These arrived yesterday, luckily I guessed the correct size as this is my first pair of Solovairs/Martens and return shipping wasn’t free. If you’re in a similar predicament I recommend a size down from standard sneakers (same size as Chuck Taylors for me).

One question - any tips to stop the tongue from slipping to the side? That’s my only nitpick.

eh. probably nice for maximum longevity but nobody I know actually does this (and most put on too much oil/grease when they do treat them.). plus fit changes slightly with a full resole since they have to take in the upper a little bit to have something to stitch the new sole to, so keeping them resoleable beyond a certain point is kind of a waste imo.

having said that, I've been told that sealing your seams is a good move and that clear nail polish works well.

most people I know NEVER oil their boots, or sharpen their knives, or do any sort of maintenance on their gear. don't be like most people, if you're going to drop $500+ on a pair of boots, spend another $20 to get obenauf oil and LP and actually use them to protect your investment so that you dont have to get a rebuild nearly as soon

also the roughout uppers are fucking great, I don't know how you fire fairies stand the no-tuck policy for your pants, I tuck for days. my boots are way tougher than my pants, I want that shit hitting the brush instead of my hem

thats why you stag em off and make some hotshot capris. no hems so stobs can rip out the bottom rather than catching on a hem and tripping you. I don't know about a no-tuck policy, ppl just think it looks baggerish. you can over polish, which you certainly did on that left boot. the wax makes the leather harder and more brittle.

not defending doc martens leather, which is pretty shit leather. they'll do that to shoes that have been optimally cared for too, and yours probably would've done that even if you hadn't waxed them too much. gotta strip that old wax off, condition them, and then put on a light fresh coat on from time to time.

How are you supposed to wear pants with boots?
Go with tapered fit so they can't go over the top edge of the boot or tuck them in? I really dislike when they just cover top part of the boot.

I bought a pair of paramemes from the uk a while back, corona wasn't so big when I got them so it took a month. When I got them they were mixed sizes, so I sent them back, that took a month. Then the seller sent them back to me, by this point corona was pretty bad and it ended up taking a little over two months to get back. I thought I was scammed and was about to bitch out the seller, but I would recommend being patient just in case it really was sent. Be prepared to throw a bitch fit though.
