Cool Water is more of a late spring/early fall fragrance to me, it isn’t quite right to wear it casually when it is 35+ degrees. I do wear it on horseback all year, though. It is my signature riding fragrance.
But yeah, summer is the season of citrus, aquatics and florals.

whats the deal with anna zworykina perfumes? worth the hype? her sample pack is pretty pricey and Im not gonna pay $115 aud for 8ml of smelly water. speaking of which an australian website that sells samples recently changed from $10 for 2ml to $8 for 1ml. wanted to cop a sample of moth and inevitable crimes of passion but i dunno now.

just want to thank you again anon, I went to a store irl and tried them all out and went with the prada l'homme, i'm a beginner at this stuff but from the smell i think it's pretty versatile

also, my LDDM sample came in and that one also smells pretty fantastic, the name actually kind of describes the smell but this really is a summer 'smell'

For a date night frag that can double as a special scent for things like evenings out for dinner etc should I just cop a sample of Opium then get a bottle for a good deal, or should I sample stuff like Tobacco Vanille, Epic Man, Musc Ravageur etc?

Unless you are loaded then no it's clearly not worth it, experience wise you won't be transported to higher levels of reality smelling a $10+/ml frag compared to a $3/ml and even to a designer one; it could smell more natural, it could be better blended, it could be more original but it won't be exponentially so, in the end it just smells good to great

What are you really frustrated here about? CP is an excellent fragrance and I for one am glad I got my nose put on it. Should we talk every thread about BdC, Aventus and Sauvage? I think it depends. I bought Chypre Palatin because people here were talking about it, so I sampled it and loved it. Bortnikoff, I’ve tried a bunch of, and I think they’re like Areej Le Dore: completely overrated shit. Yes, they use lots of natural ingredients, but it doesn’t really matter when it’s just some Slavic hack throwing a bunch of deer piss, pine needles, and Cade oil in their bathtub and stirring it with a kitchen ladle.

It is pretty funny how desperate people here are to be “Chads”. Some dickhead will, post some new frag he’s found here, claiming that it’s a Chad fragrance and if you don’t like it, it’s because you’re some nancy who can’t handle manly scents, and all the little twerps here will trip over themselves to buy it. This is why /frag/ is such shit now. The turds here are so insecure that they’ll spend hundreds of dollars on a bottle of smelly water just so they can post a picture of it here and have some random anonymous autist on an Uzbek Yak Enthusiast board tell them they’re “based”. It’s absolutely pathetic.

Plus, if you post about something that isn’t whatever the flavor of the month that all the kool kids are talking about, you’ll get a bunch of dipshits coming at you talking shit and calling you soi. As a result, the people who re actually interested in talking about frags have mostly left and what remains is the pathetic Chadposting circlejerk. It’s 4chan in a nutshell. You have a site full of autistic, socially maladjusted incels who so desperately want to be popular that you can control them just by using the words “based” and “cringe”. It’s Pavlovian. It’s really hilarious how people here think they’re alpha Chad trendsetters, while in actuality they’re just conditioning each other to be mindless NPCs.

That's not that long ago, you can go back in the archives to the first general. Catposter was a spamming shit poster, and you used to fellate everyone else you mentioned, and strangely enough to what's currently being bandied about, you used to try to crush disent from anyone that didn't go along with the daiseychain bunch you just mentioned. That's why they don't post anymore, people started calling them out on their bullshit choices after being labeled a noselet for not liking what they personally bought. I can go back to my first posts, and wonder if I wrecked this general, if unintentionally, by not adhering to their dogma. You perfume enthusiasts have only gotten weirder the more I get to know you.

That’s kind of the point, though. This is a thread for perfume enthusiasts. If you just want some generic sexy scent for dates or clubbing, this is the wrong place to come. There are tons of resources for that. He’ll, just google “sexy scents for men”, it’ll come up with Sauavage or something, and you go buy that. The point with this general was for enthusiasts to discuss their hobby. This is a hobby thread.

Also, Hookerfag, at least, didn’t do any of that shit. He basically never even identifies himself unless it’s relevant or people are specifically addressing him. I’m pretty indifferent towards him either way, but he never tried to make people do stuff, people just kind of attributed a lot of stuff to him and made a lot of assumptions about him. There is no dogma. Just saying.

>> No.15446254

It could be that there's not that much to talk about. The thread was at its peak when it was starting getting warmer and people were looking for some summer frag choices, but how long can you be talking about those 1-4 bottles you bought four months ago for? Maybe it'll come back to life in Autumn when people will be sniffing stuff again

>> No.15446256

I don’t give a fuck about praise and adoration, I just posted stuff because we used to do that and have actual discussions. If people don’t know my “unique gem”, maybe they’d ask about it, and we’d wind up having a nice little conversation about it? That’s sort of how discussion works. Now, I post a cop, someone will post a Soijack or a Pepe or something, and that’s that. That’s how discussion dies.

