I never had an interest for fragrances especially though I wasn't unaware thanks to my father bringing samples every so often (he was a fraghead before anyone else), I just love smells in general. I had one bottle I bought 8 or 7 years ago and never digged deeper as I was always feeling like I was wasting my time testing stuff at Sephoras, it took me until I smelled ambre sultan to truly get into fragrances. I still rather smell things in their natural settings but now i also truly appreciate the craftsmanship behind perfumes

Same here, I was never into perfumes really though I've always said that my nose is my most developed sensory organ and I LOVE smelling things.
My mom is also pretty into perfumes so she used to show me her perfumes. When I got into fragrances I found out that her signature scent when I was growing up was Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel and my grandpa's signature since the 80s until his death was vintage Kouros

Back when I did Muay Thai, my coach was a fraghead and he always used to tell me about frags. He’d always have a bottle of something, I think it was Egoiste, in his locker that he’d spray himself down with after class. Never really thought much about it at the time.

I wound up going to Vegas with a good buddy of mine, we were in the forum shops in Caesars and they had a Burberry store my friend wanted to look in. Apparently, they’d just launched a new fragrance and the sales lady wanted us to test it. I don’t remember which it was offhand, might’ve been Brit Rythm, but I’m not 100% sure. Anyway, I wound up liking it, and when I got home after the trip, I decided to ask my Muay Thai coach for some frag advice. We ended up going to a Sephora or some similar store, and I tried a bunch of stuff. Ended up copping I think it was one of the Bulgari tea frags. Went through a few more designer frags, and after a while I decided I wanted to get myself something really nice to wear on dates and special occasions. Did my research, and wound up copping Creed MI. Then Joob. Then Royal Water. Eventually copped Roja Enigma on one of my Amsterdam trips. That was the hook. There was no coming back from that. I’m here for life.

>> No.15243813

>>15243784
Guess it really depends. I’ve had long term relationships in the past. I even had one of my exes who was basically a virgin when we met, so I got to “train” her from the ground up, she actually got pretty good at sucking dick eventually (you’re welcome to whoever she’s fucking now).

Truth is, the first time I ever saw a hooker was in a brothel in Nevada (actually the same trip I talked about in >>15243771, so I guess that was a pretty influential trip), and I really just did it as a lark. The girl talked me into staying for 4 hours, she was really hot, the sex was amazing, and she was actually very interesting to talk to. The whole experience was very intriguing. I told a buddy about what had happened, and he suggested I go to Amsterdam. That’s where I really got into it. I met a few ladies that trip that I wound up going back to see a bunch of times. As soon as I got home, I wanted to go again, so I did just a few months later. That time, I decided to get a booking with a high-end escort too. That was one of the most amazing nights of my life up until that point. I was absolutely hooked.

So I guess for me, escorts have a very happy association. They remind me of good times. It’s not something I take too seriously, it’s not something I feel like I need to do, I just enjoy it. I see it like getting a massage or going out for a nice dinner. It’s just a fun little indulgence. Just the way I see it, personally. Everyone has different ways of looking at things, and we all gotta do what’s right for us.

Picked this up. Had a sample and I absolutely loved the scent. It's not one that chicks would love I guess, cause it's pretty sweet vanilla kinda. But I love the smell. Might just use it as a scent for the bed or just everyday nothing special type thing.

Let me take you on a journey, friend. You’re on vacation in San Francisco, you return to your hotel but have forgotten your room number. You walk into the room of another guest by mistake. Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of sweaty men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant martini glass covered with sequins. YMCA is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a disco ball hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. John Waters is sitting on a chair in the corner sipping a cosmopolitan.

Ultra Male is gayer than that room.

Not really when you consider the price, most of their range is just nice but really just average-to-above average at best and nowhere near worth the prices they ask. Although there's some good natural smelling ingredients in a few of them like Desert Rosewood and Southern Bloom they're still really just overpriced designer fragrances in a similar vein to PdM only less interesting. Worth sampling from somewhere cheap like Jovoy but only PRM has so far been near good enough to buy.

