Bought this a few days ago. Apparently smells very similar to Aventus. To me, it just smells like watery pineapple or a peach and orange cordial drink. However, I've gotten like 3 compliments on it in a couple of days and like 6hrs after applying, even though Fragrantica says it has shit longevity.

Parfums Vintage went downhill the second they started doing anything other than Aventus clones. Even their bottles are shit now. I have an old PVI, it’s got the metal seal on it and a wooden cap and actually has some weight to it. My buddy has a newer frag from then and the bottle feels cheap, it leaks, there’s a shitty paper label, and the cap is plastic.

Why the fuck did John Varvatos do this? It’s one thing to pick a celebrity as the face of a fragrance, but it’s another thing entirely to name the fragrance after the celebrity. It makes it seem like a celebrity fragrance, and unlike fragrances that use a celebrity in the ad campaign but have a unique name like Sauvage or Boss Bottled, celebrity branded fragrances have a reputation for being shitty and cheap. Plus, when you market to men by using male celebrities, you are trying to sell them on the idea that wearing the fragrance will make you be more like them. My Cool Water will be empty soon and I tested some summer recommendations that got mentioned here:

Starts with lime, drydown is a very nice vetiver, basically a more gentle TdH. I really like it, but I'm not sure if this is the frag I want to wear in the summer heat.

First lemons, then a very soapy drydown, I guess that's mainly lavender. A very clean fragrance, but I think too clean and too soapy for me. I get why people love this: if you want to smell clean and fresh in a soapy way, this is perfect. Longevity is not good for me.

Pure bergamot, reminds me of an ice cold glass of Limoncello. Fresh citrus, people say the longevity is bad, but at least for me it lasted longer than Colonia.

Right now I'm leaning towards DHC, maybe in addition to that the Guerlain one. Need to try Colonia some more.

I ordered samples of PV Pineapple Vintage, PV Intense and whatever the fuck the one in the black bottle was called. PV smelled like Demeter's Pineapple frag, PV Intense smelled like the Demeter frag mixed with wood chips, and the one in the dark bottle smelled like pineapple and salami. I've owned Aventus and none of them smelled remotely like it.

I don't believe there is some sort of conspiracy involving PV paying off every single fragrance reviewer and half of the entire community, surely some people out there are getting good bottles, but I do suspect they have piss poor quality control and are highly inconsistent. Given the price tag I would never buy a full bottle from them. At that price point you're much better off buying decants if you're looking for something you can't afford.

You can almost always detect certain notes if you know what you're looking for, plus there are objective measures of a fragrance's quality like longevity and sillage. The price tag on high end fragrance is almost never justified, but you can tell whether or not something is working for you based on reactions from others. It's nothing like wine.

I got to try Caron Pour un Homme de Caron today and fuck me what a scent. its very mesmerizing. Not to mention how wearable it still is considering its age, yet theres still an old school charm about it. it seems like the scents i enjoy the most are the ones that are only 2-4 notes, like this, NR for Him and Serge Lutens Chergui. They're all so alluring and I like that they keep it simple. Also Aramis Havana, smells like a casino with a lot of smokers, Zino Davidoff, meh, too weak. Was considering blind buying it, thank fuck i found a tester. Lalique White, classy and elegant but ultimately boring, Ungaro III, also too weak, Jovan Sex Appeal, very nice soap and spice mix.
