday night while getting irresponsibility drunk on IPAs and White Claws, and all of today while nursing a hangover. Beaver is much more considerate to my tame, inexperienced palate than Bat (2020). Its initial impression is of a deep, dark, green forest. I was immediately reminded of a DSquared perfume. One of the three in which their bottles are encased in wood. The wood and water, based with a kiss of amber, that's all I really felt was prominently on display.

Upon reading the Fragrantica page, I was perhaps a little disappointed to find the musk and castoreum animalic notes that I didn't catch on to. Clearly, I still haven't fully grasped at what musk is, and before today, I've never heard of castoreum. This frustrates me as I consider myself fairly discerning and keen in picking up scents and flavors. I feel I really need sample these notes in isolation to better get a grasp of how it plays in the whole orchestra.

That aside, Beaver is a very pleasant outdoorsy experience with its warm woody overtones and amber base. I believe it to be a fairly static fragrance without much changing as the day goes on. It doesn't have quite the projection or longevity of Bat, so if I had a whole bottle I would likely grant myself the extra spray or two. Fortunately, the base notes are the real star of the show here, so what does last a good while is really the biggest reason you would wear this anyway.

Ultimately, Beaver is charming and safe, but not quite as interesting as its alphabetical neighbor, Bat. Perhaps if I gain more experience with musks and subtle animalic notes I will revisit this with a new appreciation. However I feel you can get excellent approximations of Beaver readily. I would be hard pressed to want to convince someone to pick it up.

On a related matter, does there exist such a guided kit of isolated accords, notes, or ingredients?

Thanks senpai. Mildly disappointed with the l'homme infiniment, it smells fantastic but it's a little gutless compared to my memory of it (2018 batch, I last owned a bottle of this in 2007 and that was a hand me down would have been older still). Thought I had the roni for a little bit after first applying. Still getting 6+ hours longevity so perhaps I'm just exaggerating the old stuff in my memory. The GG Absolute I just got an hour ago and lads, this stuff fucks.

Avignon is colder and more "stern", also smokier to my nose. Full Incense is smoother, perhaps a bit spicy. Still, they're quite similar as far as incenses go. To answer your question, I'd say Full Incense is lighter. Performance is key, though. It's so good to catch whiffs of Full Incense half a dozen hours after spraying. Doesn't happer with Avignon. Works great for summer nights, much more versatile and wearable than you'd expect from an incense frag.
Casbah is much colder than both and more serene - not necessarily in a good way. Got an almost mineral-like quality to it. Still not sure what to think of it.
I managed to test Kyoto in a store and now I want to get a decant. It might be the best from CdG Incense series.

no, the rose is not dominant in this one. if you've smelled dior's oud ispahan, you can see the striking similarities, but dior's has much more rose in it, and the oud takes the backseat. it actually borders on being a bit too feminine, but still good stuff. oud palao is the opposite. skankier oud, lighter rose. i can only smells the rose when it's in the air or when my gf wears it. on myself i can barely smell it at all. but i like it a whole lot more than oud ispahan.

Be tall

Be good looking.

I find this out the hard way.

I was out with a friend. He was wearing, say... axe deoderant, and a plain blue t-shirt. He is 8.5/10. I'm barely a 5. He's taller and better looking than me.

I was wearing obv a deoderant, and then D&G The One. I was wearing a £200 Vivienne Westwood top. Lanvin shoes and some jeans. I was dressed well. Like... not being braggy. Dressing and smelling good is my only two strengths in life, basically.

So.. I walk up to this girl to ask her something. Can't remember what, but it wasn't flirting. May have asked her where the bar was or whatever. .... She turns around, gives me a bitchy look (as if to say "eww. Who tf r u?" Then the looks me up and down, and turns her back to me (forcefully), without saying a word. Guess who she turns to? - That's right. My friend.

She instantly goes "omg, I love your shirt" Then looks at me, to rub it in more. As if to say "I know you've made more of an effort, but he's still better than you"

So... I'm then in one of the most awkward situations of my life. I'm standing there, getting cucked, basically. While she flirts with him. I'm standing there, embarrassed and unsure what to do next. If I say something, she's won. If I walk away - She's won!

In the end, I decided to offer to get my friend a drink. Then done the 'polite thing' and asked her what she wants.

In my mind, offering her a drink (obv will always be beta behaviour) but after a rejection, it at least shows that I'm not effected by her.

Grand soir is lovely. BR is too weird for me. It reminds me of a ferris wheel at night or something. Some people say cotton candy, I'm inclined to agree, but kind of burned one, under heat lamps? It's definitely a pleasant experience, but not something I'd wear.

Sup boys, first time stepping foot in a fragrance general. I'm wondering how you guys go about having more than one cologne that you use on a regular basis.. my line of thought has always been that you should have a "signature" scent more or less. I guess I like the idea of my partner always expecting me to smell a certain way, or associating a smell with me- but I just happen to really enjoy more than one cologne. How do you guys decide which one you're wearing for that day/week/event? Your outfit? Or am I thinking of this totally wrong?

My wardrobe is usually functionality over style, and I consider hawaiian shirts to be dressing up. I wouldn't say I look very "masculine" but there may have been times people suspected me to be a school shooter or something.

Next on the list of my sampler spanning the gamut of Zoologist alphabetically is Bee.

Bee brings the series back into interesting territory following the cautious Beaver. I've been wearing this fragrance while finally back in my office this week. Given a six foot clearance and working with fellow software dev aspies who probably wouldn't comment on any fragrance I wear, I felt safe bringing in whatever.
The initial impression from Bee is one that struck me as very familiar given my penchant for hippie candles. Of course given the namesake, a warm and friendly beeswax is the start of this long lasting frag. It is strong and unashamed to be strong. It's accompanied by a number of worker bees such as vanilla, benzoin, and mimosa, which I was surprised to find out did not refer to the Saturday morning beverage of choice for housewives. With its top notes, Bee is very rich and creamy. This prelude lasts a surprisingly long time.

As it evolves, the bees take flight and find more various floral notes to bring back to the queen. There is a clear powder accord which gradually surfaces not dissimilar to Dior Homme. I would have guessed iris as an ingredient were I going into this blind. This is also around the time when the base notes outlast their richer counterparts. Eventually, you will be greeted and left with tonka and resins and sandalwood, but beeswax is not left out. There's a gentle spice to it all as well. Certainly worth a try.

Frankly, this perfume doesn't suit me. I believe this to be more of a ladies' fragrance, although perhaps with larges spaces of time between I could see myself enjoying this alone on a weekend. I appreciate that I'm back on the direction of bold, interesting aromas. I am still greatly looking forward to finishing the series and without a doubt picking up at least a bottle when I'm done.
