>> No.15418028

>>15418011
It is hard to assess based on looking at the mirror, but I'd also venture to guess PPT / hyperextended knees. Shortening the back rise could be the key here. See this article for reference: https://putthison.com/a-bespoke-tailor-explains-how-trousers-should-fit/
To make things more difficult, there is a difference in trousers' back rise and the length of the crotch yoke (don't know the actual term here). I thought for a long time that I required a longer back rise because I couldn't find properly high waisted trousers, but all my MTM high rise trousers ended upp odd and wrinkled under the ass. Then the tailor realised that the yoke should be longer but not the rise: this cause the trousers to properly "flip" over my arse, but the rise wasn't too long so it ended up sitting well on my buttocks without causing any excess material in the upper legs. I also had the same tailor steam and stretch some curve to the trousers to help with the front-back-balance.

I hope this helped in any way, I have really no idea how to talk about tailoring in English, lol.

>> No.15418059

>>15418034
Great to hear! You could try altering your trousers if you have a good tailor in your area. In most trousers, you can let out around 1.5–2.5cm extra to the yoke of the trousers, and it is an easy fix to shorten the rear rise – it can marginally effect how the back pockets look (they will sit a bit higher than before, but it should not be an issue. Costs about 20–30€ here in Finland.
>>15418042
Stop with the stupid exaggeration. The grey flannels look like they hit the natural waist. My trousers >>15417596 here hit right at my navel. This is the traditional waistline for trousers, e.g. in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 70's, 80's. You might not like the look, but it is traditional and comfortable and fits perfectly in this thread.

No problem. I thought they looked Italian. I know that Magnanni and the like (more flexible soles, lighter, more pointed lasts, patinated colours etc.) has its fans, but personally, it just screams "cheap looking" to me. I think my biggest gripe is the cheaper leather hides used – the more lighter brown Italian shoes will often look quite discoloured and old compared to e.g. English shoes. The more aggressive lasts often look off with classic outfits and remind me of cheaper "dress shoe" monstrosities seen here like Bugatti, Rockport and the like. Some Italian companies make nicer looking shoes, though – Bontoni and Antonio Meccariello come to mind.

I think brown loafers that aren't suede are in general a bit hard to match, despite many thinking otherwise (brown being a common suggestion for beginner dress shoes, for example). I think it has to do with connotations and tradition: black loafers have been used for a long time with more formal and casual outfits and have become a bit of a classic both with suits, preppy outfits and even jeans. In contrast, brown suede loafers are a casual wear staple and are worn a lot with more rustic clothing, military chinos etc. so they definitely have their own "slot" in terms of clothing. Burgundy loafers, especially Col. 8 cordovan, are somewhere in between here. But brown loafers, especially tassels? They don't really have that tradition.

Personally, I like brown loafers but I find your ones a bit too light to my taste, especially with the medium-gray suit. If it were a bit more coffee-ish brown or a bit more maroon, it would probably go better. Now the colour pops out a bit too much to my mind. I think that shade would go better with more informal combinations, like a sports coat with khaki trousers or perhaps olive.

I’m new and lurking but how do I dress to look pretty well put together every day without overdoing it and fitting my social environment which is very casual?

I don’t have a LOT to spend and like the look of a lot of The Rake stuff but really it would never fit my situation so I’d need to tone it down. Some chinos look like too much most of the time and don’t have the weight I’d like for price, really jeans would be much more fitting in the shithole I am but I don’t know how to make them work. Again, I’m not looking to be TIP, I’m just /fit/, mid 20s, and clueless from a life of athleisure and want something better (that is not just button-down shirts or tshirts) without alienating people around me, thinking more polos, half zip knitwear, mock necks etc

Yeah, polos are good. Get a nice navy merino polo. I got one from uniqlo ages ago and I'm frequently getting compliments. I'm /fit/ as well (although I've lost a TON of gains this lockdown) and I can tell you, polos are your friend.

Otherwise, get some dark blue chinos (basically jeans) and some nice suede chukkas. None of that is particularly extravagant. Trow in some nice ocbds (ticking stripes are particularly nice) and you will be on the path to true trad-dom. Oh and don't throw away your jeans. Nah, I went on a school trip a couple of years ago to Normandy and Paris. We spent most of our time in Normandy, which was a pretty nice place but I definitely expected more. Anyway, we were in Paris for a day and barely got to look around the place but from what I can tell you is that it was a dirty cesspool filled to the brim with muslims and Africans, I saw less than 200 french people, this is not a joke. It stank as well, probably because of all the kebab stores and the shit in the streets. How far the French have fallen...

>I don't think I've ever seen one in the UK.
That's because Brits have godawful taste in clothes. They're all made in Scotland and generally available for sale by UK-based vendors. There was an exception where recently I went to a shop in Bologna (de paz) which sold a whole load of made-in-scotland brands that I'd never heard of and seem to have been produced solely for export. Shaggy Dogs sold at J.Press fall under this category.

They've become an ivy staple, especially the shaggy variant. Still, living in Paris, I have still managed to get hold of a few (all genuine shetland) so they're not exactly hard to get. In fact, there's a whole guide in the sticky to European sources of shetland jumpers. My favourites are bosie, jamiesons and howlin' by morrisons.

Is this the famous American education? Anyway, you're wrong about Paris. It's a big city with a lot of very nice places (16,17, 14, 7, 6, 11 arrondissements are all very civilised). I don't blame you though. Tourists always have bad experiences. Even native Frenchies hate Paris with a passion. I think you only really come to understand a place like Paris when you actually live there for a time. Better than London btw. I hate London and I've lived here for many years.

No where did I claim that Normandy is in the south of France and two, I'm not even American, I'm just assuming that the south will be worse since it has a lot of Arab influence in the native population. I haven't seen the demographics of it so my judgment is ill informed. I should've clarified that Normandy is obviously in the North, I even got to see a bit of England albeit it was quite foggy. Yes, like I mentioned I was only in Paris for a day, I'm not sure why you clearly looked over this, probably to enforce your agenda that I'm stupid, or something similar to that manner.

I got that as well, anyone who says larp is a massive faggot who cannot give good criticism, for some reason the slimshits always claimed that the "larp police" (as they have in this thread) tear you to shreds because of nitpicking (apparently the fit of a jacket is nitpicking) but they always become feral dogs if someone wears trousers which sit on the waist or that you wear tweed (yes, seriously) but it's always about he trousers to them. I do pity them just for the amount of cope they have in their posts.

There aren't any good raglan sweatshirts in your price range, either they are way too long (which looks odd with higher rise trousers and isn't the traditional look), they have larger neck openings (which doesn't look good and isn't the traditional look) or they have smaller ribbing (which isn't the traditional look). Nowadays, if you want a good sweatshirt, you either have to get lucky with thrifting or buy a Japanese reproduction sweat that is great but costs 150-200€. Myself, I have one from Buzz Rickson's and one from The Real Mccoy's. Both were expensive but are just the right fit (for example, the BR one is 62cm long in size L with a 58cm pit to pit, long ribbing and a tight neck – just perfect in every way). Camber USA is making pretty good ones as well for slightly cheaper, but you can only get them from Beige Habilleur and they are now sold out for this s/s season.