That's when it really turned to shit. We were having a nice comfy thread and some pozzed drama queen injected her poison to kill the progress we've made. Good job oldfags? I personally enjoyed other people spending 100s on samples and telling me whats good. But the problem with that is now you've found something you like, and now you have to spend monies on it, because finding something nice is actually rare if you have any opinion at all and don't like literally everything like the community let's on. How many 1 and 2 star reviews on these perfume sites? They still give it 3-3.5 even if they dont really like it in the review. Can't trust them, look for the common themes and the dissent, there you will find your truth. I'm pretty sure it's one dude shilling bortnicough, not sure where the dickriding part comes in.

Imagine actually believing this. Let my guess you're the guy who got triggered because of people saying that Layton is mediocre and snapping back at Montale/Mancera to take your revenge? Lmao, imagine being this fragile. You are also delusional saying that the level of these threads back then was lower than what we've got for lost couple months. Barely anything interesting is discussed these days, we had dozens people sampling new exciting niche stuff and reviewing it and now we talk over and over again about the same designers (if only, recently we reached some of the lowest shelves from Macy's too), actually funny OC got replaced with shitposting and posting soijacks. Also no one identified themselves if not asked directly from what I remember (but for the cases like a come back of Scent Scav etc), now you got worst tripfags of this board raiding these threads regularly and some other newfags putting trips up. No, the 10 bottles thing is a few newfags/poorfags who don’t understand what having a hobby is. They’re mostly coomers who only care about frags getting them laid, so they can’t conceive of the idea that a person may just genuinely love frags and enjoy having lots of them. Yes, it’s not strictly necessary to have more than a handful of frags, but just because something isn’t necessary doesn’t mean there’s some sort of pathos behind it. People don’t call dudes who collect classic cars mentally ill. It’s a hobby. If you like frags because they get you laid, cool, but don’t assume everyone likes them for the same reason.

You make some fake posts about bortnikoff recently, tried to get some meme momentum going, so you could turn right around and shit on anyone that agreed that, yes, maybe borrnikoff might be good. "Dickriding" Why would you do that unless your a scheemer trying to shit in your thread? I secretly knew I probably wouldn't like it, an overrated cummy vanilla, but I stayed silent. Someone else came in and said maybe it's not so great. No drama ensued and thread continued. No dickriding of malle, no deference to a hired hand house, or appeals to authority. By that logic, the only ones here who are respectable are the ones with 20k collections, all the others are just braindead consumers.

i remember talking about incenses a few threads ago. i gotta say i sort of backtracked on Cardinal Heeley. I just put a spritz on my hand to see whats what again and its not as dark as I first thought it was. It is quite uplifting and i still like it a lot but I don't want to pay that much for it anymore, mainly cause the performance is really lacking. Now I'm thinking Avignon but its only 50ml for another poor performance incense. Have you tried Full Incense? I can't find any samples here so it would have to be a blind buy but I was considering it. Can you tell me about it if you've tried it?

For anyone interested, I’ve given Fjerne a few wears now and it’s quite interesting. Right off the bat, I get cocoa powder and coconut, but it’s not overly sweet or gourmandish. There’s sort of a malty, grainy thing, almost a bit like beer, or maybe even vodka, then a really nice patchouli note under it all. Not skanky hippie patchouli, but snice dark, earthy patchouli. There’s more going on, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe some sandalwood? There’s something that could maybe be a very subtle lime note, though overall the fragrance doesn’t smell citric at all. Could be some almond or heliotrope in there too. Longevity is amazing, easily 12 hours or more. Projection is more subtle than most Slumberhouse frags. It’s definitely solid, but does gas out the room.

Very weird stuff, I’m not quite sure how to classify it. I like it, though. Also have to say, the new bottles are quite snice. The caps actually have some heft to them, unlike the last batch with the shitty rubber condom caps.

I just tried Chypre Palatin for the first time and I really loved the first 30 minutes or so. It smelled like it had a lot of depth and was very animalic. But now an hour and a half in or so all I really smell is a sweet oakmoss type smell. Usually animalic notes are base notes so I'm surprised that they disappeared. I'm pretty disappointed.