I never really had any interest or connection to scent until later in life than most people. No-one either friends or family I knew growing up wore them apart from the odd person at school wearing Joop or going crazy on Lynx.

Wasn't until I was at university in 2011 that I took any interest when one of my housemates came back a weekend at home with about six bottles his dad picked up from a duty-free while abroad on business. Although he wore frags for nights out he didn't need that many so left them in the sitting room for everyone to help themselves for nights out, house parties and the weekly poker game we held in our kitchen. Didn't think much of most of them (Armani Code, 1 Million and can't remember the other three) but I tried The One EDT and couldn't get enough of it. Used most of the bottle up that year and brought a new one the following year.

Few years later while I had a job and some disposable income after uni I started to try others and built up a small rotation that I wore most days rather than just for going out. I remember wearing Versace PH and Dunhill Icon a lot then just after the latter came out. Then in 2015 I started to work in casinos professionally rather than just dealing private poker games as a side job and had a lot more disposable income from the tips so started to really get into collecting frags using that to fund it. Expanded into mainstream niche after buying Noir de Noir and Oud Minerale then discovered YT reviewers and Fragantica etc and got more into fragrance the following years.

I think my job's probably played a big role in my interest in fragrance in that working in a usually evening/nighttime venue it's socially acceptable to wear all but the loudest and most offensive fragrances. I think you can appreciate them more when you can wear ones you like for more often than just when you go out or at the weekend.

I commented already the last time you posted, pretty good choices for someone who has never worn fragrances. Give it some full day wears, try to observe what do you like about them, what notes from fragrantica you can pick up (especially the notes prominence voting system to the right to the pyramid is useful for that), how do they change over time on your skin and how do they make you feel. It might be hard in the beginning but if you'll put some minimal conscious effort into that we'll be able to suggest other stuff just down your alley building on your feedback. What will happen is that you gonna like some of these way more than others. If that's the case don't jump into a full bottle yet but rather save something in your sample, try to finish all other samples and revisit your favorites at the end. 1ml should be enough for 3 generous full day wears. Where are you based? Maybe we know some better sampling services in your country to help you out.

>> No.15245239

ayo, I've started wearing fragrances about a year ago and have been literally going with a single one: Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver. I really like it and get compliments on it every now and then but especially feel like it fits my personality and works in almost any setting. I like how it's fresh and lively but with a bit of substance behind.
Recently bought my second fragrance, Valentino Uomo's Born in Roma which is definitely more for sweet sunny days. I like the fruity-sweet notes on that, but after a while it gets surprisingly spicy. Like that one too, bought it after trying and getting it recommended.
I am now looking for something a bit more masculine, maybe more for evenings, but something that doesn't hit you over the head with leather, tobacco and musk. Not saying they can't be in there, but they shouldn't be the only thing in there, a bit of freshness or sweetness would be nice. I'm 23 not 56 and I feel like many of the more masculine scents would smell good on a daddy type in his mid fifties which I am not.
Recommendations?

Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood in particular would be very easily too pull off by a well dressed 23 yo guy. I'd suggest you too look into Amouage Reflection, Silver Mountain Water (or better Xerjoff Mefisto Gentiluomo), Chanel Allure Edition Blanche, too. They're safe, fresh but have more substance than Grey Vetiver.

If you don't mind more prominent white flowers (jasmine + neroli) then you might like Bright Neroli. It's not super close to 4711 but definitely has similar vibe. If you really want something close to the classical Eau de Cologne that smells natural and lasts longer then try Guerlain Le Frenchy (but with more stress put on green aspects). It is 10/10 but you're looking to pay £200+ for a bottle. This is though something that you'll observe generally. Citruses are unstable and vanish pretty quickly. Hence you must pick 2 of:
>smelling close to 4711
>last long
>is cheap
Personally I'd just accept that stuff EdCs can't last very long. There's some beauty to it, you take a hot shower and splash literately your 4711 over your body to feel walking like million doll by the time you'll dry your hair the scent is gone an you can apply a proper fragrance without any trail.

