Peruse through the sale section , you'll find dirt cheap shit like light jackets, uniqlo u pieces, winter/fall pieces etc.

Other than that get some staple plain tees, uniqlo u has some decent 1s and the uniqlo u airism ones are ncie. Straight cut chinos, Sweatshirts, overshirts, button downs. airism boxers /vests are great too

older anon, just turned 40. saw a fashion guide which recommended Uniqlo even for older men. Some of the over sizes shit is a no way from me, but the polo shirts look decent enough

If you are getting into fashion and looking for the basics to set up a wardrobe, Uniqlo is by far your best bet. I recommend you pick up a few collared shirts, shorts, a hoodie, and the Uniqlo U t shirts (thicker than a regular t shirt and has an appealing fit, I think they have a sale for those on their online shop). I'd avoid their jeans - they are usually poor quality and the dye fades really quickly.

This list is well above $250 but these are what you aim for with basics
Black skinny jeans
One pair of slim fit chinos
Plain black, white, heather grey tees (crew neck and v neck)
Long black socks
One Jacket for daily cool weather
One overcoat or peacoat
One pair of black boots
One pair of black sneakers
Black or grey long sleeve tees
White dress shirt (I prefer dress shirts with band collars)
One black or dark navy blue sweat shirt
One black pull over hoodie
And not essential but you should buy a perfume or cologne that you love.

That'll cover pretty much any occasion for you without breaking the bank (should run you about $500-$600 total.) You'll never feel over or under dressed with that list, and you can wear those clothes all year round.

here's a thing uniqlo lets you do that is more difficult at most other stores:
you can get a pile of essentially the same piece in a lot of different colours and go try them on.
this can give an absolute newb some ideas about which colours and patterns look good on him.

Their slim fit button-ups are my favorite dress shirts for everyday use. They're light cotton and 4% spandex. Very comfortable, and they don't wrinkle much at all. Their DRY pants look good for 100% polyester--they're very light and breathe well in the summer. Their wool-like winter pants are good too. I like polyester slacks because I don't need to take them to the drycleaners. They don't look cheap, fine for office wear.

Also, you can get a decent looking casual suit if you pair their DRY pants with the matching blazer. I'd recommend taking it to a tailor unless you're really lucky to have a perfect fit, but I really like them for the summer--very lightweight.

thanks for the tips

I am however a complete fucking failure when it comes to fashion: what do you recommend I wear over the polo shirts to look a bit better?

>> No.15443133

m8 personally I'm a huge fan of their wide fit jeans. I'm not sure if you're looking for something loose, or if they even carry the wide fit anymore, but they're probably the most comfy pants I've ever worn.

Also the 3D jeans are nice, but for some reason they have this weird as fuck third inseam. It's completely unnecessary and makes your jeans look like some early-2000s shit, which I don't like because I look like a baby and I'm worried people will confuse me with post ironic college-aged fashion kids, but if you like that look then those jeans are absolutely perfect for it.

When it's cool, I wear a grey sweatshirt over a polo. It's more casual than a sweater. Most of the time I just wear a tucked-in solid or narrow plaid, gingham or other low-key patterned button-up, some slacks, and loafers. It requires very little though, but you look put together without being dressed up. The key is to make sure things fit you well. That might involve losing weight, or gaining some muscle, or not. Basically, I just wear boring classic stuff, but I make sure it fits well.

OP asked about BASICS, there always has to be contrarians that don't read. It's meant to be safe or conservative. Black, white, grey are basic colors you can pair up with anything, and still looks stylish. Filling your wardrobe with the clothes on that list will help enhance any outfit or style you want go for. You buy that and take your time building up off of it with more colorful, higher quality, rare or avant-garde pieces if that's the direction you want to go in.

Going for only black, white and grey is retarded though. Go into the streets and see how much people only wear black and white. It kinda makes sense to choose a color palette that is safe but it's far from common and if you really wanna have something versatile you should go for very common colors that feel well together, like blue, black and white.