After some encouragement from anons, I think I will indeed give bite sized analyses and reviews of each from my sampler containing the entirety of the Zoologist line. I'm not particularly experienced, but I go though samplers or small decants of as many different products as I can. I have at least experienced a range of standard perfumes you might find at Macy's, plus some rarer ones which piqued my interest. Pardon if any of this gets wordy. Thanks anons.
In respectable packaging with charming presentation, including a hand written thank you note from Victor Wong himself, I received my delivery. Organized alphabetically, I'm simply going down the list as is.
The first was Bat, a reformulated 2020 Bat. Right of the bat (lmao) this scent screamed at me. I've never worn a frag with animal notes so prominently on display. It caught me off guard. It reminded me of the zoo I frequented as a child, but maybe that's just the bias of the brand's name. Hard to say.
At any rate, I initially found it a little offensive, but I was still totally curious. After I "came to terms" with that peddle tone of a note, I was able to enjoy the sweet guava aroma top note that was also present immediately, but not screaming as loudly as the animalic. Finally, as I stood there taking it all in, maybe for a minute or two, the leather notes became apparent. I know there are different kinds of leather scents. Focusing on just the leather, it reminded me of Jimmy Choo Man. Very possibly a shared ingredient.
Reading up on the wiki, users rate soil as a prominent scent. I didn't really pick up on that, but it's possible I just don't know what I'm looking for. I'll try again tomorrow.
I have to concede I'm not sure I totally love it, but I love the idea of it and I love the challenge it offers me. Like listening to Venetian Shares or Throbbing Gristle, it's the hunt of the challenge and desire to experience the esoteric that really drives me to do most of my hobbies.

Good post, but a lot of the dipshits here now are total faggots who are just here to shitpost and antagonize people, so you’ll probably catch some shit for it.

That said, try the original Bat/Night Flyer. The original perfumer has it for sale on her site: https://orchidscents.com/?product=night-flyer-the-original

I own a bottle of the original and I’ve sampled the new one. Though I like Prin Lomros’ work for the most part, new Bat didn’t impress me much. He did a much better job with Sloth for Zoologist. The original Bat is just so much more interesting and I think represents the animal better as well.

>>15447667
Low probability of picking that up, but I'll certainly keep it in mind. I don't have any friends interested in fragrance, so it's unlikely a friend would loan me a spray or two.

All the same I heard your opinion echoed at various places regarding the reformulation. I don't suppose you know anything about why it may have happened in this case, especially given the original is available elsewhere.

>> No.15447706

>>15447689
She sells samples, so you could just get one of those.

Evidently, from what I’ve managed to piece together between Victor’s account, and Ellen’s (the perfumer’s) account, essentially she retained control of the formula and wouldn’t allow anyone else to produce it, and the issue was that since she’s also a professor, it took her too long to produce batches to send to Victor because she was really only making it as a side gig. Victor offered to buy the formula from her so he could produce it himself but she refused, so Victor was forced to get a new perfumer to “reimagine” Bat and Ellen decided to rerelease the original formula on her own. So it wasn’t that Victor wanted a new Bat, he’s well aware that the original is considered somewhat of a modern classic and is the best received from Zoologist thus far, he just didn’t really have a choice in the matter.

I like DG The One (go with the EDP concentration) and La Nuit the best on this list in terms of scent, but BDC is probably going to be the best value if you're just looking to buy just one any time fragrance. Both the others smell great but they have longevity issues. BDC is the king of kings when it comes to versatile dumb reach fragrances. It's stupid popular so you're going to smell like 150 people's douche bag ex, but all the options you listed are extremely, extremely popular, so if those are the only options I say go with BDC

Why is bergamot in almost everything? It pisses me off when fragrance reviewers highlight a fragrance opening with a "beautiful sparkling bergamot". Shut your whore mouth, it's in every single fragrance. I don't believe they even know what it smells like. It's in every single fragrance I own and none of them smell remotely similar. In fact, I question whether it's even a real thing

It is a clone of Shiseido/Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois. And there is also CgG Floriental which is a take on the same theme.

some dude is selling an original formulation eau des baux, worth it over the newer one? a review on fragrantica says the newer version has more cypress and incense though and they were my favourite parts of it when i tested it. frankly i dont think i would trade that for better performance.

breh you dont know how much i fucking agree i hate bergamot and they shove it up the ass of everything.

The thing I like about bergamot is its name, makes me think of Proust and a comfy 1900 france setting

You two were molested by bergamot of something? Bergamot is like a conductor taping a baton on a music desk, it is not healthy to be annoyed by it.

I think there's hope and /frag/ will be back at peak form in Autumn. One of the factors people overlooked is Summer. I noticed this myself that I just dumb reach frags on hot days. So perhaps this too contributes to the quality of threads

it annoys me cause its always in some spicy fragrance for some reason. i just want pure spice but no there has to be bergamot.
>>15450599
pls no i'm so afraid i'll end up like this. every time i hit around 15 on this list i do a big trim but then it grows again. and again and again..
>>15450657
i went through a sample and i liked it enough to want a full bottle (but im not cause fuck that performance) but to me its more about the musk and lily then incense much like how timbuktu is more about the fruit and the incense is in the background. Avignon and Heeley and whatever else I talked about with him are more full on incense frags.

Yes, but it's my belief that Proust based that character's name of the word bergamote, you can often see how autistic he was with some words' sonority and there's something about bergamote that sounds very pleasant, then there's the fruit itself of course.
So just like his madeleine when I think of bergamote I think of Proust