Testing Arte Profumi Fumoir from my Jovoy haul. For me it's the reference Russian Leather with emphasis on birch tar. Extremely smoky and realistic, it almost hurt your eyes to smell it. You feel just like near to some birch tar pit near to a tannery in a remote Siberian village over winter. Unwearable on its own the same way City on Fire/T-rex is unwearable but not funky unlike these two - just austere. For this reason I think it will layer extremely well with some brighter fragrance, something citrus heavy or bergamot etc. I tried one spray of it with two sprays of Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 on top of it and the result is gorgeous. It adds a lot of depth to it.

I have this rule that I'm not gonna buy a bottle if I didn't go through at least 5ml. Learned this hard way to be the optimal threshold. 2ml (so about 4-6 generous wears) is not enough for me and after finishing it you're still a bit emotional about it and on the honey moon with a fragrance so to speak. Got my Mellifluence order from Etsy. First of all presentation is gorgeous for an indie attar maker. Levels above cheap bottles and card boxes from Abdul Karim Al Faransi who is a quite established house. He also attached 2 free samples of his rose attar and frankincense. Which is really nice as my order was just above 20 pounds. Getting to the stuff I got, there's not that much to talk about because I basically ordered absolutes and CO2s of some natural ingredients to learn how do they smell in isolation. They smell, well, natural lol. But it's funny to finally smell stuff like labdanum, opoponax or frankincense absolutes on their own, not composed with hundred other notes in a perfume. I've actually learned a lot and I'm surprised how often did I smell labdanum in fragrances without realizing it or what part of Interlude was actually opoponax. Very educating. Also since the quality is there and the absolutes are all natural you actually can observe how do they evolve and appreciate complexity. And damn, I feel like using with synthethics where you don't have all nuances of hundred different natural ingredients making an essential oil and where you know what to expect from synthetics is like playing on easy mode. Good stuff overall, I can defo recommend buying from Mellifluence.

I don't use soap (only shampoo for hair) and girls literally fall asleep in my armpits and sniff my crotch when blowing me and stuff (yes normal girls). Jovoy samples arrived today with two bonus ones they chucked in. Based on first impressions so largely on paper strips far :

>FdB - New York Intense
Rich, dark resinous incense with spices and woods. Liking it on paper so far, but too hot to wear something like it today. 8.5/10

>HdP - 1899
Reminds me of a strange mix of the original Spicebomb and Sartorial. Fairly addictive to keep sniffing the strip. 7.5/10

>Jeroboam - Vespero
Smells like a dark leathery take Bond No.9 The Scent of Peace but with a more 80s masculine feel. 7/10

>Berry - Cathédrale en Rouen
CdG Avignon but more with a smoother, more realistic church incense feel. Smells like a medieval church. 7.5/10.

>The Different Company - Une Nuit Magnétique
Fruity freshie with blueberry opening that reminds me of Bleeker Street without the violet. Get the impression it won't have great longevity but smells nice. 8/10

>Carner Barcelona - Ambar Del Sur
Like a lighter, airy version of TF Amber Absolute with a bit of myrrh in there too. To me absolutely HOOOOHHHHH-tier, probably sample again and buy it if I still like it as much. 10/10

>Goldfield & Banks - Blue Cypress
Nice fresh natural woody smell but nowhere near worth the price. Reminds be a bit of AdP Profumo for some reason. 6.5/10

>The Different Company Santo Incienso Sillage Sacré
Light smooth natural smelling woods and a delicate incense. Woody notes smell very high quality. Quite soft projection but a really enjoyable light woody scent, reminds me a bit of L'Artisan Timbuktu without the fruity opening but with a more enjoyable dry down so far. SOTD for today. 8/10

Bonus ones

>Jeroboam - Gozo
Light fruity fresh with a hint of incense or dried wood. Looks promising so far, very little on it though as it's a new release. 6.5/10

>Jeroboam - Ligno
Awful to my nose, reminds me of mouldy brie with some sour patchouli. 3/10
