I don't really get this. I try to pick really average pictures of myself for any dating app. I'm not very photogenic but I have a few "good" photos where I look a lot better than normal. I'd be embarrassed to use them and then meet with someone looking worse than they expect. I would much rather turn up looking better than they thought I would. I feel like it would give off a narcissistic impression as well. Like trying to represent myself using only my best pictures. That said I'm still not going to upload a photo of me doing a wide smile because I look extremely unfortunate in that expression.

I mostly speaking hypothetically because I don't use them anymore, but when I did they were actually a great way to meet people and spend more time outside. I never found going outside and organically meeting people to be that beneficial, at least for dating. I'm also not American and we don't have a culture here of just approaching random people and making friends. Friend groups are almost set in stone by the time you are 21 here so dating apps are very helpful. Maybe it's different for Americans or people who are younger and have a lot of opportunities to meet people through college or activities, but I would recommend them to introverted people definitely. At least if nothing else you will know you and the person you're meeting are on the same page.

Actually, you're probably right. I only post here when I'm very desperate to pass the time (which is all the time now under quarantine) so I block out that I'm basically typing into the void. I have met a pretty significant amount of "quality" women on dating apps but I'm gay (and female) so I'm sure the scene is probably different anyway. I agree with anon who says you meet the nicest people by not actively looking for them, though.
