About why I hate thinkpads... I used thinkpad at school and it was cool when I was a kid, but now I think that trackpoint is as outdated as trackball. Mouse was not a mistake. Actually best thing that ever happened to pc. If you want to use calculator-like controls, fine, use whatever you want to "code" in linux but I can't imagine to use solidworks without a mouse. im writing this from a t14, 400 nits display, best keyboard on a laptop, very light, long battery life, 32gb ram etc
only downside its not as powerfull and pretty expensive at 1.7k

I did the same with a 2011 back in 2018. Ran with it until may of this year and bought a used 2018 mbp with 16gb and an i9 chip.

The higher tier newer MacBooks are great in terms of user experience and I feel 10x more productive because when I need it to run it doesn’t get bogged down like my last one would
