These arrived yesterday, luckily I guessed the correct size as this is my first pair of Solovairs/Martens and return shipping wasn’t free. If you’re in a similar predicament I recommend a size down from standard sneakers (same size as Chuck Taylors for me).

One question - any tips to stop the tongue from slipping to the side? That’s my only nitpick.

>>15353677
eh. probably nice for maximum longevity but nobody I know actually does this (and most put on too much oil/grease when they do treat them.). plus fit changes slightly with a full resole since they have to take in the upper a little bit to have something to stitch the new sole to, so keeping them resoleable beyond a certain point is kind of a waste imo.

having said that, I've been told that sealing your seams is a good move and that clear nail polish works well.

>> No.15355166

>>15355120
dont seal the seams if you are going to be near fire, since the polish will catch and fuck up your boot
seal the seams if you are going to be near water
most people I know NEVER oil their boots, or sharpen their knives, or do any sort of maintenance on their gear. don't be like most people, if you're going to drop $500+ on a pair of boots, spend another $20 to get obenauf oil and LP and actually use them to protect your investment so that you dont have to get a rebuild nearly as soon

also the roughout uppers are fucking great, I don't know how you fire fairies stand the no-tuck policy for your pants, I tuck for days. my boots are way tougher than my pants, I want that shit hitting the brush instead of my hem

>> No.15355217

>>15355166
some cleaning and treatment is reasonable, but I'm pretty sure too-frequent treatment can make the leather softer than you really want. granted, I don't know what the relevant frequency is. I usually do mine about 2-3x/year.

>I don't know how you fire fairies stand the no-tuck policy for your pants
>hem
thats why you stag em off and make some hotshot capris. no hems so stobs can rip out the bottom rather than catching on a hem and tripping you. I don't know about a no-tuck policy, ppl just think it looks baggerish. "It's not about looking good, but it is" and this is after all a fashion board. it may also be relevant that most of us just roll with cache nomex rather than buying our own.
Then again, the Utah/Arizona tall boots/tucked pants thing comes in for a lot of mockery, but I've also heard it's just the thing for keeping the teddybear cholla out.

>dont seal the seams if you are going to be near fire, since the polish will catch and fuck up your boot
I suppose this is a theoretical possibility, but I've been standing in and around fires in nail-polish-seam-sealed boots for a couple seasons now and I can't say I've ever had it happen.

lmao fucking subhumans
I cant stand having my pants untucked. way too many stumpholes and slash piles that are going to ride up your leg, and I hate the feeling of duff tickling my ankle
when its pissing out it's better to blouse them so your socks dont get wet, but even then you're still going to get soaked after a bit

hey man you too can get OT, H, and helicopter commutes, all you gotta do is apply
(also I've only ever heard the dress uniform called a pickle suit, and the only times I've known ops goons to wear them were under protest and at academy)

idk, I've gotten saw chips in my boots but that's about the worst I've ever had it with regular 10" boots and cutoff nomex, and I was finding saw chips in my underwear after that shift.

looks like nicks got teton tan back in stock, might have to blow a boot stipend on a new pair. it looks great worn-in, they say it's stiffer than their other tans, and ya need a backup pair for when your main ones are getting resoled...right....

you can over polish, which you certainly did on that left boot. the wax makes the leather harder and more brittle.

not defending doc martens leather, which is pretty shit leather. they'll do that to shoes that have been optimally cared for too, and yours probably would've done that even if you hadn't waxed them too much. gotta strip that old wax off, condition them, and then put on a light fresh coat on from time to time.
