the problem is that those are friars, not monks. Proper Monks a more ornate, friars are simple on purpose. Although, I think Christian Clerical Vestments tend to be the focal point of effay aesthetics.

These are more a matter of rites and are associated with priesthood though, and quite a few monastic orders do not get ordinated by principle.
But yeah, if you want to get colourful and somptuous, dig into the catholic rites, especially the spanish and french traditions.

my problem is that I (sort of) know the difference between "cleric,monk,friar" in the Christian traditions but don't know the difference in the Asian ones.So I can't really verify whether a lot of the clothing posted is really "monk core" or not. This is a good example of ornate clergyware but not necessarily monk.

It really depends on the separate traditions and religions.
Hinduism makes a pretty clear difference between the ascetic monks and the worldly priests and priestesses that man the temples, it's probably the easiest one to understand coming from a christian perspective, although the "gurus" throw a wrench in there.
Buddhism is extremely hard to navigate through because there are so many different sects some of which have a very hierarchical clergy (best known case being Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism that creates a ruling class of clergymen in charge of administration and rites) while others go the opposite way and are personnal practice only (see japanese Zen, especially after Ikkyu kicked that ant's nest).
Confucianism has both aspects, sort of. In a lot of schools, the monks/priests have a spiritual and a worldly mission and alternate periods of study and introspection in isolation with periods of teaching and public service.
I don't know enough about Taoism to comment on that.

Chances are, priest in your local parish will be dressed like pic-related. This style of clerical clothing has been mainstream since Vatican 2. The Cassock is making a slow but steady comeback though.
