The reason a term like this can take off in the first place is because it has some legitimate uses.
As you said, platform shoes because you're short, combovers, hairline tatoos or shit toupees because you won't get over actually being bald, that sort of stuff.
But on /fa/, "cope" has been so generalized that anything can be described as a cope, making the term completely useless.

Because effay is generally incapable of talking about women's fashion.
There's an argument to be made that heels and makeup have kind of evolved into their own worlds and no longer just serve to compensate being short or irregularities on your face. Push-ups and facetuning/shooping ARE complete copes though but firstly, /fa/ doesn't talk about women's fashion much outside of "she's hot oh and her clothes are cool I guess" or arthoe threads, secondly the average person browsing there might not know how to spot that sort of stuff.
Go to /cgl/ if you want to see that happen with a different flavor of autism and slightly different linguo.

"cope" is a stock response now, no matter how little sense it makes. That's especially true when it comes to discussing prices. Getting a pair of cheaper, beater sport shoes to actually do sport isn't cope because you can't afford collectible sneakers yet if you post that, some tard here will call it a poorfag cope.
