Depends on the watch. Both Omegas can be set once every 3 months with regular wear and be fine for the time (though the numerical date will have to be reset depending on short months and February). I've never worn the Seagull for more than a month, but that was fine. The Waltham is dead on if need be, but I haven't run it more than 3 weeks at a time. Never tested the other ones. The Seamaster was so good at one point that I could predict the first strike of Big Ben's chimes, must to the astonishment of friends (it used to be 21 seconds before the hour, but I don't know what it is now since the renovation).

Visit some watch stores, try a few things on; you'll figure out what you like and what definitely doesn't work, and then you can narrow down the possibilities until you settle on something. Then, find out the price, and start saving.

After a while, you should then start looking online on the secondary market, and if you find the model you want in decent to good condition, you can probably get a deal. Watches bought in the boutiques devalue heavily when you walk out the store, so the smart thing is to let other people take the hit and then buy secondary.

You still have to do research, and know your watches and your prices, as well as factoring in the cost of a possible full service. But it can be worth it if you're lucky and smart.

>pic related. It's in for servicing now, but the cost of a full service from Omega + the cost of the watch from Ebay is still less than half of what it cost new. Watches that make you happy don't have to cost a fortune Anon.

Once it breaks through the $10,000 resistance the panic will begin and small ARCHIELUXURY subscribers and Hodinkee readers will begin to offload, with the flippers already long gone. Once it shoots through the $8500 mark, unabated FEAR will ripe through all Rolex owners. With all those who dumped their saving accounts into this scam twitching at their arsehole continuously while refreshing Chrono24. The $7000 mark will be met, the largest panic in history will ensue. The final deluded watch sites will begin to go offline, and wagecuckers with their middle management salaries loaded up in "investment watches" will be left with it stuck in their dressers, unable to move it to ebay to salvage some self respect. The price WILL tank at this point to sub $6000, and most probably sub AD retail levels. From that day forward the deluded ROLEXROLEXROLEX wagecucking "nouveau riche" middle managers who bought this STUNNA thinking it had investment value will go back to their jobs, with no money in their saving accounts, to be made redundant by the next wave of pajeets and changs arriving to undercut their wages. To answer your first question, I like to be here when I'm drunk. It's nice to see people enthusiastic about material possessions that I'm enthusiastic about too. It somehow makes things a little more bearable in the 'current year', when it's very difficult if not impossible to be honest about anything in public. There are watches here I've never seen before, and one or two I've picked up for myself as a result. So, it's in general a learning experience, but hopefully my thoughts can be of use to someone just getting into the 'hobby' (though buying things is not really a hobby, is it...).

I was asking what brought you here because it seems like you have nothing to contribute other than to complain about your current situation, which while problematic is outside the scope of /wt/ given that there are no direct solutions to your personal financial situation.

Interesting though:

Recessions are often good for high-end collectible markets. Classic cars, for example, went nuts after the '08 one. When more traditional investments like stocks go down rich people have a tendency to gravitate toward tangible assets that they think are more stable and/or have more potential for profit in a shorter time.

the bezel has a brass wire inside that controls the tightness of the bezel. The sharper the bent angles = the tighter the bezel.

1)tape up one lug so you dont scratch it by accident
2)insert butterknife/caseback pryer/blunt blade of choice between taped lug and bezel
3)grip it and with controlled force pop out the bezel
4)adjust wire with hands (not too much if not it'll be impossible to get bezel back on
5)put wire back inside the bezel, there is a groove. Make sure wire sits inside
6)press the bezel back down, you'll hear the 'pop' again. Remove tape.

Laco Augsburg.

The lume seems overbearing, but I like it, gives it charm and authenticity as to its purpose.

Other choices are the Orient pilot, Seiko snk, Avi 8 pilot, San Martin pilot and if you are daring, Boldr and Glycine have some okayish showings. But overall, I think Laco is the way to go.

I'm in the market to make a purchase for a really nice watch. My plan is to go of a Breitling Navitimer B01 43 Chrono but it's got a hefty ass price tag which I'm not 100% opposed to but was just wondering if there was any other aviation watches that are a bit cheaper but look as good as it.
So far I've fallen in love with the Navi and I'm very close to making a purchase, Navy blue on dark navy blue leather strap.

Then start on modifying off the shelf movements to get the features I want like changing subdial positions or adding interesting complications like power reserves on the backs. Try and aim for the £1000-£2000 range. Most of my designs would be amalgamations of vintage watches I like. Eventually start buying in movements unassembled and doing all the assembly / finishing in house, or enter a partnership with an ebauché to make movements especially for me, and move up in price accordingly

you can still wear leather NATOs as a wristlet but only the other way, where most of the strap is scrunched up under your wrist (annoying as I found out. I've since ordered and waiting for normal leather straps from AE). If you wear it the normal way, like that anon said--it will be very fat/sticking out of your wrist.

But if you do that (having it scrunch up under your wrist) you might as well just get a normal 2 piece strap... other alternative would be a single pass nato strap.

You can knock off about 20% from MSRP if you negotiate with an AD. They also go for around $5,500 in the grey market.

I don’t think you can go wrong with it at that price. Probably the best chronograph in that range. The B01 calibre is column wheel driven with a vertical clutch, kif shock protection system and a 70 hour power reserve with a COSC rating. The design itself is based on Rolexs’ 4130 architecture which powers the Daytona. It’s built for reliability and serviceability. Breitling spent 5+ years working and refining the movement. It also serves as the base for some of Tudors modern chronographs. For something equivalent from Omega for example you would have to pay close to $13,000 if not more depending on the model.

Vostoks have grown on me. I love their unapologetic slavshit aesthetic. "Fuck you, it works and we're super literal." How do you tell people your watch can go underwater? Put a gigantic dude scuba diving right on the dial. No subtlety. It reminds me of the Polish poster for Jaws 2

im not at that stage yet, i think most of their watches is downright ugly still, lol. But its a very rare watch company. No premium lines for rich people. No different tiers where the lowest line intentionally gets bad/budget design . For them is literally just "do you have around $100-200 ? here, take it or leave it"

The Sinn is the original Navitimer, they bought the rights to the design but not the name when Breitling went bust in the 70s.
Breitling today is a company formed in the late 70s by Sicura after they bought the name at auction, so the modern Breitling Navitimer is actually an homage.

Looks like total crap. Just wear a regular leather band. The bulk underneath must be a bitch, constantly snagging on things.
Natos are a meme. Your springbars won't fail under regular use. Loosen your band a bit when doing stuff that forces you to bend your wrist alot. This way you will not put as much tension on the springbars.

Natos are a meme, I like the slip-thru nylon band tho
