It's surprisingly consistent house in terms of quality. I've sampled most of it save a few and wouldn't say they have a single bad or sub-par fragrance. AA is the only buy worthy one really but the rest are still worth sampling and even re-sampling.

Layton is the undisputed king of this category. You can go the spicebomb route, like >>15368887 said, but it is nowhere near as fresh as the Boss Bottled/Layton genre. I was going to try some cheapo clones of Layton to see if any of then are good, but I gave up on the idea after smelling 50 invictus clones at the store a while back. Ferragamo Black could be a decent knockoff, but I have had bad experiences with the house.

I have DHE and Gucci Guilty Cologne. Love em both. The Dior is ofc powdery, soapy, and a bit floral. Smells super pleasant and safe. The Gucci is a bit dense but overall fresh and green. Projection is good with average longevity. I wear both fairly often.

I spent the whole week wearing Sartorial and just this afternoon put on some HdP 1725, and holy fuck, they're both so good, I can't decide which is better. While everything is sharper and cleaner in Sartorial and you can pick out a lot more different notes, 1725 is way more seductive, it's like a haze of lavender and other indistinguishable ingredients. I would say, as similar as they are, that Sartorial is a more professional daytime fragrance (although I've also worn it on dates), while 1725 is a more seductive, nighttime frag. Plus, HdP have many different sized bottles (15, 60, 120ml) so getting one shouldn't be that expensive.
I would also say that 1725 projects a lot more, though they might have the same longevity in the end.

Blue Hole

It's the same kind of cologne as Dior Homme Cologne, but for dirt cheap. Some people also like their 9.0 fragrance, so that's probably worth checking out. Personally, it makes me sick though.

I'd describe L'eau Boisee as Guerlain's take on Terre d'Hermes, where the bitter orange is replaced by vibrant lime and the vetiver is closer to the smoothness of Guerlain Vetiver than is the vetiver in TDH. Again, would probably cut at least one of those. You mentioned that you favor Incendo over Encre Noire, so that should be left in. Philosykos is likely to stay. Wearing L'eau Boisee today has made me like it less. I still think it's good for the price, but there's something screechy about it that makes me feel a bit ill. I think I'll wear Herba Fresca tomorrow and see how I feel about that one.

Believe it or not (based on your comments), I think I would wear Jicky quite regularly. It's not so much that it isn't versatile as it is that it's just always weird no matter the situation. Narciso is also one that I personally find easy to wear in the colder months, but there are other reasons for cutting it, as has been discussed. The other two would likely be somewhat situational, as you've suggested. Honestly, I think you could argue that No 19 and Philosykos are too similar and it's a question of bitter or sweet, keep one.

That's a nice way of looking at it. I think Jicky is the only one I can do that with, though. It's a marvel. Probably the only fragrance I've smelled that I'd say has "intellectual content" in the same way that a novel does (it's a simple juxtaposition, but hey, it's a theme)

Retailers who do samples (luckyscent, perfumed court) are generally way overpriced. Decanters on forums/r*ddit/ebay are usually a better deal (but still not the same bang for your buck as bottles, but this depends on your perception of value).

I just recently sampled Ichnusa and have tried Philosykos several times.

I like philosykos more, it feels more like a complete perfume to me, I cant personally get past the coconut but it smells great throughout the day.

Ichnusa is really interesting and green, but seems less wearable to me, it doesnt smell like a perfume, if you know what I mean. Ultimately it dries down to the smell of sun screen or tanning oil on me.

Turmeric, coriander seeds, white pepper, black pepper, rose pepper, ground chili flakes (also know as cayenne pepper) ginger powder, cinnamon, ground coriander, sesame oil, vanilla extract, nutmeg, cardamon , baking soda (or powder, don’t remember how sodium carbonate is called in English), brown sugar and flour. Don’t ask me the proportions. My guess is that if you put less ambery notes from the sugar, vanilla and cardamon and put more coriander seeds and baking soda you would get LDDM.

Narciso Rodriguez for Him sample came today. This is based. I get why a lot of reviewers say its like a throwback to the 80s, the musk definitely is reminiscent of the 80s powerhouses and you get that pissy note at the start. I think this is gonna be my fill for an 80s frag (well maybe Lapidus PH too).

Shit from Lalique can be pretty good. There are some classics like Cool Water that are also cheap, other than that, you should probably try things on your skin to see what you like and go for clones. When you get into niche, look out for Mancera, Montale, Etat Libre D’Orange and Serge Lutens for relatively cheap great niche frags.
