No suit threads? Suit thread. We post suits we find comfortable to handle. Do splits in. Fight mob. Run away like a pussy. Owning it. Getting the women weak. Be more chad than beta or vice-versa. Give me your best suit suggestions.
Also bespoke or nit and is it worth it after all to wear suit and why not?

Colour palette based on your skin tone has to be well chosen. Dont blend in with your suit. Being black literally makes it easiest to go with anything.

The suit has to be comfortable and loose enough for you to move with it. If you feel it its not fitted well. Own the suit or act like it owns you. The suit is to be worn for yourself and enjoyed only by yourself.

What do I need to consider when buying my first suit. Where do I go to get advice/measurements taken

>> No.15355374

>>15355080
You can get measured at literally any department store, but you'll still be buying off the rack, and will have to get it tailored afterwards. I absolutely hate off the rack suits, because the construction quality just doesn't match the hefty pricetag for anything half way decent. Stay the fuck away from J Crew, H&M and the like. If you're trying to spend under $1000 Ralph Lauren is usually okay, Brooks brothers can be okay too, but still not worth the price imo. In order to get quality, you'll have to be breaking the bank regardless, so why not just go bespoke? Now-a-days, you can get good fabric and decent construction for like $1400-$1600 at one of those lower end bespoke shops, there's quite a few of those. Where do you live?

>> No.15355391

>>15355374
Lmao imagine telling what is likely a teenager as they have never had a suit to get a multi thousand dollar bespoke suit. Some of you are such fantasists here. What he should consider is the construction and materials used because if those are of high quality, the suit is likely to be decent. Going by brands is completely stupid because it tells you nothing and most "designer" labels only have high quality in their top line and the other lines are made in China and are often on par with China shit.

This is why there is no real advice here. The board is full of kids. Not super rich kids.

>which watch should i get?
>get this 20k watch!

>looking for some black boots in this style
>get these 1 thousand dollar boots

>need some wool pants
>here, these 900 dollar ones are on sale

OK...

>> No.15355412

>>15355391
Man, idk If you've actually read my post. I've specifically emphasized that fabric and construction should be considered first and foremost, I've specifically advocated against buying off the rack, because in most cases off the rack suits lack either of the aforementioned qualities. What other kind of advice do you want? Yeah, good suits cost a lot of money, what do you want me to do about that? I'm not telling him to go to Huntsman. I just think that in the long run, he'll be a lot better served having spent 1.5K on something that lasts him a good 5 years, at least. I'm not a particularly wealthy person, but I've saved up and gotten a few lower end bespoke suits over the years, and they've held up extremely well. Sure, they're not Saville row quality, but I'm just speaking from experience here, and I think it's a worthwhile investment.

>> No.15355424

>>15355412
I just think he should get a well fitted 100% wool suit for the lowest price he can find. he should obviously avoid polyester and poly blends. other than that it's going to be fine as a 1st suit. It's just that nobody here is going to be dropping close to 2k on a bespoke suit. I don't mean to sound shitty but just be real.

>> No.15355457

Okay, fair point. My issue is, 100% wool suits that are not glued through are hard to find in a store now-a-days (at least in the flyover US). I'm curious what your go-to's are. I wouldn't mind copping one myself.

benjamin sartorial if you're on a budget, you can buy a fully canvassed 100% wool suit, some of them are on sale right now for $400. i think they come from china or hong kong, but they're still excellent quality for that price point, there are very skilled tailors that work from china/hongkong. i have one myself, it is the best you will find for that price point

Original poster here. Y’all have given me more options to consider than the typical fa thread does so thank you. Located in West coast US if that makes any difference and am a soon-to-be college grad. As for colors for a first suit, thinking black is the most universal. How about shoes?

black suit black shoes. navy blue suit camel/hiney brown shoes. oxfords or derbies but never brogues unless its for party entertainment. generally shoes should contrast the suit. so colour palette. chck contrasting colours but teo standard ones are shades of black and shades of brown. lapel width depends on how big your shoulders are. belt and shoes should have same colour as they are both leather material. try to avoid shoes with rubber soles. it should be leather soles.

>> No.15355856

OP here. traditionally navy blue or black suit come with black/brown shoes. belt must have same colour as shoes. socks are for contrast of the whole attire. lapel width depens on hoe wide your shoulders are. remember that please. tie width depends on lapel width. should be same. narrow torso? go for 2 button classic. dont go for a 4 button crossing unless literally ben affleck batman/fit/henry cavill tier.

If people are new to suits or haven't owned one yet, I in some way recommend getting a blazer to do with chinos. It's like a step towards suits and gets you used to wearing those things. Most people feel so out of place in their first suit, especially if they are not wearing it for a wedding or some formal occasion.

