I've seen it on like 5 different instagram posts and didnt know if it was being shilled. I'll never afford it, but just thought it would be worth talking about since I'm not aware of any other watch that does the hours of the day indicator correctly.
maybe I'm just interested because I'm sick of all those GMTs with 24 hr hands that have a "day" and "night" function that doesn't necessarily relate to the actual day and night
I though so but then the tech seemed really interesting.
this, to me, has been the most interesting release. except for maybe whatever moser and mb&f are collaborating on

>>15285215
>>15285216
basically I agree. if this was a complication from JLC I'd be all over it. but from a microbrand, and a new one at that, I'm hesitant. I really really like the idea though.
I'm not a watchmaker but I feel if it was priced at half what it was now then it would see some serious traction. but now it'll probably die out. oh well, we'll see a JLC daylight indicator in 5 years anyways, so I'm not too upsef.

holy fuck I just posted this but after doing so I don't understand the indices on the calendar function.
Dec-March has 3 ticks between it. is the first tick January, then feb, but does that make the third one march? or is the first tick december, the last feb, and the lettering march?
this is quite unclear,

that being said, if you want to disrupt an industry you do it with a totally new complication like this. I'm really eager to see what happens with this, maybe they'll get bought out by a big group for a steal.
if they had at least a tiny name like helios then it would be a different story, but this is pretty cool regardless. but $110k usd for a first release? absurd

You know that you have to send it to their watchmaker to set it for your location manually and that it's worthless when the time changes, right? It doesn't have a perpetual calendar and it doesn't know when exactly it's supposed to move the sunrise/sunset on which dates.

i dont think its a tick between the 3 notches but a slow progression, you can see that the short hand is just before the middle tick; the middle tick just marks the halfway point between 3 month blocks

so right now its the 22nd of April. May would be the halfway point.

each small section = 2 months

I mean it's a retarded half-baked complication. Krayon Everywhere actually does what you people think Anywhere does, and that one's $600k.

And neither of them have an annual or perpetual calendar, both just have simple calendars that you have to adjust each month.

Retarded watches for retards. Now can we get back to Rolex.

do you really have a gold bracelet that you're going to put on the watch? if that's the case, you need to pay more attention to the dimensions of the bracelet, like 18mm, 20mm, or even stranger dimensions like 19mm or 21mm. because this is a critical dimension for a watch.

Say no more, Max Bill, handwind version for about 400-500, and the auto for the double

Both of them have reliable movements, and are perfect for small wrists (around 34mm), and as you can see, the design is one of the best, looks modern but it was designed many decades ago.

For thin wrists you shouldn't go for over 40mm watches unless they are divers, sport watches or pilot watches.Going for oversized watches is tasteless, specially if you want something minimalist.

I once went into the water as a kid and saw a huge eyeball looking thing with tentacles looking back at me.

It gave me thalassophobia for years, until I realised it was probably just an octopus, and my imagination and the light refraction in the water was making it look like an eyeball.

Man is naturally attracted and simultaneously repelled by the sea. Attraction stems from discovery of the unknown, repulsion stems from our imagination working overtime to make sense of that unknown. Hence all the wild sailor stories, Moby Dick, etc. The conclusion is we need to bite the bullet and face our fears eventually to grow as a person.

I just watched a rebroadcast of a program about a Japanese watchmaker on NHK World.
Masahiro Kikuno is an independant watchmaker who creates unique timepieces by hand with no computer aided machining. for Baselworld 2015, he created a complication for displaying an old form of Japanese timekeeping in which the length of the hours lengthen or shorten according to the axial tilt of the earth in relation to the sun in a given city.

nope, just watch out for the fact that women's watches are very often quartz or will have jewels (or fake jewels) somewhere visible. or they'll have a worse/cheaper movement.
if none of these are the case then no, as long as it looks fine it might as well be unisex.

Fuck me this shit's expensive. How do you justify paying thousands for a single watch?

>> No.15287827

>>15287803
Good question, the answer is linked to calculating the value of a watch, something that's multifaceted. They can either hold personal value (bought during big personal events in one's life, inherited by parents etc), they can be required in certain work placements (upper management, law, etc) , or they can attain great resale value so some people see them as investments (the old Seiko Alpinist, Tudor Black Bay, etc, doubling in price in a decade)

Personally, I would never justify spending too much on a watch, unless I know I'm getting something out of it. Some people take loans just to buy a watch while working at macdonalds, I would never do that for example.

