You really don't know what you're talking about do you? And lmfao God forbid you actually have a network card that works outside of windows. Newflash faggot, the internals of your precious all American IBM thinkpads looks exactly the same as Lenovo ThinkPad.

You can scroll on a Thinkpad by thumbing the middle button and moving the trackpoint up or down with your index finger.

Main advantage of trackpoints are that you do all your clicking with your thumb; if you can't adjust the speed or sensitivity of the cursor then it could seem sluggish, but the Linux defaults are fine for me.

I use my hp mostly for work with cad and I use all of these buttons. This laptop was designed to be used for cad. Unfortunately I think it was the last normal elitebook... 2 button touchpad is cheap trash for casual pc users.
About why I hate thinkpads... I used thinkpad at school and it was cool when I was a kid, but now I think that trackpoint is as outdated as trackball. Mouse was not a mistake. Actually best thing that ever happened to pc. If you want to use calculator-like controls, fine, use whatever you want to "code" in linux but I can't imagine to use solidworks without a mouse. Also I hate all this mainstream onions community around thinkpads. Really not my type of laptop. Outdated and not brutal enough design, cheap plastic, fragile, onions reddit community.

runs unix stuff flawlessly

>cons
they always, always get hot as fuck
terrible screens
old so you usually have to buy a new battery and change the thermal paste when you get one
can barely run windows
can't upgrade the cpu unless you have a select model or buy a custom mobo from china

I'd say get an x220 if you really want one but don't fall for the memes and get an x60 that "just works" because it will "just work" if librebooted and used solely for coding but doing anything else on it will be impossible and a t420 is just too big and annoying to carry around properly

Only get one if you want a laptop you can personalize and run Linux on that's cheap otherwise if you're actually working a 9-5 that requires a laptop you should get one with all the modern conveniences like a mac meme and buy a meme keyboard to go with it like a happy hacking professional type-S

Thinkpad
Pros:
-cheap
-windows 10
-sound seems loud enough
-intuitive interface

cons:
-low specs
-low quality screen
-made with very cheap plastic
-low battery life

Macbook Air
Pros:
-build quality. Aluminum chassis, nice trackpad, keyboard, and amazing screen.
-fast, not a single loading
-light and durable

Cons:
-expensive
-overheating problems after a long use

If you want an opinion on the aesthetic, Apple is definitely more effay, unless you are looking for that deep web/hacker vibes.

Apple is somehow more garbage. Example... >>15411606 coating everything black is not only a waste but like putting makeup on an ugly broken woman.

Surface Book is the only thing I have ever seen that is tech that deserves to be bought on looks. The specs back up the look at least.

classic ones arent sleek
the new ones are extremely good work laptops
im writing this from a t14, 400 nits display, best keyboard on a laptop, very light, long battery life, 32gb ram etc
only downside its not as powerfull and pretty expensive at 1.7k

you compared macbooks to thinkpads
are you the same guy who said the inside of thinkpads dont look as good as other laptops lmao ?

>> No.15429694

>>15429665
I'm obviously not that guy but in the context of this discussion comparing classic ThinkPads to macbooks would obviously be appropriate as we're discussing effay tech and the classic thinkpads have an aesthetic that sets them apart from the rest the same way a macbook does

I did the same with a 2011 back in 2018. Ran with it until may of this year and bought a used 2018 mbp with 16gb and an i9 chip.

The higher tier newer MacBooks are great in terms of user experience and I feel 10x more productive because when I need it to run it doesn’t get bogged down like my last one would

Problem with minimalist design is that I think theyshould be mass produced and affordable which I'm sure Braun things are not.

I did the same but the battery dies quick as hell even though I swapped it about a year ago and coconut battery says it’s still healthy. I’m wondering if I got scammed with a shitty battery
