where did it go wrong

>> No.15263034

>>15262920

SS2010 is where it started to go wrong,

after aw2009 it's obvious to me that he felt burnt out and disillusioned with fashion and the fashion system. because SS2010 was striped back with the ethos of "less but better", then aw2010 he publishes "the mentality of reverse running" on the inside of all his clothes which lays out exactly how discontent he is with the fashion system. this can be seen as jun's own "less but better" philosophy so it's a clear continuity from the previous season

from there his menswear just totally regressed to basically being glorified fashion merchandise with very little design to it, JAMC, can, talking heads, david bowie, who else made appearances between 2011 and 2015? underman as well was just a throwback to his childhood, and honestly looked like a Uniqlo collab more than an undercover collection.

This makes sense though he was doing a uniqlo collab during these years and started doing gyakusou with nike around this time so it's not really surprising that while he was upset with paris fashion he wouldn't branch out elsewhere . The womenswear doesn't seem to have suffered as much to me especially once jun got past his retrospective in ss2016, AW2016 boremans collection was good but, for the mens that momentum didn't really carry and jun just kept doing shitty pop culture references and all over prints, i mean the kubrick collection was just god awful.

for menswear it took until the nosferatu and throne of blood collections that jun finally hit on interesting cultural references again and interpreted them in interesting ways. i am optimistic about undercover again but, the one thing that always bothers me is while the design is usually great bu the fabrics always feel cheap and shitty. thats fine when you're doing punk and rock n roll references ala "t" ss2006 but, when you're trying to do like luxe sport knits like aw2007 and aw2009, or leather jackets (aw2009,aw2016, aw2020) you have to use better materials

there might be a guide laying around for julius but, what i got passed onto me by the older /fa/ trips who loved julius was the first three yeas of julius(03-05) have the best quality and most interesting treatments of leather however, the cuts are really all over the place, most of it is really dated, beyond that the golden age of the bran seems to be 2009-2012(+ fw2013) wouldn't bother with anything outside of that range.

look at MA julius for the leathers as well, there was this one absolutely insane one from 2015 (of course i can't find photos anymore) that was straight out of a H R Giger painting, one of the craziest leather jackets i've ever seen had a chance to try it on when i was in la in 2016 just blew my mind

yeah, I'm looking at early stuff more out of curiosity and maybe for a unique conversation piece rather than trying to build a cohesive fit out of all pieces from then. I remember a lot of discussion back when I first came onto this board (2013-2014), but I was far too poor to do anything other than thrifted palewave shit. now, I'm finding a lot of nostalgia in that stylezeitgeist/Shui Tsang wannabe aesthetic from back then, plus I'm finally in a financial position to make it possible. mostly I think it's a perfect fit for my otherwise difficult bodytype (6'1, 120 lbs), which otherwise makes other styles pretty difficult. plus I live in a cold climate, so all the leather and layering is pretty much perfect