A blazer, shirt, chinos and derby boots can look really good imo and it doesn't look out of place if you're simply just going to the store.

suit is not for occasions. change mindset. suit is for yourself. now its a city attire. if you are a fatory worker and you do physical yu can still have a work suit which you change from and back. coworkers be at last asking questions. think of it like this. if you had no cloth at all and the only cloth you were allowed to wear are suits. cheap for daily. expensive for events. thats it pretty much. have fun. it dosnt have be expensive. it should look good on you. it should fit, you shouldnt feel it which means its comfy and remember. you are wearing it for yourself not for others. if you break that rule you will not enjoy suits nor will the people around you whoch the funny part. good luck anon also watch the video link i shared.

The anon that posted below you is totally right.
You have to realize who are you talking to. 1.5k dolars for a "decent" suit? So what is gonna cost you a good one? 10k? This is not Wall Street man, this is real life.
The reality is that if you don't want to spend a lot of money or you are not really into suits but need one, you can buy from Zara or H&M (if you have an average body) and with a bit of tailoring it will look decent. Make sure the pants fit the waist and the blazer fits the shoulders and the rest should be pretty easy and cheap to tailor.
If you want something with more quality and better fabrics, you can look at Suitsupply.

>> No.15362521

>>15361772
I work in suits (law) and absolutely would not recommend getting H&M or Zara suits if you wear them for more than a job interview. The cuts are unflattering, mainly due to absurdly low armholes. Mostly, the suits are too short and lapels grotesquely slim.
The main problem is the fabric though. Linen and wool are okay-ish, but bad. However almost all their suits are polyester or blends and fucking suck. They don‘t drape right, feel stiff and leave you sweating in summer and cold in winter.

>> No.15362555

This. In most situations normies will think "wow, a suit" even for off the rack suits, if the fit is not totally wrong. Keep in mind that most people do not know or care about what makes a high quality suit.
Obviously, you won't impress a menswear enthusiast with it. The only downside that I can see is that you get the impression that suits aren't for if the "cheap" suit feels uncomfortable.

It really depends. Yes, for a job interview in a bank or in law I'd recommend a something better, because you may be expected to wear the suit at work and because they can tell that you bought something cheap.
If you are a teenager and you need to attend a ceremony a H&M suit should do. Same if you go to a job interview where people normally do not wear suits, i.e. the interviewer himself will show up in jeans and a shirt and you dressing in a suit will be seen as formal/overdressed, but not expected everyday in the office.

>just go to H&M bro
>nah don't worry about quality or longevity
>just get whatever is cheap bro
Alternatively do some research, go into lots of shops, ask questions, feel material, talk to tailors, overcome your natural inclination to scrimp and save a few extra shekels for something that will last years and actually look and feel good.

Nothing looks worse than a man in a cheap suit

Yes, but does it make sense for someone who understands nothing about suits to invest 1.5k into one? This shit is like telling someone who just got their driver's license to get a premium brand car.

Then, if he finds out that suits are something for him, does it make sense to invest into 10 cheaply made and ill-fitting H&M suits? It doesn't but at least he didn't blow out a lot of money for a quality product that he rarely uses.

That's the point.
If someone is asking for a first car advice, you won't recommend a Ferrari, right? If someone is asking advice for first watch, you will probably recommend Seiko or Orient, not a Rolex or a Panerai. And if someone comes asking for a suit, first step is probably something affordable, not a one month salary suit.

But it will look bad for someone who really understands tailoring and who really is into suits, which is probably not even 5% of the people. For most of the people, as long as you follow certain size rules and it's not an extremely shiny fabric or some weird colour, it will be fine, don't try to make people spend thousand of dolars in something that won't make the difference for them or for most of the people around them.

Honestly, Covid reduced the situations where you would wear a suit: finance and law is remote work from now on.

That leaves real estate agents and politicians as the last people who wear suits.

This is why, even though I absolutely love suits, I sometimes avoid using them.
Blazer + no tie or tie + no blazer is enough to get too much attention here.

Sorta interesting video, a bit too wordy and too faggoty for my taste (the whole be a man bla bla bla). It could be summed up in two sentences:
1- Dress as you please
2- Suits could see more use.
The whole "are you man enough to wear a suit?" sounds like bullshit or cheap assholes trying to sell me stuff I don't need.

>menswear faggots ruined suits
True. I dare saying it's the Kimono effect.
Autists took over a piece of good fashion and made some autistic rule-sets on it. It caught and became a symbol of formality.
There ware formal suits and informal suits. But today even a really informal suit is seen as formal.
Man, I'd love to rock me either an olive or red suit or those old-style linen/seersucker suits - but they are "too dressy" and It'd be too autistic randomly wearing them on the street.

It's really sad. I wish I could just wear 90s loose ass goofy suits and not get laughed at.
