Vintage lady's movements are really quite impressive in that way - same with ultrathin movements. I have an old watch lying around that's about the size of a fingernail, I'll have to pop it open some day and have a look. I've got a nice looking penis quartz, but I kind of want to do either a crystal swap or a full case swap.

A crystal swap seems pretty simple, but these days the chinks are putting out some nice cases, which might be a nice upgrade from the current one which is a bit haggard and could do with being a bit more contemporary design wise. Are there any decent places I can find schematics diagrams for stuff like the NH35 to see if the distances line up with my old quartz model? Then I could just buy a case that can fit my module.

thanks. I was afraid the color would suck but it’s actually nice and uniform. Some bare steel inbetween the links but it’s only visible if you bend it specifically looking for it and even then barely. Only flaw is a super small purple spot towards the bottom of the pic, but it’s so small who cares.

I have one that was running really bad (amplitude looked like max 45 deg, beat was like 30% too high) but got it to something like 200 deg and -20s/d just by cleaning and oiling, dial down. However the problem resurfaces partly in certain positions, mostly crown down. Hairspring looks ok and level. Are my balance pivots fucked or can there be other reasons?

Can't say I'm surprised. Part of the entire point of the co-axial is that it doesn't need lubrication, but I guess that requires the sort of fine adjustment that you can't produce in the sort of numbers Omega puts out. Using gold for the escape wheel helps if I'm not mistaken.

the watch important to me because when he died he was more or less in a coma constantly and we didnt get to have a real last talk with him...a regret of mine, we were all too busy. Interesting fact about George Daniels and my family's links to his family. Can't be 100% sure of the accuracy because it's just been titbits of information I've been told over the years
George's family wasn't particularly well off during the War, so quite often they'd go round to my grandad's family's house to eat.
Even many many years later they were still friends and would regularly write to each other. My dad even met him when he was 12

It certainly was. I don't know why my cousin even got it, I doubt he even appreciates it. Then again, maybe I'm just being butthurt about it. He's actually a cool guy and works on a railroad, but when I asked him about it he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. If you're here, here's a pic.
The pins are holding the caseback/strap in place, also the buttons are part of the caseback, its rubber not plastic.
This means to swap the battery you have to remove the entire assembly, cheaper to make but probably caused too many issues.

The hands in black are a mess, they should either be blue or metal to match one of the motifs. If that outer ring was an actual chapter ring instead of adding an extra 5mm onto the watch for no good reason, it might look nice. As is, it's got the same problem any of those clashing dials have, which is that they make the inside look fucking tiny and turn the whole watch into a porthole.

Not really. Quartz is basically "buy digital, or buy vintage".

The newer quartz stuff is all low quality movements or dumb gimmicks like solar/radio/gps to make up for low quality quartz.

Buy an old Twin quartz in decent shape, service it yourself, and you're done. Otherwise the only real option is going up a lot of price brackets to get a spring drive.

Personally, I can't even stand power meters on watch faces. Solar ruins dials, you can't do anything interesting with a solar dial, and radio/GPS adds a bunch of nerd shit to the front of your watch with little windy indicators that nobody wants or needs.

For digital? Absolutely, radio solar is great. For analog? No.

You do realise that the high end quartz movements of the 70s are as difficult to service as comparative mechanical movements? Certainly not something for an amateur to attempt where spares are nonexistent and some aspects of the movement are incredibly intricate.

Circuits are the easy part. Coil works? Keep it. Coil doesn't work? Toss it. How do you find out if your coil works? a 2 dollar multi-meter, or just connect a battery and see if shit starts moving. How do you know if the rest of the electronics work? You look for corrosion, if you find some, you swap out the board or try and fix it.

And then the rest of the watch is just a basic drive train that's effectively just a simplified auto without any of the worry of being a dumbass and letting your mainspring go flying off across the room.

Here's the seconds jumper of a Seiko King Quartz, it's virtually microscopic, good luck replacing it when it flies off in to your carpet.
Your points on the electronic side are fairly true but your suggestions to simply swap them out are a little naive considering that the parts are very difficult to source, pretty much impossible if you want NOS.