A watch doesn't have to cost a lot to hold value. The value is appraised and is dependent entirely on you. A 20 dollar Casio can hold as much value as a 150k dollar A. Lange & Sohne.

People who pay thousands for watches are literal retards. There's nothing to justify it.

You are no better than a woman paying for jewellery if you care about the fucking finishing work on an object designed to be a tool.

The only justification for paying more for a watch is higher specs. But the vast majority of "high end" watches are automatic, which is about as low spec as you can get, being outdated tech that's about a century old, and was replaced 50 years ago by something far superior in every aspect. Owning an auto makes you the kind of retard who falls for advertising.

Manual transmissions are more efficient for most forms of driving, and offer possibilities autos don't have.

Automatic watches are more complex, meaning they're more likely to break, far less accurate, which means you have to constantly adjust them, and have to be kept in a dumb rotating box so you don't lose an hour overnight.

>>15287872
I get that you're a trust fund baby who has never had to work for anything in his life, so you have no concept of the value of money, but only brainlets spend thousands on a fucking watch. I don't care if you've got billions, aren't you ashamed that you're giving it away to con artists?

What do you mean? You're not getting scammed, you're participating in capitalism. If you don't buy products to denote your worth to society, you might as well just stay poor and live in a straw hut.

This is what second generation wealth thinks. You're no better than the poorfags buying a fucking 60 inch screen TV on credit, dude.

I'm not telling you to give away your money, I'm telling you to treat it with some basic level of intelligence. Again, it doesn't matter that you have enough. What matters is that you're just giving it away, would you give 500 bucks to a hobo so he can buy drugs? So why would you give 50 grand to a watch company so they can produce dogshit?

>Reminds me of the chicks in Japan who become cabaret club hostesses to make more money so they can give it to their favorite host.
That's how everything works in capitalism though? Every common has been privatized and repackaged and resold to you at a hefty markup because you were too stupid not to complain. For example public parks or city squares have been replaced with private gyms or shopping malls. Even public streets are built on purpose so that you can't loiter (there are anti-sitting benches that are uncomfortable enough so that you don't stay on them more than a few minutes) so that you can be funneled through at just the right pace to view the shopping windows, and enter a store to rest and buy things. Your private communications are being stolen from you and resold. Your literal love life and communication with your prospective or actual spouse can't be direct anymore, it has to go through a private intermediary (dating apps/chat apps/listening devices). Your sex life is filtered through the lens of porn hyperconsumption, your wife never learned about it with you, she already knew "how to do it" from what her masters told her sex was like.

This is perfectly normal.

40mm would be a little too small for my wrist (7,5in / 19cm), as I like my new watch to be a bit bigger. Most of my other watches are around 40-42mm so I'd like to go for 42-44mm. So picrelated are my favourites.

I really like the Hulk. It'd be perfect for summer, though I've got the concern that people will spot it as a fake Rolex, because the green is pretty iconic. I personally really don't care about brands, but I wouldn't feel perfectly fine wearing it. The black version is nice too, but standard and a bit boring.

I like the Black/orange mix very much. But I think 44-46mm are a bit too big. Plus it has no sapphire glas, just hardlex.

I mean, from a practical standpoint, how often do you use a calculator?
having the time at-a-glance on your wrist rather than fishing your phone out of your pocket, including having to stand up if seated, is useful. do you need access to a simple calculator moment-to- moment enough times a day that pulling out your phone would be tedious?
I'm being rhetorical.
we both know the answer is no.

the F108 is basically the F91 but bigger and more robust looking
the AE1200/1300 are both useful and distinctive with that geek aesthetic but still look pretty good normally
AQ230s are insanely retro but still good looking and you get analog hands
or just get a fucking gshock square

no problem
I love casio watches but that calculator watch is seriously a mistake. I know a couple guys who get them and then inevitably the kitsch wears off and you're stuck with a watch that looks really stupid most of the time, it's basically a gag watch. then the regret sets in
